He's a great fighter, it's just that Williams was on par that night. Constant activity, stamina, good chin, plus it didn't help that Winky doesn't have knockout power.
I heard the HBO crew say that going into the fight, Winky was 1-1-1 in his last fights, I was rather surprised.
Yeah I Really Think He Won That Jermain Taylor fight which was a Draw.
The Hopkins Fight was Bad Showing, Boring altogether. Styles made it boring. I don't Think Winky Lost the Fight, He Just didn't win it.
He should consider it i guess. He's never been beaten that badley in his career and been dominated like that.
But after 21 months out, he came back and fought the most avoided fighter in boxing. A man who is in the prime of his career, and throws non stop punching and has great stamina and a great chin in Paul Williams.
So that was a very hard comeback fight for Wright. I still think he very well could beat most Middlweight contenders etc Mora, Rubio, Griffin, and Duddy. But the worry is when he beat's those contenders he will get showdown fights with the elite again, but next time he fights a elite fighter he will be a lot less rusty and may put up a better performance.
Lets wait and see.
to me, yes he should retire, he showed glimpses of his brilliant defense, but his timing was off and his legs are not under him anymore....i dont want him to lose anymore, he did well for himself, he aint getting big fights, **** it........i ddint even want him to return but i have to support my idol........

I think he should take a fight against a contender at 160, maybe marco antonio rubio? Enrique Ornelas? someone to help him gain his confidence back with and then try and take a crack at someone like sturm, pavlik, or abraham. I say he beats sturm even in the state he's in.
winky is the same as he has been for the last couple of fights. he was just in with a really good fighter tonight.
160 is a really good division so I don't think he would do well against any of the top guys there but I can still see winky doing well against a lot of the top fighters at 154(other than p-will of course).
His fighting style isn't very physically demanding so I can see him fighting for another 5-6 years if he wanted to.
real talk
been sayin that for a while
I think he should, he took some vicious uppercuts in that fight. And he got pretty beat up, his face tells the whole story. I gave Winky Wright the first round and thought he was going to school Williams, but then Williams started to take over after the first round and basically schooled Williams.
Should Winky Wright retire and save himself another beating for nothing? Your thoughts?

NO
he was rusty but put up a decent fight
his Defense held it down for him, i hope his next fight he throws more punches
I think his D kept PWill from killing him, but towards the end it did start to crack around the 9th. All I know is Winky's hands are gonna be purple for a month after all those shots he blocked with'em.
It'd be nice if he retired but it doesn't sound like he will. So, hopefully he fights a limited opponent or at least not a freak or top level fighter.
You worded it better than me.
I think that winky might have 2 more good fights in him..... BUT he definatly has to pick a guy that ain't a top notch Champ like a Pavlick or Abraham. I think hes really hyped himself up with that no one wants to fight me BS.
I'd say because he obviously likes to make a lot of money - Yes he should retire because those big money fights are no longer there for him.
Even though he isn't done and the Williams fight was obviously the worst possible first fight back for him. It has left him with not many options out there until he was to drop down to 154 and challenge another up and comer like Angulo or Kirkland. Both of those fights are very very very hard fights for him at this stage in his career.
Winky wasn't so bad, I actually think he won three or four rounds. Winky would have beaten a lot of top tier fighters at 154 or 160 if he gave the performance he gave tonight.
Lets be honest here. Wright is 37 years old, has fought for two decades as a professional and hasn't had more than two fights since 2006, both of which he has lost. Tonight he barely won a round on the judges' scorecards and probably got hit with more punches than he has been hit throughout his whole career.
I think it's time to hang them up. Now I'm sure he won't but that's just my opinion.
The middleweight division is terrible. This fight actually probably improved Winky's appeal as an opponent, really if Winky can get a win or two under his belt I can see him getting a fight with any of the top guys. I would not fight Paul Williams again if I was Winky, but against a different type of fighter he might do better.
How much was it?
1 year and 262 days?
coming back and taking the most feared fighter from Welterweight -Jr middleweight - middleweight for 12 rounds?
he got beat up yes but you heard the man in the post fight interview, he's not done, he wants to continue.
Everyone who knows about boxing knew Williams was going to win that fight regardless..you hear stewart before the fight "This will be Winky's worst style match up of his career"
Good win for Paul and nice effort for Winky.
