I think he wants to think he is the greatest like Ali! And he is an enormous talent and great work ethic like Ali. However, he doesn't create the excitement like Ali and doesn't fight the best out there like Ali did.
I was watching an old HBO Real sports episode on him, and he was saying how he went through all of these different phrases introducing fighters in the ring, one was:
"Man your battle stations." LOL
But in any case those five words that dude should get pattoned whatever he's getting paid...
Wow. Was the Real Sports piece recent? I missed that one. I know he had cancer but recovered. He is a staple in boxing. Probably the best.:boxing:
I agree. I have been searching for news about this ever since his death. And nothing? It seems it was just an unfortunate accident, but by no stories about it?
Correct...
It was around 100 degrees in the audience, under the lights in the ring...it was probably even hotter. Robinson had to quit, he collapsed of heat exhaustion and almost died...
In the HBO Documentary about SRR's life, I believe they stated that he almost died and that his body was not the same for months after this fight. Robinson would have won had the fight gone the distance, but he was smaller than Maxim and couldn't sustain the heat.
He's referring to the Joey Maxim fight at 175 lbs. I believe it was for Maxim's LWH title and SRR could not continue due to the sweltering heat in the ring. I think they had to switch out the referee at one point because the referee had collapsed from exhaustion.
Oscar lost.
I don't care what he did for the first eight rounds (what, win six of them?) he LOST. I can't even believe people cut him slack on this board and act like he did something impressive. If you're boxing so impressively, why stop? Maybe because the other guy's strategy was working as well? And if Oscar's tired a** stopped, he would've got KTFO. So what does he do? Does he go all out? Does he continue to "box?" No, he ran. And lost.
The winner was Felix Trinidad. The loser was the sport of boxing, who expected a big night and got the most disgraceful display in the ring since Tyson-Holyfield II.
Very good point....well said...why did Oscar stop boxing so beautifully? Was Tito constant pressure getting in his head? Did Tito's pressure cause Oscar to change tactics and run? I think Tito should get credit for always being aggressive and ready to fight-however, Tito never acknowledged how one sided the first half of the fight was and that it could have gone either way. He just was elated as if he won all twelve rounds....
is what true???everything you just posted is common knowledge
Wiki is not reliable, because anybody can edit the text. However, I just didn't know the details behind these sparring sessions. Wiki is the only place I had ever read this.
Yes he had a number of 12 round fights behind closed doors he called sparring matches.
Were these 'sparring sessions' leading up until the fight was signed? I assume that is what prompted him to feel sharp enough to take the fight....or did he have these sessions during camp prior to the fight itself? I have never heard of this before. I assume he wanted to shake the ring rust.
How much was it?
1 year and 262 days?
coming back and taking the most feared fighter from Welterweight -Jr middleweight - middleweight for 12 rounds?
he got beat up yes but you heard the man in the post fight interview, he's not done, he wants to continue.
Everyone who knows about boxing knew Williams was going to win that fight regardless..you hear stewart before the fight "This will be Winky's worst style match up of his career"
Good win for Paul and nice effort for Winky.

This act would be talent or natural ability. Roy Jones was born with that speek. Dictionary.com lists the definition of skill as:
Proficiency, facility, or dexterity that is acquired or developed through training or experience.
The longer you practice boxing, left hooks, jabs, footwork, fighting styles/games plans, you acquire a better skill set in that action. Thus, the more skilled fighter is the one who has worked repititions on his craft and has god given natural ability to execute those actions. A good example would be Kobe Bryant. Highly talented, actually world class talent and the work ethic to apply repititions, passion, and durability to continue working on his craft, even in the offseason. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is always in shape, thus his skills don't diminish, and he has the god given natural ability(recent retirement not withstanding- but we know Floyd stays in shape- skillset still present remains to be seen on Sept.19th)
Hey everybody. Just moved from California to Fort Worth, Texas to find work and buy an affordable house. Problem is, I don't know anybody out here. I am looking for some boxing fans to hang with and watch the fights with on weekends. I know there is a Top Rank card on Aug.29th in Grand Prairie. I know Paulie Ayala's gym is around FW area too.
I've been a fight fan since Leonard-Duran I when I was ten years old. I love boxingscene.com and have been to Vegas to see a few fights here and there. Just want to meet the fight fan crowd in town. Hit me up if you are cool and like to drink beer and watch fights(no homo). Later fellas.
Fort Worth fight fans!! Looking to hang out with somebody to watch the fight this weekend. Mayweather-Marquez...Sept. 19th. I am intrigued, but I have to say Mayweather by easy 12 round decision. JMM is going to bring it, but he is too small, and just not talented enough to hurt Money May or even fast enough to beat him. I love JMM, but this is Mayweather fight, hands down. Ring rust for Money May may make it a little closer, but this is really a no-brainer. Hit me up if you want to hang out(no homo)...Later..

??? Crickets??
I have watched several PPV events by myself, and I easily prefer it that way. Casual fans could care less about the undercard fights, the commentary, or the pre-fight interviews. It's great being able to catch every single thing, especially when you are paying $25-55 bucks for it. It's hard to watch a huge fight (with a fighter like Mayweather or Pacquiao) by yourself though. Everybody wants to come over and see fights like that...
Co-sign. Only hardcore boxing fans will come over, but a lot of times the boxing friends I have are going somewhere else for the big fights. I'll order PPV all the time and stay home and watch intently, all by myself. Its actually better, no distractions. Its awful right after the fight, because you don't have anyone to discuss the fight with and go party with afterward.
who's fault was it that he was weight drained ?
you could say if moorer had of boxed more he would have beaten
foreman on points. foreman would have beaten ali if he had paced
himself... it goes on and on..
Well said cuzzfozzy......woulda ..coulda...shoulda...!!
Horrible news. Man, what is going on in this world. Bad things happen to good people. Brutal. RIP Corrie Sanders. I'll never forget the Vlad 2nd round knockout.
I knew Oscar would have some problems with Manny because of the shots he took from Forbes. I thought that Manny's speed, volume punching, activity of being in the ring often, and determination to win would give Oscar problems. I initially picked Manny, but then I thought 'what if Oscar lands the left hook like he did in the first round against Mayorga?'. I never thought the outcome would be what it was. I don't think Oscar would have fared well even if he came in in the mid 150's at fight time. He kept saying how great he felt on 24/7. This fight didn't shock me as much as how Hopkins chewed up Pavlik like he was an amateur.
Oscar shouldn't fight again and should just enjoy his life and his silk pajamas.
