Is Iron mike overated. Me personally i say yes. Its not that i doubt his power or his speed. Its just that mike has fought nothin but chumps his whole career. Any real fight that he had he lost. Buster douglas cleaned his clock, holyfield whooped his ass, lewis destroyed his face, Danny Williams "shocked the........." oh wait by this time it was no shock at all, i mean come on this guy even got beat by his Girl Robin Givens. So that is why i say he is overated. Great knockout artist, tenatious fighter, but no heart or skill.
What? Do you disagree.? Tell me why
He has been slightly over sensationalized throughout the years, but watching him fight in his prime you cant argue that he could have given trouble to just about any heavyweight ATG, if not beaten most. Imagine him fighting Frazier.
If anything I think his prime is slightly under rated. If he hadn't been destroyed mentally he could have really become a complete package, a truly amazing ATG.
Pavlik = was cared of williams..no need to mention him..(b-hop damaged him)
Williams= just won by a small margin against a fighter we never heard of!
Martinez= I'm sorry i haven't heard of him yet!
Why the fu** would you mention sturms name..he's all ur not..at least he's got a gf.
He beat oscar de la hoya too don't forget!
Felix is teamed up with roach now!! He is good Now he's even gonna become better.
Aren't you that guy i gave advice to how to talk to women?
Aren't you that guy who cried for not getting attention from miss dee cole.
If the answer is yes to the questions above..i request from you to stop posting or responding to my posts THANK YOU.
He needs to fight someone known nationally to increase his status as a boxer. PERIOD.
Tyson is what he is, done what he done, accomplished what he accomplished, and that's all there is to it.
He captured every boxing fans imagination as being the baddest man on the planet, and looked the look! There will never ever be another like him, and that's what makes him special.
I get sick of all these overrated threads...........what happens, happens. how things turn out, is how things turn out.
Now on a lighter note, I'm sick of reading all the Pacman vs. Mayweather shit! Let's talk about it when the fight gets made and when it is a lot closer to happening. :boxing:
Frank Bruno isn't a great fighter? Razor Ruddock? Larry Holmes? Michael Spinks?
Tyson is the only one to ever knockout Holmes and he went on to school prime Ray Mercer.
Tyson isn't overrated, from the lists I've seen, he's usually rated among the top 10-15 GHOAT. It's hard to say a guy was overrated when he barely trained and was still demolishing decent-good opposition. He could have done more, but what he did do in his short prime is enough to have him ranked accurately in the top 10-15.
I think yes. A lot of Tyson fans think that he is the greatest fighter of all time, a sort of flawless unbeatable king of the ring but its just not true. I'll explain why: 1) He was ko'd five times, suggesting his chin wasnt top notch.
2) He couldnt fight on the inside. (this comment will cause some argument, but check out a video on Youtube "Mike Tyson was not an inside fighter" it shows that most of his damage was done mid-range and on the inside he did little more than clinch.)
3) He could be out-boxed and frustrated by clever fighters with good movement, check out the first round of the Tyrell Biggs fight and the first min of round four vs Larry Holmes. Both men boxed on their toes and totally neutralized Tyson.
Tyson was a good fighter but not as increadable as people make out.
Frank Bruno isn't a great fighter? Razor Ruddock? Larry Holmes? Michael Spinks? Brian Nielsen (who only had 1 loss at the time)?
I was joking about Nielsen of course.
Larry Holmes would be the only one I would consider great, but he was coming out of retirement to fight Tyson, he was done way before he met Tyson

A prime Tyson had tremendous power, accuracy and speed. I do believe a 1988 Mike Tyson will beat any heavyweight in the history of boxing. However Mike did come in a weak era, but he still fought some good opponents, and totally demolished them. As far as accomplishments go, he accomplished many feats such as being the youngest heavyweight champion at age 20, being the undisputed heavyweight champion, and being the baddest man in the planet. With this and all, I believe many people think Tyson might be overrated because he never overcame any of his losses, and never has beaten any "legends" of this era, eg: Holyfield, Lewis. But it is also a fact that he fought these "legends" after he got out of jail, which we know he was out of his prime and also mentally unstable. So what I'm saying is, I do not believe Tyson was overrated from 1985-1990. But from 1996 to now, he was overrated, but still an attraction.
good points, there are really two Tyson eras.

One thing about great fighters or those considered to be great they all BEAT another great fighter. I cannot say Tyson has beat any great fighters, but he definately lost to some great ones.
I know I will almost surely be highly overrating Tyson after he beats McBride in 2 seconds. Always do. Tyson makes me feel like a Cubs fan sometimes. Oh well, I love him anyhow.

When Tyson was at the top of his game(Berbick, holmes, spinks, tubbs fights) IMO he was up there with the top heavyweights of all time. But the problem was that he couldn't sustain his greatness and that now he is inconsistent. As far as him fightin chumps his whole career; Holmes,Spinks,Tucker,Smith,Ruddock,Bruno were pretty good chumps.
