Huh?
Hey, I know your screen name is I Watch Boxing and that may be the case...but do you understand it? Oscar is one of the best fighters of the last 20 years, a first ballot hall of famer and a credit to the sport. Tito was a real good boxer with a great punch, but ultimately, he's going to be known more for who he lost to than who he beat. And anyone with half a brain will tell you that there was no way Tito won that fight with Oscar. As a matter of fact, Trinidad was the one fighting scared that night.
30 million for Tito? Hahaha!!! He should go back and beat somebody again in a big fight before he can even dream of that kind of money.
I thought Barrera won the first fight and I see him winning the rematch. Juarez just isn't that skilled and I think he caught an off guard, disinterested Barrera napping.
Barrera has too much pride to get caught again. I say he outboxes Juarez and wins a solid majority decision and then gets knocked off for good by his next major opponent.
I think Jermain Taylor is a breath of fresh air in this sport.
Sure, he has a few technical flaws, but I think it says a lot about the upside of his career that even with those faults he was competitive with Hopkins and Wright, possibly the 2 best fighters in his division.
I don't think he'll have an exceptionally long title reign, though, unless he polishes up his flaws so that he doesn't need to put so much emphasis on his physical attributes to win fights.
I agree with you guys about having nothing to prove. At some point there has to be someone advising both McCullogh and Johnson that even if they are succesful they have no chance at a legit title and run the risk of suffering real damage. That's where a comission should come in, but if they both pass the physicals? That's where common sense must come in.
Thanks guys. Now its time for me to lose a fortune!
Seriously, if those Mayweather/Baldomir odds are right it might be time to place a small wager on Baldomir. I got a feeling about this one...
I think everyone has his list of favorite fighters with no regard to nationality and always roots for them. I'm no different.
But after those few favorites, I always root for the American fighter. White, Black, Hispanic, Asian makes no difference. I just want to see an American raise that flag over his head!
Hatton is a Bum!!!
Hatton would get beaten by almost every quality fighter at 147 and most at 140. Collazo could've KO'd him if he had started on the attack earlier.
Hatton has built his career on muscling around smaller, older and weaker competition. Plus, his whole strategy "Hold, Kidney Punch, Rabbit Punch, Hold, Hook, Hold..." is illegal and when the American refs start enforcing the rules, he will look just like a spoiled, non-battled-hardened Mickey Ward.
I was initially excited to see Hatton after so much hype in the British Media, but I've seen enough and the only reason I would pay to see him now is to get the pleasure of seeing him further exposed as just plain ordinary.
Time will tell, my UK Brother....I say, almost without hesitation, that Hatton will be well out of the spotlight as a serious challenger by early 2008...I just don't see how anyone could think he's that good, but going back to the title of the thread- Hatton is a better fighter than Ward, period.
Crafty v.s. Cheating
Corrales spitting out the mouth piece was no more cheating than Angelo Dundee ripping Ali's glove open to buy him some time or a dazed fighter fighting for the clinch.
There are borderline fouls that take place within the parameters of the game, like those mentioned above, which can be considered crafty and more a testament to the guile and intelligence of a fighter and then there are others where the objective is to blatantly cheat to get the upper hand right from the start (i.e. Castillo's scam at the scales)
Naz
Naz's downfall was when he made an effort to become more orthodox. The crazy, dancing Prince was great and might've done better against the tough and proficient, but uncreative Barrera.
I think, though, Morales would've done good against Naz too. Morales was more of a boxer.
If Tyson wanted to bite and break people's arms, why did he refuse to fight Bob Sapp in an anything goes fight?
He only wanted to do that when the other fighter couldn't do it back to him.
