Styles make fights, I know Trout beat Cotto and Canelo beat Trout.
But Miguel is still the chosen one, I got Miguel by UD over Canelo, Canelo has no chance of outboxing him and must Ko or Tko him.
Agree... similar issue... Cotto beats a prime mosley... margacheato beat Cotto... Mosley demolishes margacheato.
Agree... similar issue... Cotto beats a prime mosley... margacheato beat Cotto... Mosley demolishes margacheato.
But... Canelo does have power... Cotto better be ready.
Sad that we never got to see the best of floyd because he decided to dodge real talent & threats on their prime... he did not want anything to do with prime Cotto prior to margacheato plaster beating... instead he went on vacation for 2 years, 5 years later he fights Cotto after all the punishment he has received. I would not be surprised if I see floyd wanting to fight Pacquiao after of course he got KO'd by marquez & is probably not in his prime anymore.
Im my opinion he is the smartest boxer/ducker of my generation.
The eye thing would have happened anyway... Pacquiao or no Pacquiao, margarito is a face 1st warrior, he will take 8 punches to throw only 1... So yeah he retired himself because of his style & because he got caught with plaster.
Are we going to keep going in circles?... We all know the accumulation of shots from Cotto, Mosley & Pacquiao is what destroyed margarito, he has no defence, face first warrior mentality is what ended his career.
End of story.
Cotto's papi
Nope... Resto's papi... cheato won as the best boxing cheater in history, by cheating with plaster... getting caught & continued fighting.
WARgarito!!!!!!!!!!!!
You were one of the most exciting fighters of this era and a true champion!!
We will never forget you, you were fearless, had tons of heart, peak-human conditioning, and an inspiration!! You fought like a real Mexican warrior and it will be a long time before we see another Mexican warrior like Margarito come along again!
One of my favorite pressure fighters ever, I never get tired of watching his fights!
Best wishes to you and your family Tony! Thanks for the memories!
True Champion that relies on PLASTER:greddy2:
I thought that he looked slow in the first Cotto fight.
He slipped right after the second Kermit Cintron fight, that was one of his best peformances but he also took a lot of damage and full blows by Kermit and we all know how good of a puncher Cintron is, especially with Margarito's defense.
His chin was always the same but the rest of his body was worn out even at the first Cotto fight.
He was lucky that Cotto gassed out in the sixth because he would've boxed him up for the rest of the fight.
To me it's still a mystery how he can stay so tough, his chin and everything, only his speed and skills went down because of all the damage he took.
#Respect
Don't forget he had KO Plaster Power:guilty:
Exciting to watch & very vulnerable. He's either going to bomb you out, or get bombed out. His defensive liabilities have never been corrected & he's very far along in his career. I don't see the ring IQ of say a Barrera or even Cotto to be able to change his style to make up for his flaws.
Much props to Garcia for ending the undeserved hype & saving us from a painful & worthless ppv. Khan has got to do things differently or keep us awed with exciting fights that he's gonna win or lose big. Warrr Khan!!:boxing:
At this point Gatti is a whole lot better than Khan... Gatti's chin is a whole lot better & have been in more wars than him... with that said I think khan is more like Jermain Taylor... was good & now is nothing
Which was his only chance at winning (early stoppage) imo. Face it, Manny is either physically shot or mentally not hungry.
Nope... Bradley is in his prime, Floyd is not... Bradley is faster than Floyd at this time... What floyd has as an advantage is more skills than Bradley.
That was a dig at Top Rank. Don't you find it strange that Floyd is only accused of ducking Top Rank fighters? Was Cotto with Top Rank when he fought Floyd?
Yes.. Cotto was with Top Rank at that time... Floyd was brilliant from 140 down... his 147 run wasn't that great... fought Baldomir who is a nobody, fighting a small Marquez that was supposed to be at 144 & Floyd could not make the weight, came in 146, fighting a 40 year old Mosley... the only win I give him credit for at 147 is Ortiz.. ended up in a legal cheap shot.
