I'm noticing as I go through the web that many sports writers had the fight for Cotto and some even had it at 116-111. Sometimes you need to take the emotions of being a cotto hater or lover out of the equation. That's why i look at the writers and so called experts because they view the fight as a fight not as a fan, well some do.
Associated press had it 116-112 cotto
Dan Rafael(espn) had it 116-111 cotto
Eric Sloan (Boxing Examiner) had it 114-113 cotto
Ben Thompson (FIGHTHYPE) had it 115-112 Cotto
Patrick Gutierrez (Fox Sports) had it 114-113 Clottey
Cliff Rold (BoxingScene.com) had it 115-112 for Clottey
Some say it was a robbery, i say it was a close fight. If Clottey would've gotten the decision I would've been ok with that. The Cotto lovers and Cotto haters just see it different.
I agree. I had it 114-113 for Cotto (rounds 1,3,4,6,10,12). I could see giving round 11 to Cotto too (I gave it to him the first time I watched the fight but gave it to Clottey the second and third time).
To me, it was a 6-6 round fight with the KD being the difference. Very close fight that could've gone either way but I still believe Cotto pulled it out. Like I said, I can see a 115-112 or 114-113 for Cotto or 114-113 for Clottey, but those are the only three scores I think are reasonable.
Naseem Richardson seems to be the best choice AFAIC. Goosen is a great second choice, tho, with Nacho being a close third. Manny won't be able to teach much to Cotto and, like someone said, his fighters tend to gas out the end (look at Jermain Taylor).
that was a bit over the top. wasn't it?
I was watching the fight in a pro-cotto crowd and everyone put a funny face when they heard that.
114-113....115-112
no way it was more than that
I had it 115-112 due to Cotto winning the last two rounds. It was 95-94 on my card after 10 and the 11th could've gone either way but I thought Cotto's ring generalship made the difference so I gave it to him. The 12th was clear, IMHO.
But, while I don't agree with the score, that judge only gave one more round to Cotto than most people who watched the fight. You can't call a judge incompetent because he disagreed with everyone by one round.
I think it will go the distance. I doubt Clottey is strong enough to stop Cotto and he has granite for a chin.
I'll take the bet if you're saying it doesn't go the distance. I got 50K saying it does.
My bet is based on the fight going the distance... you would be betting it doesnt.
Oh, never mind then. I'm retarded but I'm not stupid enough to bet that this fight doesn't go 12.
One thing I noticed in the article, which I didn't know, is that Miguel Diaz won't be in his corner for the Clottey fight? I wonder why that is. It hasn't been reported that Miguel Diaz had anything to do with the Miguel - Evangelista thing so why would the cutman not stay with the camp (especially one of the best in the business).
yeah but he was in tampa and his conditioning was bad in the clottey fight. The way he is conditioned know i dont know about 12 rouinds with pac it will be a long night. unless he is some how able to land shots at pacs body. just an opinion
He was in Tampa for 8 weeks of training. Before that, he was in PR drinking Heinekens in Shannon's Pub on Wednesdays and drinking Johnny Walker at the Doble Seis in Caguas every other day. I know because my best friend's sister is always hanging out with Cotto and his crew.
I think Pac is too busy and fast for Cotto and I'm a huge Cotto fan. The problem with Cotto is that he's too mechanic and I don't believe he can handle the speed or movement that Pac will definitely bring to the ring.
I don't think Pac has the power to KO Cotto, tho, so Miguel will have 12 rounds in which to catch Pac with one punch and win, but that's all I give Cotto - A puncher's chance.
It's not the conditioning coach's fault that Cotto spends every night when he's not in training at some bar, drinking Johnny Walker, and trying to take home as many women as he can.
It's a well-known fact in PR that Cotto is a Johnny Walker fiend (kind of like Hatton and his Guiness). That is another reason why they moved training camp to Florida. I guess they need to start earlier because 8 weeks isn't enough to get Cotto in shape for 12 rounds.
For all of ya'll who voted NO, he shouldn't retire, how many of you actually enjoy watching him fight? He is one of the most boring fighters I've ever seen; watching him fight is like watching flies ****.
I agree with the OPs premise. I've been saying this for a while, too. Anyone remember how hard Oscar had it against Forbes? Is anyone here ready to tell me that Pac isn't 10x better than Forbes is right now?
Oscar will probably come out swinging for the fences in the first 3-4 rounds and will end up gassing himself. DLH can't fight 12 rounds after killing himself to make 147, there is just no way in hell. Manny's youth, southpaw stance, and speed will prove to be a nightmare for Oscar in the middle and late rounds. I expect Manny to come out and win the first round, lose 3-4 rounds in a row, and then pretty much win going down the stretch.
Pac 116-112 on two cards (with the third going for DLH in a Vegas fight where he always seems to win over one judge).
The Punisher's next victim is the public; we're all victims of his fraud. He should fight Vernon Forrest if he has the balls. But, of course he won't. He doesn't even have the balls to rematch Margarito because he knows he'd get KTFO (he almost got KTFO in the first fight and he knows it). What about Daniel Santos? He's scared of him, too? We all know he's too scared to go to MW and fight Pavlik or Abraham.
Sure, he can keep picking on 40 year old fighters like Verno all he wants but if he fights a real fighter he's going to catch another L.
1) Floyd Mayweather is God - Please get off of his nuts..
-He is good but he isnt great. He didnt clean up any of his weight classes. And he runs like little B--iotch.
