He has been slightly over sensationalized throughout the years, but watching him fight in his prime you cant argue that he could have given trouble to just about any heavyweight ATG, if not beaten most. Imagine him fighting Frazier.
If anything I think his prime is slightly under rated. If he hadn't been destroyed mentally he could have really become a complete package, a truly amazing ATG.
I went through the first 10 pages, was dying, then started skipping ahead. I gave up after seeing that the thread was over 80 pages long and still alive and still dedicated to the original theme. That theme being whether or not Tyson had the feet to dance like Ali, even though it is not relevant to his style of fighting, does he have the feet?
I for one am amazed. I applaud everything about this thread.
To me boxing is a microcosm of life. You can watch a fighter for 30 minutes and know more about the way that person is wired than your best friend.
For 30 minutes there is no team, there is no mulligan, there are no excuses. Your mistakes cost you dearly, your victories are as satisfying as it gets. There is no other sport like it.
Also: It should be noted I don't like anything before the first bell or anything after the last bell. That's the part of boxing that is killing it.
Nothing says "Super Tough" like flipping your chair backwards Michelle Pfeiffer "Dangerous Minds" style.
That said I hope Cotto punches all of Margarito's bones out of his head.
Contrary to what current boxers would have you believe, boxing isn't all about going undefeated. It's about showing who you are in the ring. Boxing is just a microcosm of life, the simplest and truest sport.
In life you don't win every battle, but if you fought hard the world's gonna notice.
exactly
im getting sick of reading shit like this if you don't want to watch the fight then don't watch it
i truly believe that if jones losses this fight especially if it's by KO then he will call it quits this is the last big fight he'll probably ever be involved with
he gave the sport so much we owe it to him to give it one last shot
i remember when they were trying to stop evander from fighting but look he's still here it's easy to sit on the sidelines and talk shit but this is how these guys make a living it's all they know
Or Foreman for that matter. Dude was a fat 45 year old when he regained the title. Let the boxer decide.

That may be ok in some circumstances....but what about a guy like Holyfield........he will not retire and hang them up of his own accord........someone needs to step in sometimes........the same thing happens in the ring during a fight....sometimes the trainer needs to throw in the towel even though his fighter refuses to!!!!
Obviously you need to give them an MRI and a full physical and whatnot to make sure they are physically fit enough to compete, but there's no reason why age or record should require someone to have their license revoked.
Holyfield, for example, is an old guy who is still fit enough to compete. So long as he passes the tests why shouldn't he do what he loves doing?
Boxing will always milk the cows till they are dry, they always have.
That being said, I am not a doctor, but I see absolutely no reason why Jones shouldn't be allowed to fight. He may be a shadow of his former self but he is by no means a washed up fighter. Roy Jones Jr.'s shadow could still whoop most people's ass.
I'm contractually obligated to comment on any thread featuring The Pittsburgh Kid, however, he and Pac have virtually nothing in common in or out of the ring.
Photo #1 would be awesome on a t-shirt if you cut out the background and put the fighters on a white splash, then put the whole imagine on a black T-shirt.
What size gloves do Middleweight and Super Middleweights use for a pro fight? What is the weight of the gloves? Ive been told before that pros use 8-10 oz gloves for fights, but Im not sure what size they use at MW and SMW... Any info would be helpful, and if possible, please cite your resource!
Dependent on the contract.
If it happened now? I dunno. Calzaghe hasn't really fought in a while, he's old, and I don't think he's been training.
If it happened 6 months after Hopkins Calzaghe would probably win a UD.
Here's the WBO rules:
30) WEIGHT OF THE GLOVES
The weight of the gloves to be used in World Championship contests shall be as follows:
From Mini Flyweight to Welterweight, eight (8) ounce gloves shall be used.
From Jr. Middleweight to Heavyweight, ten (10) ounce gloves shall be used.
The weight of gloves to be used is determined by the weight classification at the official weight-in, not the weight of the fighters at the time of the contest.

Ok that's all I needed to know, green k coming for you and thank you very much!
Not a problem.
Seems like every boxing fan should have at least the WBO/WBC official rules bookmarked. It makes it so much easier to whine about something later when you can just copy and paste the rulebook.
Also: As an added bit of information for you and others, did you know each fighter must let the WBC know if they will be drinking electrolytes?
That wasn't gay at all! :fing02:
If you think that's not gay you should hear how ungay I am for George Clooney! I'd give him high-fives for like, hours. His palm would be raw.
It's not really a debatable topic. He was clearly down, and he was clearly punched while down. Whether it was a slip, a punch, a dive, whatever, you can't hit a fighter while they are down.
Even Dempsey was courteous enough to wait till his opponent's knee was off the ground.

Dirrell pretty much dominated him.
Same. Only I gave Dirrell the second knockdown Abraham his knockdown.
