wahooooooooo! a ribbon!
Its a medal (Commanders of the Order of the British Empire) and a fairly big deal in our country so......
We tend to give awards out based on merit unlike some other places.
we ve got that shit... but ours is like the purple heart for serving in battle... i believe if your injured?
on that note... id rather have your medal.
I know and that is a deserved award however having served with your army you also give medals out for things such as flying over Theatres of Operations i.e. Iraq.
By that I mean in a cargo plane at 30,000 feet! :)
There was little left for him in the fight therefore yes. What purpose would have been served other than allowing him to be hit more often for the same result?
There will be other fights so.....
There were definately changes although they were subtle ones.
Hatton threw and landed far more jabs than in recent previous fights, he slipped and changed the angle on a regular basis and seemed to be able to catch a number of PM's jabs with his right hand.
Also his pace although still constant was less manic, he still came forward with purpose but seemed to dive in far less.
The clinching was not apparent, that may have been because PM did it all for him or it could be becuase Mayweather has discouraged that side of his style.
Hatton will never be a PBF, that's just not him but there were signs that there have been minor adjustments to his style. Also his physique looked different. Perhaps without the muscular training of Kerry Kayes???
7 weeks into the new partnership and Hatton is 30 years of age so....they would be only subtle differences.
yeah but he's had half as many fights as hatton
He has also now lost twice as many.
I could understand him saying this if he lost a close decision but he was completely out fought and out boxed by Hatton so....what does that say about him then?
Froch is garbage, Taylor and Kessler easily defeat him at 168. Kessler stops him most likely on a cut but judging on how many punches he takes Kessler may KO him.
What???
Firstly a cut is a lottery and statically very rarely effects the outcome on the decision of fights across the globe plus what does Kessler have in his gloves that you can make that statement??? Shards of glass???
Calzaghe by wide UD; pretty much a repeat of the Lacy fight. Froch has a puncher's chance, but that's about it.
I can't see it happening. JC won't drop back to SMW now, and a fight against Froch at LH would be even more one sided. Maybe if Froch unified the division, but a) he isn't good enough and b) he doesn't have time before Calzaghe retires. Froch should be looking for Kessler or Taylor; my guess is Kessler will be more eager for the fight.
I agree with every word here. Calzaghe is too fast, too accurate and way too fit for Froch IMO.
Whilst I agree that Froch does have weaknesses he is a very dangerous fighter.
I wonder of all those who have voiced opinions of him in this thread, how may of you have actually followed his career, in fact how many of you have seen him fight before tonight's win???
I have watched Taylor on numerous occasions and feel Froch would have a 50/50 shot against him due to his strength but I feel that Kessler has an all round better style with a solid chin and great power and that he would beat Froch over 12.
you asked a question to the people that had voiced opinions of him no? you asked whether they had followed his career and if they had seen him fight before tonight.
I voiced and opinion therefore I am part of the group you were asking the question to....
Actually I said 'I wonder', its a statement and I did not expect all in fact anyone to give me stats of which fights they had seen. As I was only wondering those that had seen him fight obviously did not come into that category, did they?
The only question I asked you was regarding how you knew Kessler would 'most likely' stop him via a cut. That question still puzzles me?
I saw him fight Pascal tonight, I saw him fight Reid, I watched him fight that Polish guy who was a replacement brought in on the day, I saw him fight Dodson and awile ago against someone called Page for the british title. Not live but i have seen them, he's a limited, tough fighter but he's get killed by the elite at 168.
Err OK. Did I name you in my post???
This is a typical thread that has run throughout this forum for years. I'm all for opinions but...its not as if Malignaggi even come close to beating Hatton.
Times this thread by 100 and you would have the general consensus that preceded the Lacy - Calzaghe fight, after the fight Lacy became a bum (apparently).
Hatton turned the clock back a degree in this fight, he jabbed more often and moved in and out of range and looked closer to his style of 4 or 5 years ago.
Malignaggi is obviously no Mayweather but he is a genuine top prime aged Jnr Welter who Hatton completely outclassed.
