I somehow found out Martinez knocked out the punisher on my way home to watch it.. I was so in disbelief that it was spoiled that I convinced myself I misread it. Kelly really has a bad reputation off his chain of poor events. However, ppl really need to rate him a little higher. He'd 100% KO Chavez Jr. He'd be asleep in spectacular fashion. Put Pavlik in with an elite boxer who can consistently use lateral movement and/or tie up? That's a different story.
Malignaggi snot a world beater by any means, but he is a decent fighter. And for a guy coming off surgery who seems like he wants to jump from 135 all the way up to 147 next, he's a good first opponent. Guerrero isn't doing himself any favors calling out guys like Ortiz, Khan, who are far more proven than he is.
I originally wanted him to fight Soto or Matthysse at 140, but it looks like they are fighting each other in April instead.
If he's serious about making a jump to 147 for his first fight back, fight Paulie Malignaggi. He was going to fight Senchenko but that's not happening because he doesn't want to travel to Europe. They are both Golden Boy, it would put Guerrero in a position for bigger fights with Ortiz, Berto, Khan, Alexander/Maidana, if he were to win. And I don't see why Paulie would turn down the fight.
Guerrero-Malignaggi should be Robert's first fight back.
I think this would be an excellent matchup, and would be a call out that boxing fans would not be inclined to hate on.
I just don't feel Cotto is that different, he is probably not at his peak but he is still a good representation.

At least an "0" on Cotto's record that suggested it might not be a waste of time. That illusion is gone. Although apparently not for all. I'm still seeing Cotto by KO over Mayweather predictions. Cotto's style always played directly into Mayweather's shell.
Yeah it would be a sick fight, even the biggest Floyd fan is going to be a little doubtful when they're both walking into that ring. We haven't seen that type of atmosphere in a Floyd fight for a long time. And I also think Martinez has star quality and the build up would be great.

Agreed, it's Cotto. The Guerrero talk is to make Mayweather's ultimate real decision look better. I don't think Team Mayweather and company expected Pacquiao to make the statement saying he'll do w/e it takes to get the fight money. Short money, full full testing etc. Makes just announcing Cotto slightly more problematic. They'll need a reason for Pac first.
Better PPV fight than any other fight available. Personally I think Cotto puts a better challenge to Mayweather than Pacquiao based on styles. Cotto's style is close to Castillo when he beat Floyd.
Face it, Arum wont let his cash cow fight Mayweather because his profits wont be as big in a co-promotion.
Let me also say a Pac/Cotto rematch would be equally ridiculous. And it's being considered, so I also hope that does not happen. Cotto loads with his hook too much, and his cross is just not that good against the very best of the elite. He will look baffled trying to crack Mayweather's shell. It's pointless in terms of boxing history. Cotto has not earned this shot with the Margs win, and he won't win the fight. On paper Mayweather will beat Pacquiao as well. Cotto's style and tank of gas does not offer problems for Mayweather. Imo.
They could always be driving down expectation so when they release the actual fight that would not really be that great people will think it is great in comparison.
The other side would be where there is smoke, there is fire and there has been a whole lot of smoke.

It's the next biggest fight Floyd can make. You gotta remember guys, Floyd isn't here to fight all the young lions of the world let alone a full fledged Middleweight. He wants to make the most money he can before he bounces. The only guy that comes to mind as far as creating an event that would be a success with two big fan bases, no other guy fits that bill with Floyd better than Cotto as of right now.

Well he fought Ortiz in his last fight so I don't get why you don't think he'll fight a young lion. Canelo would make tons of money, probably equal to a Cotto 'bout if it goes down on May 5th with a stacked Mexican card. Let's face it, Floyd is going to sell regardless of who his opponent is.
Mayweather -vs- Martinez would be sick. And boxing fans would have a real reason to be fans of whoever wins.(and probably of the loser) It doesn't make the dollars of the Cotto fight and it's more risky. Time to forget it as an option.
I've always thought Froch fought like a VERY slow Roy Jones Jr., but I remember a lot of people disagreeing with me about that.
I felt this way also. Then I realized my pathetic eyes were simply having difficulty comprehending what they were seeing. Catching up to the real time action. After thorough analysis, my conclusion is that Roy Jones Jr fights like a slow Carl Froch.