2) David Haye can cut it as a Heavy Weight
- Even though he is from England and talks like a duesh, but he still can throw down. I bet he beats at least one of the "Clit" Brothers.
3) De La Hoya is too big for Manny... Come on quit crying people
-This fight is a good match. If this was a heavy weight bout no one would be complaining. Majority of the hw fights are mismatched by 15-20lbs. This is the same thing but only on a smaller scale and besides not title is at risk. Please rant about something else.
4. idiot posters like you.
Where do you put him?
I'll put him as the all time Great in History of Boxing..
Top 1
You're an idiot if you think that beating an old Mayweather coming off the biggest layoff in his career would amount to the #1 GOAT for Manny.
Manny is good and is probably a top 15 ATG, just as Mayweather is, but neither of them is even remotely close to being the #1
I think Ricky with Mayweather Sr could pick Pacman apart. But Pacman starts favourite in my books by UD
Seriously? You think this old dog will learn all these new tricks in two months of training? RIIIIIIIIGGGGHHHHTTTT.
I think Pac takes him out. Ricky's chin hasn't been too sturdy lately after getting KO'd by PBF and then getting hurt twice by Lazcano. Pac's speed and power (not to mention the southpaw stance) will prove to be too much for the Hitman. Pacquiao by KO/TKO in 6 or less.
I thought it was a ridiculous match up as well. Roach saw something in DLH during training for Mayweather that rang to be true. Now, I actually believe all the rumors coming out DLH training camp that Calderone, Ortiz, and Valero were giving him the business.
Yes, Roach did well. I hope he's smart and fights Hatton next, before he even thinks about Floyd. Pac should be able to steamroll Hatton, but I think he catches an L with Floyd. I mean, if JMM was able to fight him as well as he did, Floyd will be able to win that extra round to take it on the cards. PBF is just one notch above JMM and that is just enough to beat Pac by decision.
I'm taking all bets here and now.
Oscar is stupid, he could've walked through those shots early on and punished Pacquiao in close but just like the Mayweather fight he didn't.
Hatton will walk through those and hunt Manny down and take him out on the ropes.
You're an idiot if you think Manny didnt carry his punching power up with him.
Hatton gets KOd in less than 8 rounds by Manny.
A lot of the posters here are suffering from post fight disillusionment. Because Manny had such a good performance against Oscar, he has a temporary invincibility aura around him.
Hatton actually has a very good chance to TKO pacquiao with his style, so much so that I still put pacquaio as the underdog.
Oscar is old, and was underweight, Hatton will be at his prime weight and he is far from shot. Not to mention he is a natural brawler which means he will go toe to toe with pacquiao, not try and go on the defensive everytime he gets hit like a boxer.
Yes, and Hatton is an inside fighter. When was the last time you saw someone get on the inside against Pac? He moves around too much, he's like a damn hamster on crack. You can't hug what you can't catch and Hatton won't be able to hug Pac to death. I expect Pac to stay on his toes, bounce around, and pepper Hatton with the left all night long.
Pac KO 8
Nice post. So many thought Roach was just trying to cash out with Manny. Looking for a payday etc.
He is laughing now.
Yes, not enough people gave credit to Roach. And, those that picked Pac were called delusional and blind nuthuggers.
Keeping a higher workrate than he usually does. I think that's the whole key to the fight. Whoever dictates the pace wins the decision. If Clottey can pressure him BEHIND punches, not just come forward behind his guard, I think he'll make Cotto really uncomfortable. If he isn't able to throw enough, Cotto will keep a steady pace throwing 50-60 punches around, and out work him to a decision.
Yup, you hit the nail on the head. Clottey is too defensive and doesn't throw enough. This will only help Miguel win rounds and take a UD.
What is your one favourite or most shocking upset in boxing history??
One or two spring to mind,
Rahman over Lewis and probably even Pacquiao over De La Hoya, or how about the complete destruction of Joe Frazier by Foreman.......
I can't count Pac/Oscar because I had picked Pac to win (I was the only one at my house who picked Pac, and the only one of all my boxing friends).
Buster - Tyson is the biggest I can think of.
Pac - Barrera was a big one, as was Barrera - Hammed.
People need to stop talking about a potential Mayweather-Pacquiao fight if you are rooting for Mayweather to lose this fight. This could contribute to JMM getting a bad decision if he happens to beat Mayweather.
What people say has no effect on how the judges see the fight or how JMM performs that night. Also, the bolded sentence makes no sense. If he beats Mayweather, there is no such thing as a bad decision (you're saying that he wins, so the judges must have given him the fight).
Hatton will retire.
I salute him, he got up twice and fought to the brutal end, Mexican style.
His two losses have been to atgs, good luck Ricky enjoy the £s and $.
Yup, his two loses came to the current P4P fighter. That's nothing to be ashamed of. Maybe he'll go for another fight, but the way he was talking prior to the fight, and the way I see his family/fiancee, I just don't think he'll want to put them through another fight where something worse might happen to him.
It's a much closer fight than it would've been a few years ago. Pac has improved and has filled out nicely so that Floyd wouldn't have the size advantage he once would've made use of.
Mayweather is still fast, has a great defense, and is one of the best counterpunchers in the game. Pac has the activity level, tho, to make Mayweather fight more than he'd want to.
I see the fight going to the scorecards and, depending on the judges (who typically score for aggression rather than effectiveness), it could go either way. I can see PBF winning 7 rounds, tho, and using Manny's aggression against him by tagging him on the way in. I don't think he can KO Mayweather, tho (I mean, if Chico couldn't even buzz him, I don't think Manny will KO him).
