I was thinking about this. While I'd love nothing more than for Pavlik to beat Taylor's ass inside out, what if Taylor actually shows serious machismo in this fight and slugs it with Pavlik, getting the better of him? While I don't think he'd get the better if Miranda couldn't, just to see Taylor actually fight and not back down, I think I'd give him more respect. Now if he beats Kelly Pavlik at his own game, I will definitely respect him more as the champ. This fight will completely change my view on him and I hope he doesn't let me down. All I've been talking about is how I want to see him get dethroned and basically based off his previous few performances, but he can completely change me if he goes toe to toe with the bomber.
i agree with nice guy45 a win is a win taylor has a philly shell defense which is very annoying to fight against e.g. mayweather but i think he will do his best this fight cause he knows he gotta do something gd from his last performances.
:nonono: Taylor has fought the best opposition he could. Hardly a paper champ.
exactly
its hard to look good against bernard hopkins twice, winky wright, kassim ouma with his iron chin, and cory spinks
and when taylor beats the game but overrated pavlik
he still won't get props unfortunately for him
I believe that many fans base their present view of Kelly Pavlik based on his performance agianst Edison Miranda and his impressive TKO in that fight... But prior to that win, he was in against soft opposition for the most part... There is a good chance that Pavlik may KO Taylor on September 29th, but it is equally logical to assume that Jermain will decision Kelly
lets get real, im getting tired of people who say pavlik has been against weak or soft opposition
first off, you can bet your ass he has had a very tough time finding opponents for the past 3 years cause nobody wants to be that guy who gets their ass knocked out if they think theyve got a future
another way you can tell that is by looking at the guys he has fought. zuniga, zertuche, mckart and miranda are all very tough and rugged fighters none of whom had ever been knocked out before facing pavlik. as a matetr of fact zuniga just knocked out former hot prospect victor organov at super middle. only these extremely durable fighters bother to even consider fighting pavlik.
those 4 opponents reflect a much higher caliber of opposition overall than jermaine taylor had defeated prior to facing bernard hopkins

I hate louv duva for what happened to Taylor. Meldrick that is.
I dont call a fight a robbery if it's that close of a fight. I think a draw was actualy the appropriate descision. I could see it for Taylor if you scored it that way.
Why is it that people can't tell the difference between a robbery and a controversial decision.
Pssh, we all know Wright-Taylor was a robbery, because it should have been 7-5 instead of 6-6. No other possible way of scoring the fight unless you are a businessman coward judge giving out country fried hometown cooked decisions.
I'm so fucking sick of the word robbery on this forum.
If he wins I'll give him some props, but the only way I can see him actually getting me to say he's good is if he knocks out someone like calazage or maybe kessler at supermiddle.
Even then, I still won't like him probably. I've always hated Taylor since Hopkins got robbed.

no,it'd just make me ask why he didn't do that in his last fight
how the **** are you supposed to slug with Cory Spinks

Ok, so you approve of Taylor's boring style then. I'd prefer he slugged it out and brought some excitement to the division which is what I believe Kelly would do and would be a help to boxing in general by doing so. Fighters that put on performances like Taylor in both Hopkins fight and the Spinks fight, are reasons people don't like boxing. How can the champion be so boring and barely convincing at winning his fights? With controversy, you lose a lot of fans that were otherwise not even really into boxing to begin with. :nonono:
Did not mention that I like Taylors boring style did I? Maybe you can point out the part of my post I forgot
Point of when I said I will lose respect for him if he slugs it out is because a fighter should NEVER EVER fight another mans fight let alone a champion.
Pavlik has to beat Taylor not the other way around. Last time I checked Jermain was the Champion. Unless something happened that I missed. For him to fight Pavliks fight or any other opponent for that matter is just out and out stupid.
You talk about needing an exciting guy to make the division alive again ect all that is fine and I agree but you seem to be confusing what you want to happen with actual boxing knowledge.
As far as boring styles go I seem to remember a guy who held the MW title for 11 years and has the record defenses everyone complained about but he got the job done and is going down as an ATG
So don't try to make my post sound like I don't know what I am talking about because I will school you in this sport any day of the week and twice on sunday

I have respect for him, just not "slugger respect" for him. If he slugs it out, and gets the W.. I'd just have more credit for him. Regardless of weight.. age.. situations, fact is he's fought fighters the caliber of Hopkins (twice), Wright, Ouma, Spinks, all in a row and is still undefeated. Say what you want, he's got some balls. He just happens to be boring as hell sometimes.. (Minus the Wright fight, pretty decent scrap...)

If Taylor beats Pavlik and decisively not a razor close ppoints win he will for sure earn my respect.
This is the perfect fight for Taylor to gain some respect back that he probably has lost since his last few fight have been anti-climatic and he's seemed to be not improving. We'll see how Taylor faces up against the pressure and if he wins in exciting fashion than I think he will start to get some of that respect back.
I, as well as he probably does, agree that a winning style is a good style. Winning and losing should come first, excitement is a bonus.
How is being boring make a someone less of a fighter? I just don't get it.
Nobody wants to watch him, pay to watch him, or give him the credit he deserves. Look at Floyd. He's got total lovers or haters. No many in between. You either like his style or you don't. Well as you know, I prefer the punchers and bangers over the boxers in most cases. Although I can appreciate a lot of dismantling of big puncher exhibitions by boxers. Those are cool to watch, but never as exciting as watching 2 guys trying to take each other's head off. :boxing:
