Didn't Gatti get mauled by Mayweather of all people and give up on the stool. Mayorga took a waaaay worse beating from a way stronger puncher in the form of Trinidad. Gatti wouldn't have survived that 5th round beatdown, and he clearly didn't have the power that Mayorga did either.
Yeah, that's why it was really stupid to drop his hands and allow Trinidad a few free shots at his head. That would put any fighter at a big disadvantage. And Mayorga did that pretty close to the start of the fight.
It didn't put him at THAT big of a disadvantage against Vernon.
After this performance I doubt GBP will let Canelo fight BJS. BJS is a much bigger Lara.
It's either BJS or Charlo in Canelo's future, which one will he be lucky to fight?
I also posted the a source that you didn't bother to look at, so again, stfu.
Uh, no, sorry, I never made any statements regarding anything outside of this quote. You wanted to say that blacks have more fast twitch, less slow twitch? Well, I don't see how that is the game changer in an endurance sport and if you want to quote something worth mentioning in your source, I'll happily address that too. What, you think this thread is my main priority? I read this as I refresh streams, so I'm not committing to your little link, sorry :(
Margarito by late round KO. A prime Margarito doesn't quit and he doesn't smoke. He does throw over 100 punches every round. Mayorga is a big puncher and a front runner. When he fights the better fighters he fades after 6 rounds and gets KOed. Trinidad cracked his chin first and KOed him. Then Oscar, Cotto and Mosley did likewise. Margarito's iron jaw survives the early Mayorga power and Margarito takes over in the late rounds and makes Mayorga quit.
So the Margarito that got his face caved in by Mosley in less than 9 rounds is the equivalent of a Trinidad who took almost as long to finish off Mayorga, in a weight class two divisions higher than Mayorga's prime weight? Without his gloves he's a bigger punching bag than Mayorga himself, and Mayorga definitely throws more volumes of punches than Mosley that are harder than Mosley's shots.
I'm talking about in general that black people more fast twitch muscle fibers
https://fitnessgenes.com/blog/natural-athletic-ability-of-african-americans/
You know this kind of doesn't help the argument. Fast twitch muscle fibers are good for, uh, lifting maximum loads or sprinting as fast as possible, not for endurance running or endurance sports. Boxing is, last I checked, more like a marathon than a sprint.
I hope he fights Cotto and ends the divas career, which he would.
Can you blame a guy for calling out canelo for basically fighting at 154 for most of his career? Fighting smaller men...
Apparently in Lemieux's mind, Canelo was not a "bigger man" either, but somehow a smaller man like Cotto is still big enough for him anyway.
Without loaded gloves? Mayorga beats him from rounds 1-4, 5-8 are Margarito territory, and 9-12 is when Mayorga gets his second wind and pummels Margarito again and wins by UD or TKO.
A large amount of blacks I see are limb-dominant while tall with unremarkable calve genetics. Whities in America are usually torso-dominant while also tall with big calves. Too bad the whities are fat and out of shape damn near the majority of the time, otherwise they outsize blacks most of the time. For boxing, blacks have an edge as being bigger/fatter doesn't matter when there's weight classes where good leverages matter most.
Or maybe it says a lot about how overated GGG's power is considering he failed to drop a welterweight even once
Apparently blowing out his eye socket and nearly blinding him is a sign of how overrated GGG's power is because he didn't knock him down. Can we get this guy to Vegas to show us how to score a fight?
hurt Canelo who was rocked by Mayweather and Kirkland.
Funny I don't remember Canelo backing up into the ropes almost every round vs Mayweather and Kirkland. Clearly was "rocked" by them.
GGG had enough power to make Canelo not listen to his coaches advice to stand in the middle. He would go to the ropes every time, so GGG obviously had something keeping Canelo hesitant.
Canelo landed clean, with some beautiful shots
I recall GGG landing his own shots that put a stop to those clean Canelo shots. What could that mean?
and GGG ate them up, so we should just ignore this because GGG didnt get hurt and carried on walking forwards like the terminator?
