Don't get me wrong I felt Kovalev looked good last night against a very good prospect in his own right and a prospect I feel deserves more credit than he received.
That Cedric Agnew is a good little fighter. I don't think I've ever been that impressed with a guy before who actually lost every round :lol1:
Reminded me a bit of Winky with the high guard & that counter jab.
I just can't help but feel Stevenson is all kinds of wrong for Kovalev. He didn't have the volume he usually has & that will decline further against a guy with movement, feints & the animalistic power Stevenson possesses.
I feel Kovalev gets a bit frustrated when he gets hit at times.
He moves well but hes a bit off balance & clumsy on his feet at times. Agnew turned him a few times & his feet didn't react.
I think he struggles with lateral movement.
He was overreaching last night at times & off balance & tbh Agnew wasn't really showing a lot of movement. He was coming in, in straight lines & he had zero head movement.
I have no preference to who wins I just want to see these two beasts go at it but I do think Superman beats K.Ovalev by K.O/TKO inside 7
I have to say I am not sure he beats even a 49yr old B-Hop either
I feel B-Hop could well turn that into his slow paced fight & frustrate him to a UD/SD
He is a savage I just think both guys are a bit wrong for him, especially a fresh, fast mobile southpaw banger like Stevenson.
Kovalev's is just as bad, same guy that KTFO of Stevenson nearly did the same to Kovalev. Kovalev has also been KO'd in the AM's and has still shown he does not like to get hit.
Kovalev fights soft stationary guys with no movement or power for a reason, Agnew, Cleverly, Sillakh, Campillo etc. if you go back and watch their fights you'll see every single one of them allowing Kovalev to simply tee off on them while they stand there, it's no coincidence.
A guy like Stevenson loves to counter, has great lateral movement, great power as well, all wrong for Kovalev.
What about that great chin?
Stevenson can't take damage. He is stronger than anyone that he has faced but he won't be against Kovalev. He'd land some shots but once Kovalev returns fire, it's a wrap, Stevenson is hitting the canvas and if he does get up, he will be in full retreat mode for there on out.
Very good assessment,,, well put,, and its probably exactly what would happened if they fought

Some of you people are really grasping at straws here.
:lol1:
Nope. Just not as high on Kov as some of you but power punchers are easy to fall in love with and very easily it happens on NSB.
BHop is the man at LHW. Kov is maybe 3-4 best but he is good
LHW division has become deep and I like it
Good points by Dan Cov but i gotta disagree... I think kovolev finds adonis' chin before adonis finds his
Dont let adonis' movement vs cloud fool you,,, cloud sucks big time and is the worst tv fighter there is IMO... Kovalev should be able to track down adonis in a few rounds and ice him..... Adonis knows this and that is why we arent going to see this fight

I think he does too. Wanna see it too but I'm in no rush cause the Kov of last night loses. I would love to see him fight some of the better comp first. Sold of Kovs power but not his skill yet
:lol1:
I don't.....
I don't. Kovalev is the better fighter. His win last night, was similar to GGG's win over Curtis Steveson. Their opponents wanted to survive, not engage. Kovalev showed intangibles last night. He's a smart fighter with a high work rate. Adonis is 36 and a power dummy. He loses!
I agree. I think Kovalev is probably the better fighter tbh, but there's definitely room to land the southpaw straight left on Kovalev as he comes forward. I thought it before but the Agnew fight confirmed it for me. I also didn't like how Kovalev back up straight back off balance. I feel his rhythm can be disrupted as well if someone can land counters and move away laterally, though that's easier said than done because Kovalev has such heavy hands it would be hard to stay calm under fire from him
Such a great fight though, jf it doesn't happen then shame on boxing!

He might. Which is why it's so ridiculous that he's ducking Kovalev to begin with. Does he really have that little confidence in himself?
Oh, it's a duck beyond all doubt, but I think it's less the confidence and more the clock. He's called out B-Hop (who has history in Montreal, and is more beatable by Adonis than by Kovo**) and Froch (who would be insane to get in the ring with either Kovo or Adonis), and Pascal and Bute are floating around. If Adonis does get KOed by Kovalev it throws all of that money up in the air and the guy is 36. Montreal / Quebec has it's own promoters / managers who still seem to be able to straddle HBO and Sho better than a lot of other outfits.
I think the trash talking will continue, and Adonis will pick up some of the above, and then the Kovalev fight will happen. Unless management, promoters, and lawyers actually make it impossible for the fight to happen. Which would be sad.
** I actually think Kovalev runs a risk of being matadored to death in one of the most awful fights to watch ever by B-Hop. I think it's more likely that Kovalev will catch up with the old guy, but I just think Adonis would handle that fight better.
Not sure about the Stevenson stance. Can't change Stevenson's chin. He'd have to box borderline perfect against Kovalev despite the flaws mentioned. Great post, Dan.

If kovalev can avoid the early rounds of getting caught by stevenson's pull counter left jab while in that process systematically break him down then I can see him winning. I'm just wondering how kovalev would respond if he gets caught by stevenson's jab because it's viscous.
I'm fairly confident Kovalev would beat Hopkins. Mainly because clinching and fouling isn't going to stop Kovalev from landing, and I'm not sure what offense Hopkins can offer to keep Kovalev away. I wouldn't expect him to handle someone that dangerous anymore.

Honestly, the only thing I would be sure of going into Stevenson/Kovalev is that somebody is getting knocked out. Both guys would land big, big shots, and one of them would go down from it.
I too think stevenson will give kovalev a problem and probably beat him by close decision
I think Sevenson would probably win if they meet in the next 18 months or so, though it wouldn't be a sure bet, and I really don't think it would be a decision. Adonis is chinny enough, and Kovalev is there to be hit with that left enough, that I can't see it ending in anything other than a KO.
Kovalev has never been a polished technical fighter. He is essentially a slugger, and, like many sluggers, he is vulnerable to counters. I'm less sure than you are, however, that the style clash works in Stevenson's favour. I strongly suspect Stevenson of being chinny and he doesn't employ the tight high-gaurd defense that Agnew does.
Kovalev is naturally very heavy handed. Unlike Stevenson, he doesn't need to have his feet set to throw powerful punches. I think just about anything Kovalev throws and catches Stevenson clean with would wobble him. Kovalev is a chinny fighter's nightmare.
