I thought it was gonna be in the arena of Madison Square Garden, but it's being held in the theatre which only seats upto 5000....

So it's not the big event that they are making it out to be, i know Khan has had little coverage in the States but i thought Mallignaggi could seel a few more tickets than that....
the capacity has been increased to 9,000 due to how quickly sales have been.
in the UK the fight could have sold 50,000 seats but guess GBP and Khan management are thinking long term
You really think it does 50K in the UK? I would say no way. Only Hatton and Calzaghe could do numbers like that.

MSG is booked. on all the other weekends. This May 15th date was the only opening for the Wamu theatre and they have expanded to 8,000 seats. The fight is selling like hot cakes. A lot of fans from Britain will be coming to New York. It will be packed with 8,000 people.

Maybe its booked up for the following weekends also, so instead of delaying this fight based off a venue its easier to just change the venue!
Exactly. We get all this bullshit about Maidana not being a big enough name now this.Maidana gets pay off money, the WBA gets paid to alter their position on the mandatory . There was talk about making the fight in Detroit because of the big Pakistani population . GBP goes through all that but they can't organise a big venue. Now we are told MSG proper is booked. The truth is there must be little interest in the fight States side GBP does have the UK PPVs to hold him up but other than that he must be concerned.
They know the fight will stink, so they're showing mercy on the fans by not letting them in? :)
There was a post a few weeks back when the malignaggi fight was negotiated that Detroit was considered as a venue. In the discussions it was pointed out that Detroit has a big Middle Eastern and Pakistani population and that was why GBP chose the location.
should be a great fight, both fighters need to win !!

Nah, apparently it's going to be on Terrestrial T.V (free to air), over here.

Agreed, this is where Gamboa and Lopez last fought. Haven't been but I've been to the MGM theater at Foxwoods so I'd imagine it's similar. These are great spots to watch fights.
It's very similiar, not really a bad seat in the house
Paulie-Khan is not likely to put the 19.000+ people in the stands required to sell out the garden. The theater is a great venue for fights

I agree, thats why i excused Khan's doings in this, cos it is his 1st exposure over there, but i would have though Paulie could have sold more in his own city.

To be fair, a 5000 prospective sell out is a good opening gate for Khan's first foray into America. Khan and Mallignaggi aren't huge names in the states.

First, let me see a link to where you read that they were thinking about having the fight in Detroit, and second, Detroit doesnt have a "big Pakistani population", they have a big middle eastern population, but that doesnt mean Pakistan... I am from Detroit, and I myself know a few Pakistani people, but by no means is there anywhere in Detroit with a large Pakistani population.. They make up less than 1% of our city... Where are you getting your info from?

I think it's quite bad by GBP to be honest, a WBA champion vs a New York native, and they are afraid they won't fill a 5000 seater?
Something more to this i think...