Hatton is what he is, a skillful rough house brawler but there can be no doubt of his ability.
BTW how is it Paulie was allowed to clinch at every opportunity??? Strange that.
Sky Sports PPV, unfortunately. Can't decide whether to fork out on this one or not. The undercard isn't bad, I suppose.
I cant bring myself to fork out £15 on Khan. Who's on the undercard?
Good post sanchez about sums it up really. Who nows wat wud have happend in the second half of the fight!!
Summing it up would have been brief, Sanchez wrote an essay on the subject (decent one though)
I am not a fan of Khan but he was too strong, fast and youthful for an old war horse like Barrera. Yes the cut was bad but it did not effect the outcome, many fighters (Hatton springs to mind) have managed to win many fights with terrible cuts.
Barrera just wasn't in it I'm afraid, age comes to us all (at different times)
As for Khan, he does have some of tools to do really well but to impress me he needs to take on Prescott again and show that he has learned to defend against a real puncher at that weight. Until then I will always expect him to be KO'd.
I have never really been inspired or impressed by Taylor. OK he is obviously a good fighter but IMO opinion lacks something in ambition and heart and holds out for a win rather than going for the victory.
Froch is also a talented fighter but is untested and I feel we will either see Froch come of age (in boxing terms) or lose in his first real test.
I pick Froch as I believe more is to come from him whilst we have probably seen the best of Taylor.
Can DeGale bang though it's hard to tell?
Some of his shots do look meaty, he stopped the Cuban in his tracks today with a nice right hook. Dont think he has devastating power but I think he can hit hard enough to hurt.
I wonder how long it will take now until he his being touted as the next World Champion lol.
I guess by the time the Sunday Papers come out lol!
All I will say is ' Audley Harrison'.
I just saw the fight. My first AM-fight for years. Man it was bad. I cannot believe Degale got away with all the holding. Only one point deducted is beyond me. The holding spoiled the fight. If this is the standard of present AM-fighting, I think the future for the pro-game looks grimmer.
Seriously mate, I'm a Brit but not a bias one. The fight wasn't the best but dont blame DeGale, 85% of the holding, throwing and biting was done by the Cuban.
DeGale is a slick fighter who is great to watch (see his other fights in the Olympics), the Cuban tried to make it a slugfest and lost his cool.
lol anyone who doesn't pick Hagler by stoppage has questionable boxing knowledge.
What? Hagler is a legend but he found quick skilled boxers the hardest to fight, plus Calzaghe has a great chin. Lets not get carried away here, Hagler is the better fighter and would IMO beat JC over 12 but Calzaghe is a fantastic fighter and thats a fact.
Add into that JC is bigger, I dont see a gimme on a stoppage.
As much as I am a big fan of Calzaghe he wouldn't live with Hagler IMO.
As for brutal stoppage etc, no Calzaghe is an excellent fighter with a great chin. I see Calzaghe causing a few problems for Hagler but being out strengthed over 12 rounds.
I sat and watched Hagler batter Minter and cut him to ribbons but Minter is no Calzaghe, Hagler found fast boxers more difficult but would wear him down over 12.
Hagler UD 12.
Here's the thing, Pavlik is the young hungry fighter of his day. Calzaghe is approaching 37 and has had a very long career.
If he fought and beat Pavlik there would be still haters, then he would be called out to fight the next guy and it never ends.
Jones and Calzaghe are of the same era and although they should have fought perhaps 5 years ago it didn't happen so....neither of them are in their prime. Jones has a suspect chin and Calzaghe has hand problems netherless it will still be an extremely interesting fight and the winner should get credit.
your about to be kicked out of the uk. pack your bags.
For telling the truth?
Hagler is the greatest middleweight of all time, thats just a fact. There is an argument for Robinson but I still would pick Hagler.
Hmm almost every cuban has won a medal, thats a reputation alright. The cuban he was fighting was very fast but james ability to get out of trick situatuions with his footwork will help him in the pros.
I suppose its good for Amateur boxing that the Cubans and the Americans haven't completely dominated the Olympics.
