Vitali.. He defended against the better competition, in my personal opinion. Wlad has beaten Ray Austin (pathetic) and then two guys that he already fought. One that he beat in the first fight and the other against a guy who SHOULD have beat, but just fought the wrong kind of fight against. I like Wlad and think he COULD (has as good a shot as anyone in the division today) of cleaning up the division. I'm just saying, other than Calvin Brock, and Sam Peter (who someone could make the argument, that before Sam had even reached his prime, gave Wlad a pretty good ass kicking) his brother just edges him out, to me.
Vitali defended the belt one time and that was aginst Danny Williams...Yeah great competition
His WBO reign was against Ed Malon, Herbie Hide and Obed Sullivan
Wlad has faced Lamon Brewster 1-1 with
Chris Byrd, Calvin Brock, Jameel McCline, Frans Botha and Monte Barrett
BUT THAT DANNY WILLIAMS SURE TAKES A HELL OF A BEATING?
I second that. People want a good AMERICAN heavyweight.
People just want a good heavyweight PERIOD!!!!
If anyone thinks guys like the current crop of even the Champions are good they are limited on boxing knowledge. Sultan, Ruslan, Oleg, all pathetic and eaten alive in any other era.
Even Wlad who I am a fan of but will be honest. In any other era is just a quality contender.
I havent seen any promotion at all... We dont even have a round by round coverage?
:ugh:
Last I knew it was being covered by some spanish channel but not a popular one available to everyone like Telemundo or Noticia. I would expect Arce to win though the guy is a jobber. Wish I knew who was covering it exactly
De La Hoya has made the most money in the history of the sport...
If you add up his earnings from the ring and endorsements it comes in somewhere around 650 million
Tyson made a whopping 300 plus mil in the ring alone ( he has 2 oif the highest paydays for one fight ever in the Spinks fight he made 23.5 mil as just a payday)
Problem with Arce is he either fights like crap ot he goes in and steals the show with little or no effort.
It is just that he fights like crap at the wrong times
Well you can not count guys like Forbes, Manfredo ect because they were established before the show, Steve was a former world champion and Manfredo held a minor title.
Soloiman and Bika from this season do not count either bothe have either been in the top 10 or fought for a title. You have to base it on unknows and if doing that it looks as though currently Gomez is the front runner.
I just wish Mora will fight a REAL MW and get smoked out already. His attitude sucks and is annoying
They went through this last season when Steve Forbes was on the show and people were complaining that a former world champion was on the roster. For a few episodes they actually changed that part in the opening credits where Leonards is talking and added a part that said it was for fighters looking for a chance to shine and fighters looking for one last chance at glory" IMO a contender is a guy trying to make his way up not a guy on the way down
as u all know many fighters get their names by fighting in the streets.. who are some street fighting legends in ur hometowns? what are some stories u've heard or maybe some fights that u've seen?
Kimbo Slice lives 3 streets over from me....
Sheiiittttt, you should go challenge him then dawg.....I'd fight that guy, I ain't scared of no man.
and i don't think the topic was who would you fight if you could it was what street fighters are from your area....Maybe you have already been hit a bit too much
I was thinking about this. While I'd love nothing more than for Pavlik to beat Taylor's ass inside out, what if Taylor actually shows serious machismo in this fight and slugs it with Pavlik, getting the better of him? While I don't think he'd get the better if Miranda couldn't, just to see Taylor actually fight and not back down, I think I'd give him more respect. Now if he beats Kelly Pavlik at his own game, I will definitely respect him more as the champ. This fight will completely change my view on him and I hope he doesn't let me down. All I've been talking about is how I want to see him get dethroned and basically based off his previous few performances, but he can completely change me if he goes toe to toe with the bomber.
If Taylor slugs with Pavlik even if he wins a slug out I will lose respect for him. He is the Champion he is supposed to make Pavlik fight his fight. Taylor has nothing to prove Kelly does. IMO Pavlik is going to be educated in this fight...
Mosley has no reason to fear Cotto and those muscles mean squat....I think it may be forgotten that Mosley is a pretty damn good puncher himself at 147...37KO's out of 44 wins....nothing to sneeze at.....And Cotto was shook by Malinaggi
And we know his fate. LoL

Kessler is no over hyped Lacey...Not saying Kessler will win or lose just the fact Jeff was the most one dimensional fighter out there at the time and everyone was hyped on his power
Sheiiittttt, you should go challenge him then dawg.....I'd fight that guy, I ain't scared of no man.
Well first off I am a 4'11" 102lb mother of 4.....so I really dont think he would take it too seriously......
Second of all internet tough guy talk is :lame: ...and I could be wrong here but I would bet the house on it that he would :crucified you in under 2min...but hey go to his forum and throw out a challenge....last i knew if you set up a fight with him and had the money to cover your side of the purse they would take care of airfare and hotel....
I think the minimum is $7,000...best of luck to ya :asshole:
Tommy Hearns over James Shuler
Ray Mercer over Tommy Morrison
Darnell Wilson over Kelvin Davis
Foreman over Moorer
Me over my husband who was trying to sneak in drunk as a skunk at 4am after playing poker blowing off dinner with my parents
Good Stuff there. Very true about the part of accepting the fact that we can not do things as we once did. Roy is not the first all time great to fall into this trap and he won't be the last. I would like to believe he is not doing it for money but more as Iceman stated for the fact he just does not want to accept his not being the fighter he once was. Either way though lets hope he does not end up getting one of those serious KO's that damage a guy for the rest of his life
Ok, so you approve of Taylor's boring style then. I'd prefer he slugged it out and brought some excitement to the division which is what I believe Kelly would do and would be a help to boxing in general by doing so. Fighters that put on performances like Taylor in both Hopkins fight and the Spinks fight, are reasons people don't like boxing. How can the champion be so boring and barely convincing at winning his fights? With controversy, you lose a lot of fans that were otherwise not even really into boxing to begin with. :nonono:
Did not mention that I like Taylors boring style did I? Maybe you can point out the part of my post I forgot
Point of when I said I will lose respect for him if he slugs it out is because a fighter should NEVER EVER fight another mans fight let alone a champion.
Pavlik has to beat Taylor not the other way around. Last time I checked Jermain was the Champion. Unless something happened that I missed. For him to fight Pavliks fight or any other opponent for that matter is just out and out stupid.
You talk about needing an exciting guy to make the division alive again ect all that is fine and I agree but you seem to be confusing what you want to happen with actual boxing knowledge.
As far as boring styles go I seem to remember a guy who held the MW title for 11 years and has the record defenses everyone complained about but he got the job done and is going down as an ATG
So don't try to make my post sound like I don't know what I am talking about because I will school you in this sport any day of the week and twice on sunday
these two butt-buddies named ryu and ken just a couple blocks down. they legalized gay marriage here a while back, when they moved in people gave them shit...they don't give them shit no more.
:haha: :haha:
people say barrera didnt grow up poor
Actually Barrera did not only just grow up not poor but his family extremely respected in Mexico. It was a huge disapointment that he became a fighter to them. ( I seen it on one of those biography type things) He was actually supposed to go to law school I think his one brother is a lawyer or doctor...Marco had everything and more as a kid.
IMO that makes me respect him a bit more believe it or not because he is fighting for himself and to accomplish what he has and take the punches he has over the years when he did not have to shows he fights for glory..
Something few guys do anymore
big fight for the brits yea.
This is a big fight for boxing period not just the Brits, we have the 2 most skilled fighters from 160-168 in the ring tonight
