So many fans have an opposing view on the victor..... I thought Oscar won the fight clearly. That Jerry Roth judged the fight badly and after watching the fight via hbo legendary nights a few months back, Jerry Roth really fuked up the scoring.
Just wanted to see how fellow boxing fans scored the fight. Please give reasons and rounds if you can to explain your reasons.
This is proberly the most controversial fight we've had in terms of scoring over the past decade.
Oscar's corner told him to run. All Oscar did was listen to his corner.
No they didn't. Why would a corner ever tell a fighter, "ok, run!" They told him to be careful and continue to box. He chose to run.
I actually thought it was a great performance by Oscar leading up to th 10th round.
But add the rounds up, which fighter would you give more rounds too?
I think Oscar was scared later on of that Trinidad left hook. When Trinidad started throwing the right to open up the left, i think Oscar thought '**** this, i'm staying away from that'!
Its true, i think Oscar won the fight, but he blew it and should have won more easily.
I don't think Oscar blew anything. He made a conscience decision to stop fighting and just move, move, move. Maybe in the last round that's acceptable. But the last how many? Like we don't score those? And contrary to what people say here, I don't think he swept the first 6-8 rounds either. Even HBO - Network of the Golden Boy - had it a one point fight. it was a close fight. One person wanted it more and deserved to win.
I have rewatched and rewatched this fight.
I give De La Hoya 9 of the 12 rounds. The thing here to know is that DLH had declarred this his retirement fight.
That means the promoters were loosing their
biggest cash cow. They had to do something to prolong the revenue stream. Trinidad just happened to be the person they chose to be the "next". A more recent occurence of this would be Dawson/Johnson. Johnson is the old man out. They will not put large sums of money behind him plus they already had a BIG fight with Tarver.
wtf are you talking about? When did De La Hoya announce his retirement after that fight or before it?
He was in his prime?
im pr and not ashamed 2 say that oscar won hands down, in my opinion he was the 1 2 expose tito b4 hopkins. i was shocked at the judging cause watching the fight i had that feeling tito was getting schooled, fans know the feeling at lease once when u know ur fighter is getting whooped. but yes tito lost

I've watched this fight a million times, and every time, I always feel Oscar was robbed out of his victory and no dout deserved the win.
Harold Lederman's scoring for this fight is pretty mind boggling also.
The only thing I will say, is that there was no dout De La Hoya deserved the win, but if he just could of stood his ground for the last few round's and threw a few more combinations, I think the win could of been sealed much more easier for him.
I haven't seen this fight in a long time, but I always believed that Trinidad pulled out the victory. I'd love to see this fight again, and score it today. Somebody mentioned something about Legendary Nights? What is that? I have every single channel there is, and I scour through my guide for boxing each week, and I never came across this. Does anyone have a link to DL the fight?
2nd fight I have no problem, but it seems this "clinic" you speak of didn't happen in the 1st fight. Huggin on to him and running for his life 8+Rounds isn't what I call a "clear" victory.
funny......
because the round i saw doing that was round 8 and a little bit of round 9.
please tell me about round 11? round 5? 1,2,4,6,7,10,,12?
yeah hyperion and your such a BITCH having me ignore because u can't take the heat.
you little self hating mexican punk!
chicano has me on the ignore list
but you talking about calderon which is 5 feet tall fighiting cazares 5'5. in those fight they look like they are in 2 different wieght classes. plus calderon has no power
Are you seriously "acting" dumb? I'm pretty sure you know which fight I'm talking about. If not, then you need serious help man.
LOL
calderon clearly won the 2 fights man. you need to let it go.
that "Runner" stunned cazares like twice in their first fight.
not to mention the clinic he put on him on the 2nd fight in which cazares was fighting with both feet on front. :D
it makes me chuckle a little bit when people say 'what does boxrec say...get over it!' when the poll clearly asks 'who did you have winning?'. you act like the judges decisions are law, espite the fact that they clearly screw up a lot.
while I did have De La Hoya winning(and I think everyone should, seeing as you judge fights on a ROUND BY ROUND BASIS), I think theres a myth behind the 'we have this fight in the bag, play it safe!' point of view. Trinidad always came on strong in the later stages of the fight, and DLH was probably tired from the work he put in in the later stages of the fight. he was running not solely because he had the fact 'already won', he was also running because he feared Trinidad's power and tenacity.
which all smart fighters should, but that fight was still just a real big dissapointment. so bad, in so many ways.
I badly wish DLH would have made some kind of an offensive stand in those last few rounds.
He was watching out for that left hook later on in the fight.
If Oscar ran and threw jabs from the ropes to keep Tito from distance, he proberly should have won some of the later rounds. He lost the rounds because he wernt throwing NO punches.
I have to agree. Even though he was way ahead, you give away the LAST round, not the last THREE rounds.
yep totally agree, but i still find it hard giving it to Trinidad. Oscar should have stolen the fight by a round.
Trinidad didnt show up till late in the fight; mainly when Oscar started fading.
