I'm a Gatti gal, love my Arturo, but Mayorga was a monster puncher. He's my seond favorite fighter. Can't say who would win, but it would be one hell of a fight! :boxing:
Yeah, that's why it was really stupid to drop his hands and allow Trinidad a few free shots at his head. That would put any fighter at a big disadvantage. And Mayorga did that pretty close to the start of the fight.
It didn't put him at THAT big of a disadvantage against Vernon.
Mayorga wasn't a technically good fighter. He had a good chin, good power and was explosive @ 147.

Remember when Mayorga intentionally dropped his hands and dared Trinidad to take free shots at him? I think it was the first round, though it could’ve been round 2. Tito took those free shots...it was 2 or 3 clean, hard shots to the head. Mayorga had a good beard at that time. His stupidest mistake in that fight was allowing Trinidad to unload bombs on him...That right there gave Tito the upper hand. If Mayorga used his brain more he could’ve been much better than he turned out to be.

Anybody who thinks Gatti would beat Mayorga in both their primes is a troll, or from Gatti's background.
Gatti would get knocked out. Too easy to hit and Mayorga was a hard puncher @ 47.
Have to agree with this, Mayorga would put Gatti in hospital.
Didn't Gatti get mauled by Mayweather of all people and give up on the stool. Mayorga took a waaaay worse beating from a way stronger puncher in the form of Trinidad. Gatti wouldn't have survived that 5th round beatdown, and he clearly didn't have the power that Mayorga did either.

I remember Vernon walking into the ring rapping we ready vs Ricardo Mayorga, he got knocked out in what? 4 rounds or so? Then in the rematch he simply got outbrawled. This is the best Mayorga we've ever seen. Vernon was the man beating Shane twice imo he was all class. But el Matador fights like more of a el Toro lol. He became a good litmus test for big names in his career, mostly coming up short though most of the time.
Gatti on the other hand was the blood and guts warrior aka the human highlight reel. There's nothing more I can say, the dude was a machine. I remember he went up to 147 to fight Oscar but it didn't go down the way they planned it.
This fight would be interesting, especially with buddy McGirt in the corner of Arturo. If I had to pick one I would lean more towards Gatti. But Mayorga was no joke. He looked pretty well against Corey Spinks in his next fight. This is what you call a pick em fight.

I’d pick Mayorga. He was the bigger man and probably had a better chin and harder punch. We know that Mayorga would turn it into a brawl even if Gatti attempted to keep it a boxing contest, because Arturo almost always ended up brawling.
