Calzaghe Admits Taking Cocaine
British boxing hero JOE CALZAGHE has confessed to taking drugs - the sports star uses cocaine on an "occasional" basis.
The former light heavyweight boxing champ has apologised to his family and fans over the revelations, after British newspaper the News of the World carried out an investigation into the star's drug use.
A team of undercover reporters spoke candidly with Calzaghe, who admitted taking drugs and even tried to place an order for cocaine in front of them.
Speaking to one of the reporters, Calzaghe reportedly said, "Have you got any stuff on you now? I know the score, I done bits and pieces myself. Don't tell my dad for f**k's sake! He's no idea. Of course, I do a bit, but the thing is most of it is f**king s**t in Wales. In London it's not too bad."
After the publication approached Calzaghe, he confessed to his recreational drug use, saying in a statement, "I take cocaine. I very much regret my occasional use of cocaine in what have sometimes been long days since my retirement from the ring. I am fully aware of the bad example it sets to other people and particularly to youngsters and I apologise to my family, friends and fans.
"It is not a major problem in my life but it is something which I am actively addressing."
As a hardcore boxing fan I hate Calzaghe because he cherry picked for most of his career, However I do admit I hope he gets things right here. Hard drugs is the worst thing anyone can do in life, seriously. Not only will it be extremely hard for him to get clean but also it costs a helluva lost of cash and Calzaghe while he did make alot of cash. Not as much as Bernard Hopkins or Roy Jones, He fought alot of low promoted title defences in Wales.
As a fan of the sport I hope he gets clean. It sets a very bad example
Excellent post, Green K given ;)
Suprised when a top atlethe takes drugs because they are more health conscious than most and worry what goes in them. That is what i thought, but i must be naive to think that.
Maybe because JC needs to be happier and thats what Cocaine gives people. Gives people an artificial confidence and happiness for a while, but theres always comedowin isnt there.
How do you know fighters were clean back in the day? Back then, we didn't have this ****in pathetic celebrity culture where everyone is obsessed with what celebrities do in their spare time.
Because he was winning fights and world titles!
No one can win world titles and be a cokehead.........
Too much work goes into training, Training that you could not do if you had taken Cocaine even a few days before....
I can tell you don't know much about boxing

err, bit of naivety going on. Coke's everywhere...especially amongst the rich and famous.
if it was a musician or something nobody would be surprised but calzaghe is an athlete. back in the day most fighters lived clean, now a day fighters are getting lazier and lazier. guzman just set a new all time low as far as work ethic goes, and now someone we all thought of as a great example of a clean and dedicated athlete admits to using coke.
the boxers need to set examples or the young fighters out there are gonna get lazier and lazier too and we will end up having fighters no better than the ones in mma.
I was a bit dissapointed as well skin .Not good for the young amatuers in the sport today to see .He had a good rep and at the end of the day boxing should be a clean sport in and outside the ring .
Thats exactly how I feel mate, Some people may argue he is retired and has his own personal life but he is looked up an awful lot world wide and especially in wales. Young sports fans really admire him as he there biggest sporting star in recent times, He should realize that to a certain extent he has responsibility to those kids.
