Amir Khan is the winner. Cayo may beat Maidana but will go a long way to exposing Maidana as a crude limited boxer. If Cayo has a good chin he has enough boxing skills to beat Maidana .
Khan is a good fighter and had a super amateur style that I feel is not 100% suited to the highest levels in profesional boxing. His main asset is speed, he has very fast hands but while firing his salvos his head and upper body does not move much and he leaves himself open and is open to be hit . Against second tier opponents and small short fighters his speed will overcome them no problem. On the outside he is very good , to beat him the fighter must shut him down and close the distance and fight him on the inside where he is very limited but only really good top level guys will be able to do this, the Bradley's and Alexander's and Ortiz. The combination of poor chin and poor in fighting skills will prevent him from reaching the very top legitimately. I say legitimately because I am certain he will be managed in such a way to keep him away from punchers and good inside fighters so that his deficiencies will not show. I think there will be lots of talk about fighting the top guys but when it comes down to it those fights won't happen. My guess is the next time he comes unstuck it will be against someone he is expected to walk over not a top boxer.
It's funny how people say Ricky has always been over rated blah blah blah but back then, Everyone would talk about him like if he was Pacquiao. True Story.
That is true. Khan is much more brittle than Ricky. Ricky was a pressure fighter and a body puncher,Khan throws most of his flurries to the head and is a hit and hop it merchant . Their styles are totally different.

Hatton faught every1 he could at his division....what more can some1 do?
He beat kostya tszyu to win the belt, Ricky went undefeated in the weight until pac....
How was he overrated?
He came short against the 2 best fighters of this era....there no shame in that at all....
Whenever someone loses people say they are overrated....people say cotto has never been the same, yet he beat a very hard fighter in clottey....and did well with pac until 5-6th round......
Good post. With Hatton you always had the feeling that once he left Warren he would genuinely test himself against the best and to his credit he did but with Mayweather the wheels came off. It was obvious to me he would lose that fight but Hatton really believed he could win it. With Khan I don't have the same feeling that he EVER really wants to fight the best. IMO he and team Khan are all about earning easier low risk money fighting hand picked opponents not because he is lazy but because deep down his team know he can't cut the mustard at the highest level. He has left Warren and the first move was to duck his mandatory. There is no intention to fight the best and Alexander and Bradley know it which is why they are talking about fighting each-other but not Khan. They know a Khan fight will never materialise.
The truth is Khan has a niche fan base that are happy to pay to watch him fight bums and he can maintain the charade and still have a market. with real fighters if they don't step up and make real fights they soon lose their following and market conditions FORCE them to fight a higher level. Khan does not have those kind of market forces at work with his giggly girl and gulible uneducated boxing wise fan base. They will continue to follow him who ever he fights and with so many willing mugs happy to hand over their money why should he blow it all by getting into a real fight and exposing himself.
Dirrell may be too fast for Abraham but is Abraham too powerful for Dirrell? If Abraham catches Dirrell with his best shots I don't see him lasting. It is either Abraham by KO or Dirrell by points. i don't have a clear vision of the fight but my money is on Abraham.
I used to really like him but don't have any respect for him any more because of the bullshit he spins. He picks too many soft touches for his fighters and makes demands on weight etc that stack the odd's too much in his fighter's favour.
I wish he would just shut up and train his fighters and let them fight competative fights.
Seckbach= PeeWee Herman of boxing. "What is it like to kill 13 people in one day?" He has no empathy with the people he interviews. The guy is a bad joke.
Maybe its booked up for the following weekends also, so instead of delaying this fight based off a venue its easier to just change the venue!
Exactly. We get all this bullshit about Maidana not being a big enough name now this.Maidana gets pay off money, the WBA gets paid to alter their position on the mandatory . There was talk about making the fight in Detroit because of the big Pakistani population . GBP goes through all that but they can't organise a big venue. Now we are told MSG proper is booked. The truth is there must be little interest in the fight States side GBP does have the UK PPVs to hold him up but other than that he must be concerned.
I see two legacies when I look at Jones career. The pre heavyweight era where he was fantastic and the post heavyweight era where his body paid a heavy price for going up in weight and he was starting to lose his youthful brilliance. I see them as 2 separate careers and this Hopkins fight does little for me. To me it is good pension money for a fighter that was once great.

First, let me see a link to where you read that they were thinking about having the fight in Detroit, and second, Detroit doesnt have a "big Pakistani population", they have a big middle eastern population, but that doesnt mean Pakistan... I am from Detroit, and I myself know a few Pakistani people, but by no means is there anywhere in Detroit with a large Pakistani population.. They make up less than 1% of our city... Where are you getting your info from?
