It's just like champboxpr said unless they admit prior use, there's no proof of Margarito having used "plaster" handwraps for the cotto fight or any other fight. But if the boxing comission find it illegal then we'll all have reason to believe beyond a reasonable doubt that this was indeed a common practice within the Margarito camp. And everyone can draw their own conclusion.
I can't help but compare this to (For those of us that remember) Sammy Sosa and the corked bat incident. Sammy after all those home runs
and Margarito after stopping Cotto.
Different sport, same result?
We'll see what happens after the comission gets done.
:?!:
You'd think Margarito might have lost his concentration a bit way back in the locker room before the fight, seeing the boxing comission personnel take evidence to be examined and having to be wrapped up 3 times. I guess it wasn't exactly part of the plan. But no excuses, what was taken/done in the ring is what counted and Sugar Shane knew what he had to do and he went in and did it.
I still want to see if Cotto can avenge his only loss(against Margarito). If he wins then I wouldn't mind seeing a Cotto/Mosley II match up for the winner -to size up against Manny Pacquiao. And then some how unify with the third belt which Andre berto holds - depending on how he's held up or who's he confronted when all this is going down. After all that, there would be just one of two people to go for: Paul Williams or Floyd Mayweather! Then ladies and gentleman we would have the top dog, P4P, undisputed welterweight king.:boxing:
All I kept hearing was how so many people picked DelaHoya over Paquiao and about how he was critized for being so much bigger and everything. As opposed to the Margarito/Mosley fight where although Margarito was favorite to win, people were definately not hating on him for accepting to fight Sugar Shane and this was no mismatch. So Oscars' loss to me was worse.
:twak:
Pacquiao is impressive but i'll say this, I still have to see him take/absorb punishment from any quality welterweight to even say that he can hang or dominate in that block. Margarito might have ate up Cotto's head shots but he didn't receive any good body shots which no one can argue, Cotto is known for. So the question is can Pacquiao take punishment at that level from any other quality welterweight? That he has yet to prove. We'll see....
The thing with Cotto is that he has a good resume, he hasn't ducked anyone and has only 2 losses one to the best P4P guy out there in Pacquiao and the other is a big ?
Arum mentioned a Margarito rematch but Cotto has said that he doesn't want to deal with that guy again. A Mosley match would be entertaining because if Mosley gets passed Berto then it would be a title match for 2 belts.
Berto...I think so; Clottey...could be; Mosley...may be tougher this time around and ofcourse it would be really hard to get these fights one after the other. By the time the last 2 face each other alot of things/belts can change hands, anything can happen.
Arum said it was up to Cotto to choose between Cintron, Clottey or Berto. I don't see him ducking any of them. He seems to have gotten some confidence back. But I do see him thinking it out as far as what makes more sense $ wise too. That's up to him. I know I, like lots of other people, would prefer Clottey above the rest because of the type of test it'll bring both fighters and because of the type of fight it promises to be.
It's hard to believe that Clottey can go down like Alfonso Gomez and Michael Jennings did, he's in another class and he'll definately give Cotto a hell of a fight. But also it was hard to believe that Antonio Margarito would go down, but he did! Anything can happen.:boxing:
What you and many others should take into account is that while Cotto needs to get a new team and correct/improve on many aspects of his game these weaknesses have been uncovered while fighting nothing but the best. Other fighters who have ben criticized on this level are? Not one boxer, because no one has fought the caliber of opponents recently that Cotto has. I remember when people said similiar things about Mosely after his losses to Winky. If Cotto fights on he needs to make a change but berating him in the context of the PAc fight is ridiculous. Who else could do the things that Pac did that night? No one in boxing can throw punches with power and speed form those crazy angles and at that pace. 99% of conversations regarding Cotto's loss should lead back to how damn good Pac is, how in the hell is he punching so hard while retaining his speed and more impressive his movement and stamina at this weight is incredible.
You have a good point, props to Pacquiao. It would have been really hard to watch Cotto lose to a no-name boxer. We would've had alot more questions then than now. That would have really thrown up a red flag!
Pacquiao: Everyone knew Pacquaio was faster but I also saw Pacquiao stronger than Cotto! And he took away all doubt as to being able to take Cottos' punches.
Cotto: Cotto is a great fighter but lately he's definately taken some punishment. He had good conditioning and looked to be in great shape. You would have to consider these questions: Better trainer?! Has Cotto lost something since the Margarito fight? his power?
Sounds good to me. If Margarito/Cotto II is a no go, then Mosley could face Clottey. And that would be, as I read somewhere today, a WW mini tournament.