Kind of? It's just one factor people could vote on, but I would say backing up excessively is not good for any fighter. Ask ODH about his fight with Trinidad and how that went. Of course ODH didn't have the corrupt scorecards that day, but still.
The problem with GGG is, he wasnt landing clean, he was hitting gloves, being busier doesnt mean you should be scored a round...With him being the bigger guy, that was to be expected
Looking at the swelling on the right side of Canelo's face/eye and taking that statement of not "landing clean" at face value... Wow, GGG can bruise people up with blocked punches and pity pat jabs, because his jab is actually stronger than Canelo's uppercuts! No wait, maybe GGG was landing cleaner than people give him credit for after all?
It was shoddy work from GGG, he dint look sharp...very untidy. At times he looked confused dazzled by Canelos ability to land on him clean
Considering he was fighting a guy notorious for his counter punching and was walking into him the whole fight, is it a surprise that Canelo would land one punch in every exchange they had on the ropes where GGG landed more than one punch? Canelo is no "smaller man" either, he walks at a higher weight than GGG. Of course, being "bigger" doesn't matter vs GGG, as Jacobs figured out. I dare say that Canelo was roided up Mosley style and lost Mosley style where his big size does not equate to big devastating punching power.
Chavez sr had Canelo winning. I guess he's not credible anymore?
I think the accumulation of punches has manifested itself in Chavez's mind. A lot of punches.
He also landed his power punches a respectable 42% of the time.
GGG landed his power punches a mediocre 32%.
Yes, the certified counter-puncher who was backing up throwing less punches landed a higher connect percentage versus a guy coming into him almost the entire fight throwing punches every moment. Who had the higher jab connect? Aren't "boxers" good at jabbing? ;)
losing the final championship rounds
Lol Canelo had a rally in the beginning of the 10th. Golovkin immediately put a stop to it and proceeded to back Canelo up with ease. All three judges gave that round to Canelo. You would be an excellent LV judge as well.
AJ wins in the speed and workrate departments which are the same things that gave the win to Parker. He isn't going to sit like Statue Joyce in front of Zhang or lunge in off balance like Wilder. If anything, AJ can land something big on Zhang no harder than Zhang can, and has already knocked him down.
Hrgovic does have a strong chin, but his attitude in the ring is questionable. Anytime things don't go his way, he seems like he wants out of the fight. He's lucky that Zhang gases badly, that allowed Hrgovic to survive the fight. Joshua has always been chinny, any clean shot by a decent puncher and he does the stanky legs and needs several rounds to recover.
A solid attitude was never one of Dubois' strength during adversity either, but he changed that. Hrgovic walked out on his two feet so he still has enough left to make something of himself. I'd argue Joyce damaged Dubois more than Dubois damaged Hrgovic based off the numbers and trauma.
Well he should fight his mandatory probably and not the guy 3 weight classes down. If Canelo vs Charlo is a PPV success he might never fight Benavidez.
Because they have no body fat. If you don't have visible abs at 180, you can forget about being a competitive 160lb fighter. You'd probably have to drop down to welterweight, maybe less. There are also practices called where you literally trick your body into pissing itself dry and immediately rehydrating after getting on the scale. With boxing that's risky but keep in mind that Hearns was a complete weight bully and most of his success comes from dealing with smaller people at 147.
He's like a supersized McClellan with less skill but a more destructive right hand and less reliable left hook. They both had good authoritative long jabs too.
No, it's actually the opposite. Canelo is a vulture and picks guys that display weakness or are old.
That doesn't mean Crawford would be suicidal and go out Kell Brook style if he has doubt.
I’d imagine the style matchup alone is more problematic here. Not that I have watched Andrade in years. Longer, heavier guy who likes to run and fight negatively. Why Wallin over Gassiev was such an easy pick. Short punching bag who looks for a haymaker vs a much longer and heavier guy who knows how to maintain range. That was an upset somehow.
Andrade has a massive height advantage but apparently the same reach. His more compact ape index might make it easy for him to land short punches on the inside despite being so tall.
