You cant just throw him in there with a guy like Pavlik and expect Pavlik to get KOed its just nonsense
Your Brits are all Rubbish!!!
I didn't say he'd KO Pavlik moron, Pavlik would KO him easily within a round. He hasn't got the experience, I said he looked good in the olympics and would fill out to be a SMW or LHW. Pavlik would destroy him right now. I'm Indonesian not British fuckface.
Do I think that DeGale, fresh from the olympics, would have a chance against a seasoned professional and the undisputed linear champion of the world? Of course not. His career as a boxer is just beginning. He needs to adjust to the pro game. He needs to take a dozen fights against steadily improving opposition including young up and comers like himself as well as season veterans. He needs to get himself a British title. He needs to learn his craft in the professional arena and see if his skills will transfer.
If he has a chin he has a shot. But he might not take to the pro game, we have to see.
I'm just tired of people seeming to take the stance that amateur boxers are wimps. It's pretty fucking stupid. Wearing headgear and scoring jabs doesn't change the fact that someone is trying to knock you out.
Oh ok sorry about that, I couldn't agree more. Even if some of these olympians don't look like they have devastating power you have to realize the kind of snap and efficiency they have in their punches this usually makes for a more effective blow than some brute force untrained shot from a body builder type, which is what some people seem to dislike about the olympians haha.
Degale looked great in the olympics but he needs some experience in the pros first before anything, he'll move up from Middleweight anyway, he's young and his body will fill out he'll proberbly end up as a Super Middleweight or Light Heavyweight
Can DeGale bang though it's hard to tell?
Some of his shots do look meaty, he stopped the Cuban in his tracks today with a nice right hook. Dont think he has devastating power but I think he can hit hard enough to hurt.
Are you being serious thinking he would have a shot? Not to take anything away from the guy and I realize there is a alot of sarcasm on this thread but
i've seen top ams fail miserably sparring pros with records like 5-3, there is a huge gap in the talent and experience levels, it wouldn't be close at all.

What gets me is when people degrade amateur records and shrug it off as though amateur boxing is somehow soft. "Oh it's only about scoring points, it's pitter pat punching" etc. Anyone who reaches the olympics has had dozens of fights, made dozens of tournaments, fought in Legion clubs and sports halls and had many many people trying to cave their faces in. It doesn't matter whether you're scoring points or scoring knockouts, you're still hitting your opponent, and you're still hitting them as hard as the situation will allow. Sure a snappy jab scores the same as a big haymaker which is why amateur coaching emphasizes straight fast punching, but if I see an opening to take someone's block off I'm not going to throw out a little love-tap, I'm punching my opponent's chin off his face.
Besides which the more you can hurt your opponent the less punches get thrown back at you and the easier it is to outland them.
I get the impression that the people who degrade amateur boxing are the ones who have never tried it. Boxing is hard and tough whether you're wearing headgear or not.

we do need an itv propect though now Khans cunted off.
yep, Mick Hennessey's last big show was on ITV so maybe if DeGale signed with him then they could set something up. Joe Murray will probably join his brother there and im sure if they got DeGale and the TV deal set up then Price and Jeffries would consider joining up.
I think DeGale is more talented than Khan. Khan just walks in striaght lines throwing fast but pointless combinations at his opponent hoping to get lucky or the ref to stop the fight.

Good post. These guys that win Olympic medals are technically very proficent and the emphasis is on fast straight punching like you say, how can than not be beneficial in the pro game.
Look at Lomaschenko I'm pretty sure that guy could knock out Alex Arthur on his pro debut.

Degale > Khan.
I disagree I think Khan is the more talented by quite a distance. Still good though we need a decent middleweight!
I'm sure his life will change now, will he step straight into Amir Khan's ITV shoes?
DeGale is an overrated limey hypejob. Lulz.
Watch the abuse he'll get if he fights a fighter with a losing record in his FIRST pro fight. Like fuck is he staying amateur.
Frank Warren will get him the publicity he needs and a massive pay check of 1,000,000 pounds just to sign for him. If he can do that for the first 15 fights, win a british title, I think its good going for him. Then sign someone else on. (but be prepared to goto court)
PS: Pavlik will KO him, as james hasn't even had 1 pro bout before.