There was a post a few weeks back when the malignaggi fight was negotiated that Detroit was considered as a venue. In the discussions it was pointed out that Detroit has a big Middle Eastern and Pakistani population and that was why GBP chose the location.
Yea I'll give him much respect for trying to be a 2 divisional champ but he has ALOT of work to worry about in this tournament and I dont likely see him winning it
I heard Froch had his way with Dawson when they sparred. Not sure if it is just a rumour or not though?
Anyway, Dawson won't be able to stop Pascal or Froch. He doesn't hit that hard and couldn't stop the ancient Tarver or Johnson. What makes you think he could stop froch?
Not stop Froch out box him to a points win.
Actually the wife beating episode could add to Valero's primitive caveman appeal in much the same way as Tyson was demonised and seen as a freak. The fact that he has a screw loose adds to his psycho appeal. Arum will turn Valero's primitive intincts and urges into a selling point.
But, then you can also the Hagler best wins were against guys who were smaller. Guys who were coming up in weight no?
This was not by design. In that era the legends were guys moving up. It just so happened there were no Hearns or Durans type boxers at middle weight but Hagler fought and beat the best middle weights at the time.
Hagler he fought the best at their best ,the ducking accusations and picking opponennts when they were fading just can't be leveled again st him. Both are great fighters but Hagler is greater.
Other than Khan and Dirrell are hit and hop its I don't see a lot of similarities.Even then their styles are very different Khan is an orthodox stand up boxer with a ridgid look to him, Dirrell is much slicker with much better upper body movement and far more difficult to hit and much more elusive. Kotelnik is a basic, reasonably active solid journeyman plodder with NO real KO power. He is not world class and is really gate keeper level. Abraham is less active but when he goes to work has real single shot KO power and is world class and can step up the pressure. In sex anology terms Abraham has a very intese vinager stroke ,Kotelnik is a wanker ,very one paced. Dirrell Abraham is at a much higher standard than Kotelnik Khan.
Yea I'll give him much respect for trying to be a 2 divisional champ but he has ALOT of work to worry about in this tournament and I dont likely see him winning it
I agree I can't see Pascal beating Dawson and Ward is all wrong for Froch and Abraham is well capable of beating him.
There are lots of ifs and buts here with OPascal having to get past Dawson and Froch will have his work cut out beating Kessler, Abraham and Ward but I think Froch is serious about being the light heavy title holder one day.
Maidana is a very entertaining fighter. I wish he had better boxing skills to add to his intangeables then he would last and be destined for the top. I feel he would either KO Khan or lose on points and should have not sold out and enforced his mandatory rights. I would like to him get propper coaching and sort out his technique but regardless of that he is great to watch.
He was weight drained at 140, he'd even blow up to the 150s at Jr WW.
I agree. There is a big difference between a fighter busting his butt to make the weight moving up and performing well and a fighter performing well at way above his NATURAL weight.
IMO there are several boxers and many other top athletes that have used steroids and PEDs at SOME point in their training. The an off period for a fighter or athlete is a great time to use steroids and HGH to increase mass when there is next to zero chance of testing and getting caught out. During that period serious mass gains can be made and once the the athlete stops taking them although mass will be lost a lot of the gains are carried over but will be undetected.
There are other drugs that can be used as well and are not to be underestimated many of these deal with the conditioning of the mind. I was a witness in a court case that had serious implications for a friend of mine that was being tried.
The case pivoted to a large extent on how my cross examination went and it put a lot of pressure on me and I was extremely nervous about the prospect that if I did not perform well because of nerves that this would dictate my friends future. I took Beta blockers before court and my cross examination was a doddle , I had no nerves what so ever and despite the cross examining barrister doing his best to rattle me I could think clearly answered everything well and made him look an idiot. There is no way I would have been that cool under that kind of pressure or performed as well as I did without Beta Blockers. It gave me an insight into how helpful PEDs can be. Beta Blockers would be no use for boxers other than saving energy with dealing with nerves in the build to a fight but for a golfer, snooker player and darts player they would be fantastic.
Cayo is a good boxer, has his hands too low for my liking. If he has a good chin and we will find out tonight and can take Maidana's best shots he is well capable of of pulling off an upset.
IMO Dirrell is very talented but this tournament has come a little too early in his career and he has been thrown in the deep end. He has not made a complete transition from an amateur style and has to resort to funny tactics to win which is what he tried to do in the Froch fight and is looking for weird ways to win fights rather than straight forward out boxing. When Abraham gave him the opportunity by that stupid punch Dirrell took his chance and that is totally in keeping with his pattern so far. Dirrell took the easy way out but Abraham knew what he was dealing with and should never have given him the chance.
both are on regular arse hbo and showtime.
Thanks. The TV has like 72 channels . I am watching golf right now on channel 6. Have you got any idea which channel number HBO and Showtime are on/
