Wlad fans seem to want to force this idea that Wlad is the greatest ever on everyone.
Just watch Wlad fights and then watch a fight from years past. It's like watching a fight in slow motion. He's slow and robotic and doesn't throw combinations. Jab, jab, jab, cross. Stand, stand, jab, jab, jab, cross. Come on now. If the competition wasn't nothing but fat out of shape "fighters" with titties swinging all about who knows what his record would be.
He is the best RIGHT NOW. Why can't Wlad fans be happy with that and move on? And no he wouldn't be considered the greatest ever. Larry Holmes got NO RESPECT when he was fighting. And if you compare the guys he fought to the complete bums that are heavyweights nowadays then Holmes was much better so your argument makes no sense whatsoever.
Great fighters don't get KTFO by bums like Brewster and Purritty. End of thread.
I think Sergio is the best in the world at the moment but I can see the judges giving it to Jr. because we all know how corrupt fights on HBO are for the young up and coming house fighters. I think Martinez needs a KO or he has no chance tbh.
ADRIEN BRONER SHATTERS HBO TV RATINGS
"which is the fourth highest rated"
Kind of a misleading title.
Not trying to hate here (even tho I dislike the dude very much) but what are the chances that this is not true and it's another way of hyping Broner up? Just wondering...
Foreal
Boxing popularity has been at all time lows in the US for the past decade and they're telling us Broner who isn't a big name fighting a no-named fighter like Escobedo got huge ratings? Riiiight.
I honestly don't buy it. I think it's propganda. The average person I know can't name a boxer outside of Pacquiao, Mayweather, and some the Klitschko's. Most people I know who aren't die-hard boxing fans don't even know who the hell Martinez is and he's one of the if not the best around imo. I hope the report's true though.
Depends. Because guys like Maidana and DeLeon can be boring as hell when they're putting a beatdown on the air.
But there's nothing better than a guy with actual skill going for a KOl.
Terry Norris would run a lot of times. He wasn't always exciting. So did Hearns but Hearns was much more exciting than Norris.
Saw the 3rd fight Holyfield/Bowe.......ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ again dudes were tired as fuck again around the 5th round. One good exchange and the punches after the bell was all that was worth watching before the knockdowns in this clinchfest. 2/3 put together were NOTHING compared to the first one.
My memories outside of Tyson in the HW division were clinchfests most of the time in the 90s and other eras.
You pitting one fight against an entire boring career. LOL.
What gets people irked about Wlad is he's fighting either some fat out of shape bum who has no business fighting or someone 20 or 30 lbs smaller than him. He should be going in and blowing these guys away instead of being a jab, jab, jab robot.
And if Tyson was the only exciting heavyweight you've seen in the 90's then you weren't much of a boxing fan now were you?
Marquez below De la hoya? How come?
He's a great fighter but Oscar had more longevity. In JMM's prime he didn't have many significant wins but rather came on near the end of his career (i'm guessing this is near the end.)
To the OP. Answer me this.
Why didn't Larry Holmes (an American) not get any respect while he was fighting? And his competition was significantly better than the bums that are passed off as fighters today. Your argument is wrong.
Yeah he's got a very good chin for a middleweight. The reason is probably being because he's a light heavyweight who cheats to make weight.
The man is huge compared to his opposition. When he fights Sergio it's going to look like a light heavyweight/cruiser fighting a light middleweight. I still think Sergio has too much class and wins despite the size disparity.
Ward, Nonito, and Guerrero. NorCal runs US boxing.
I think it's an impressive win. A great win probably not but anyone who thinks it's easy to move up two divisions and beat an undefeated contender is an idiot and doesn't know a thing about the sport and probably never laced up a pair of gloves in their lives. End of.
I bet this clown had no problem when Floyd was acting like an idiot and trashing Asians. But just cause someone calls out Floyd he menstruates. And then a bunch of other clowns come out of the woodwork to defend him. A lot of "special" people here I see.
