I was at home watching a random fight it was a black boxer against a white boxer. I automatically wanted to black guy to knock the white boxer out. When the black fighter lost I shook my head in disappointment. The next fight was 2 white fighters and as soon as I saw that I hit the fast forward on the tivo. How do you feel about the subject does this make me a racist?

I always want blacks to lose unless its Tyson :tapedshut
oops. that slipped out.
I guess I got one of them racist genes :nonono:
I think everyone has his list of favorite fighters with no regard to nationality and always roots for them. I'm no different.
But after those few favorites, I always root for the American fighter. White, Black, Hispanic, Asian makes no difference. I just want to see an American raise that flag over his head!
Max Schmeling wasn't a Nazi.
Yes, I know, that is why I used " ", because that is what people believed at the time, and that is why they rooted against him...To them, I guess even though they didn't like blacks, it was better to be on the side of a black than a "Nazi"
Depends. Im puertorican, i usually root for a puertorican fighter, especially if im chillin with my mexican boyz and its pr vs mexico. It just makes it more interesting. But when i lived in PR, i would always root for whoever is fighting the PR fighter. At the end of the day, its all good, someone has to lose.
It's funny how Joe Louis, a "Black Man" that so many people disliked based on his color, and so many people rooted to lose against their fellow "white-man", changed their mind when Joe Louis fought that "Nazi" bastard Max Schmeling.
I think sometimes it breaks down to more than just color
Max Schmeling wasn't a Nazi.
Personally speaking, If I know nothing about who's fighting, I tend to root for the underdog, the guy everyone else thinks is gonna get fucked up, or the guy who seems to be having trouble, I like rooting to see the favorite get KTFO, no race involved for me, as long as your the underdog, you can be Cambodian & I'll root for you.
I'm tired of your bullshit. Why don't you just cut to the chase for once and stop being so vague?
WTF, how much more could i cut to the chase??
What is it exactly you dont understand, tell me and I will S P E L L it out for you.
I root for only my Armenian fighters. Everyone else is either an enemy or a potential enemy.
Hell no im not racist, im damn sure nationalistic though, and there is no problem in being proud of who you are and where you come from.
Anyone that dont like it, fuck them.
I do enjoy other great fighters and love to watch all fights, but i just watch because i love boxing, not because i want one or the other to win.
I'm tired of your bullshit. Why don't you just cut to the chase for once and stop being so vague?
Right off the bat if I see that the guy is Ukrainian I will root for him. Because he is my countryman. And it just so happens that 97% of Ukrainians are Slavs.
However if I see a Russian fight an African or an African American you can bet your ass I'll most likely root for the dark guy. ;)
As for superiority of blacks in sports I think it's simply a North American social issue. I never felt that way. I grew up in Europe watching football, and that was never even a topic. If a player was of black colour no one even brought the whole concpet of "colour". Henry of France for example. Me and my friends big fans of him backhome, and I can assure you that his colour was never part of any football converstation.
This whole black vs white thing I only discovered when I immigrated to Canada...and to be honest I was shocked.
Anyway its a dumb topic. Show me a good African Strong Man, now show me a good European sprinter...Different genetics, body types favoring different sports...
Anyway I personaly think its fucked up when someone roots for someone just cause the way they look.
I just root for my countryman, as long as he/she is Ukrainian I couldnt care if they are black, white, asian or martian.
I will root for the guy who is most similar to myself in terms of personality. I have to admit, I am biased against someone like Judah who tries to cultivate a "gangsta" personality but someone like Lamon Brewster who is black but also very down to earth or Hasim Rahman who is a funny guy are cool with me.
You get a guy like James Toney who's constantly talking shit about white fighters and of course I'm not gonna like the guy. I'll be honest, I'd love to see Toney get his ass kicked by a white Wladimir Klitschko or Oleg Maskaev because of all the shit he's said about european heavyweights.
In a fight between two fighters I'm unfamiliar with, I'll usually root for the guy with the more aggressive style or the harder puncher. I almost always root for the puncher.
This is one of the biggest problems in America. Everyone wants to be treated equally, yet nobody wants to be treated the same. Its sad to me to see shit like this out there. I'm white, my roommate is Black, my three other best friends are: 2 Black-White mixed, and 1 Mexican. I live in a neighborhood with about 60% Hispanics, 20% Black, 20% White. So I think its safe to say that I have an unbiased view of this. It's sad because it happens all the time. The world will be a better place when people start looking at each other as one race: the human race.
HAHAHA sounds like a line from a really bad movie, but its true.
So when you watch 2 fighters you have never seen or heard before who do you root for?
I don't have to...I watch the fight and see what the fighter has to offer...the fighter has to "sell" me his talent, and if he does, I become a fan.
I don't care what "Color" the guy is, as long as he has talent, I will more than likely be his fan...I say "more than likely" since I do leave some space not to root for the person based on his morals, and if he has a horrible criminal past with certain crimes that I do not approve of.
I wonder, do you root based on Eye color as well?
Even if I like both fighters, if I do choose to lean one way, color doesn't have anything to do with it.
It's funny how Joe Louis, a "Black Man" that so many people disliked based on his color, and so many people rooted to lose against their fellow "white-man", changed their mind when Joe Louis fought that "Nazi" bastard Max Schmeling.

See? THAT is, IMO, just YOUR OWN racist "tendencies" coming to the light. Maybe you should check yourself in other areas of your life and see what you come up with on the subject. There are not very many exciting white fighters? Not very many good ones? Maybe you would know more about them if you didn't fast forward on them and, PROBABLY more importantly, if you watched them without forming negative opinions before you watch. Was Calzaghe exciting and skilled enough when he wrecked Jeff? Gatti is not exciting to watch? Jason Litzau is skilled and exciting and has personality to match!! In any event, watchig and rooting BECAUSE of race... is not what a TRUE boxing fan would or should do. It's something that is you letting OTHER areas of your life affect things in OTHER areas of your life... unneccesarily
Your right I like watching Jason Litzau dude puts on a show.
Racist? Everyone is a bit racist because race is something we are all conscious of, though to different degrees and in different ways. For you to express your racial feelings through rooting for black boxers is fine, if this doesn't reflect the way you treat the non-black people you encounter in life. Most of the people I care about in this world are black; I'm white, and I don't think the fact that these people are black affects my friendship with them in any significant way. But I'll be honest, I'm more apt to root for a white fighter (or basketball player) because I think sports are a special case for white people when it comes to dealing with black people. I think part of this has to do with anger at other white people for being intimidated by black athletes. I hate white people who prefer black athletes to white, because I think they feel comfortable in their feeling of inferiority. But this is not the same thing as hatred for black people, which I don't have. So my answer to your question is no, it does not necessarily mean you are 'racist' in any regrettable or unhealthy way, and the fact that you asked the question in the way you did is admirable. Good K sent also.
good comment this really made me think

racist... maybe...but a boxing you are not..a true fan doesnt give a damn if you are black white yellow or green, he just loves to see boxers at work....you really need to look past the colors shit playa because it will only hold you back...
I would say that I root for the White AMERICAN boxer usually because they are underdogs for whatever biological/social reason.
However, I always root for American boxers regardless of race against any foreigner. That can be difficult when you have the loudmouth James toney against a guy with a little class in Sam Peter.
Boxing is universal and two boxers of different races, total strangers who don't understand each other's language, can communicate through their fists.
Im just trying to keep it real... Can't think of to many exciteing white figters out there when I say white I mean (american)

Most people have race pride, and should.(if you love yourself you like others who are similar)the same way people are proud of where they grew up. With that said i usually root for people who look like me,or are good at boxing, one of the two.