Danny fights nothing like margarito and Maidana. He's no Marquez, but he's a thinking man's fighter.
Besides, Danny is a counterpuncher
Agree... can't wait to see more of him.. kid has a bright future.
So it doesn't matter that mosley was still a top ww, just his age? Doesn't matter that zab was a former undisputed champ or that hatton was top 5 p4p.
I mean if you can discount wins against elite fighters so easy, whats the point of even fighting? DO you do this for eveyone, or just floyd?
I include Pacquiao & his catchweight reign... also fought old Mosley... Hatton was never a 147 pounder, he got the W against Collazo wich was closer & Zab I did not include on 147 so sorry for that.. Zab was a top dog at WW... So at the end of the day you try & fight opponents that are on their prime.. not wait till they been in wars & are done.
So you don't give Floyd credit for shutting out Marquez even though Marquez unofficially beat Pacquiao?
40 yr old Mosley was #5 P4P and the welterweight king at the time, coming off the Margarito destruction.
Cotto fought a more prime Mosley, when he was 35.
Don't get me wrong, I can't stand the guy. But didn't him and his wife have like an incredibly long relationship? Sure, she looked like an ice maiden but I guess such a life changing thin as retirement must change the relationship status. Not that I really care. Those glasses are a bit suspect though! ;@)
I remember an Hbo spot they did on Marg & his wife... they were sweethearts back in school i guess
Floyd asked shane to fight in 04 and 05, but shane refused. See at that time, floyd wasn't money, he was just high risk no reward. So shane is the reason he fought floyd at 40. Do you factor that in?
I know this is a business & money is 1st for alot of fighters... but if you want to be remembered a s a legend in boxing... you fight the best when they are on their prime. You have to take risks to be great, Floyd is very smart & always takes calculated risks.
People always say floyd has never had a career defining fight, like a leonard vs hearns or a ali vs foreman. Thats true to a degree but my question is how is he ever gonna have a really great win if he's the favorite from 140 to 154, maybe even 160 depending who it is.
The reason why ali beating foreman was so great among everything else, is the fact everyone thought he was gonna get killed. Leonard was the same, people thought hearns and hagler were gonna destroy him.
The problem floyd has is even if he fought chavez jr. assuming he wins, floyd would probally still be the betting favorite. Thats crazy! Please dont start the manny thing either, no boxing expert thinks manny will beat floyd. Only fans think this, i watch ellie sechbac ask every trainer, fighter and promoter that question and 95% of them always pick floyd.
So the question is under these circumstances do you think floyd will ever be credited with a GREAT win. Or will he have to wait 20 years for that recognition.
P.S. even if you think floyd ducked some good fights he was still the betting favorite in every "DUCK" so how great would a margo or williams win seem now given how their careers turned out(margo-plaster) (williams-1 punch K.O.,lara loss).
thoughts ?
Floyd is a very smart fighter... he knows when is the best time to take a fight. For example, when floyd beat Hatton he was asked by Larry Merchant "are you interested in fighting Cotto a young undefeated lion?" Floyd instantly said "Im not calling out no welterweights.. Im retiring"... "boxing is not going to retire me, Ill retire from boxing 1st". He waited till the welterweight division cleaned itself out & came back... fighting Cotto 5 years later after being in alot of wars is an easy pick.
Really hope this isnt true:
http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/01/03/13/pacquiao-showing-early-signs-parkinsons-disease
I hope this is not true... and to the kids here please don't make any "funny" comments... very sad if he ends up like Ali.
Beast at 140  How? by beating Arturo Gatti?
Gatti was on top back then so yeah he did fight top fighters back then... 147 & up he did cherry pick his way to "retirement".
Well you can say what you like about Floyd Mayweather Jr but I can never recall him cherrypicking a blown up flyweight
floyd started his cherry picking campaign at 147... before that he was a beast at 140 & bellow.