What softened/washed up competition are you referring too? Oh, you mean fighters like the ones Guerrero has faced recently, like Casamayor and Katsidis? You mean those type guys? I get what you're saying. Mayweather was a champ at 20, he fought Genaro Hernandez (RIP) for the Super featherweight title. Not a belt, the actual Linear title. Hernandez was the man at 130, he wasn't just a belt holder he was the champ. Mayweather's last 5-10 fights have been against all champs of the division. Judah, Baldomir, De La Hoya, Hatton, Marquez, Mosley and Cotto. I'll give you a pass on Ortiz, he shouldn't have been in the ring with Floyd. Pac has fought nothing but champs. he won the flyweight title from a guy that was 33-1, pac was like 18. He terrorized the smaller divisions for years. how about his last 5-10 fights, Barrera, Marquez, Margarito, Cotto, Clottey, Hatton and Marquez again. I'll give passes on Mosley and De La Hoya, neither should have been fighting when they fought Pac. Who has Guerroro fought? Honestly, I'll wait on that answer, because I'm curious to see who you can come up with that's of any significance.
The soft washed up fighters Floyd made a career off of. I've always given Floyd credit for what he's done at 130 but since then it's been guys coming off losses, washed up has beens, or never beens. It's a fact.
Judah? Please. Delahoya? Washed up. A Sturm victim. Hatton? HBO hype. Collazo exposed how garbage he really was. Mosley? LOL. Washed up. Cotto? Never the same since Margarito and his concrete wraps destroyed him.
Manny it's the same thing since 130 he's basically made his career on guys Floyd already beat. And to top it off both chumps are afraid of eachother. And neither would ever think twice about stepping in with anyone who's on top. They just wait for someone to soften them up first. You can try and deny it all you want if it makes you feel better about yourself but the facts are there.
I can't stand HBO anymore. Lampley and Merchant have gotten horrendous. Their little investment got battered yet they make it all about Khan. Typical. Nowadays I have to watch every telecast on mute because it's so sickening to watch the HBO team D-ride whoever the house fighter may be for a particular fight. Or have to sit through them hype up guys like Brandon Rios, Khan, Broner etc. as they beat up nobodies.
That's why I canceled my subscription and watch streams now. I won't give that garbage network any more of my money.
Sorry buddy, norcal doesnt run jack , but great win for Guerrero i was routing for the Gilroy Ghost hes got heart.
What other US region has two top5 p4p fighters? Thought so...
I do find some weird fans about the place. I mean when broner cheated on the scales against a fighter he was supposed to beat fairly, his hype train jumped to new heights.
But the Ghost riding a 15 month layoff & 2 division jump is getting hated on for toughing it out against a tough tough opponent?? That's just amazing to me.
Just shows the sort of brain capacity of some people. Or lack there of.
What other US region has two top5 p4p fighters? Thought so...
Idk... Oxnard has Sergio Martinez & L.A has Pacquiao... So Southern Cali?
Lmao. The Phillipines and Argentina.....
Try again son.
Wow. I knew special needs people posted here but I didn't know they were allowed to post articles....
I get it though. The nerve of someone actually wanting to fight top competition nowadays is unthinkable right? Especially when guys like Floyd and Manny fought their way to the top facing softened up and or washed up competition.
The dude who wrote this article should go back to watching WWF.
His point is Guererro is calling out the No.1 p4p fighter with just words. What he should be doing is beating fighters like Alexander, Khan, Bradley, Ortiz, Brook, Matthyse etc. in order to earn it. So far he's beaten no one of note.
Since when did anyone have to "earn" a fight with Floyd?
Oscar losing to Sturm and Hopkins "earned" his fight with Floyd.
Zab being embarrassed by Baldomir "earned" him a fight with Floyd.
Hatton fighting weak comp and getting battered around by a non puncher (Collazo) "earned" him a fight with Floyd.
Ortiz? Bruseles? Mitchell? etc.
Therefore his argument and anyone defending it is retarded. End of thread.
Mayweather would beat Manny. Manny at times made Bradley look like Pernell Whitaker and his defense is sub-par. I see Floyd making Manny looking silly and countering him all night.
Either way this fight would be the most overrated in history.
He doesn't bother to make weight. Doesn't bother making a second agreed upon weight because he failed to make weight the first time. Fights guys like Escobedo and feels he needs a weight advantage. Looks terrible against a chump like DeLeon and then claims to be the best.
Really. What's not to like?.....
