I am absoloutely staggered that people are not voting for Joe Louis. Joe beat 6 men that held the undisputed heavyweight championship and reigned for nearly twelve years(a record).
If we judge athletes on accomplishments then Joe is the best.
I can't believe what I am hearing. Leonard took the early rounds and Hagler just didn't make up enough rounds, even though he finished strongly.
I am a huge fan of both fighters but Hagler must attract fanatics, rather than fans.
Decision 100% right.
Hatton has an excellent chance in this fight. He is a very busy fighter who will pressure Tszyu and switch from body to head constantly as long as the fight lasts. As someone else mentioned, when he was floored by Eamon Magee he was able to change his strategy mid-fight which suggest he has a good boxing brain, but Magee is a slick southpaw counter-punching machine and his style bears no resemblance to Tszyu's.
I take Hatton to win on points. Tszyu's innactivity will hurt him and I think the Sharmba Mitchell result really flaterred Tszyu as Mitchell was looking past his best in several previous fights (and yes I am aware that Hatton ducked out of fighting Sharmba when the opportunity arose)
Hatton UD 12 Tszyu
Consider the facts:
Tyrell Biggs L TKO 7 Tyson-L TKO 3 Lewis
Frank Bruno L TKO 5/3 Tyson-L TKO 7 Lewis
Razor Ruddock L TKO 7 Tyson-L TKO 2 Lewis
Frans Botha L TKO 5 Tyson-L TKO 2 Lewis
Andrew Golota NC 3 Tyson-L KO 1 Lewis
Definitely Lewis!
Judah deserves respect for taking the Spinks rematch for peanuts (in boxing terms). So many fights don't get made because of many fighters inflated opinion of their worth.
He has grown up since the childish tantrums post Tszyu. He is consistantly entertaining and whilst I still don't think he can beat Tszyu, I bet he would jump at the chance of a rematch.
I used to love watching Chavez when I was young, but I just rechecked their respective records and De La Hoya has the better credentials.
Both hall of famers.
Chavez by SD if they had met at lightweight.
I have no pics but the cuts were hideous. Huge gash below the eye, eye lid gashed "through and through" to quote the fight doctor: ie, all the way through.
Two ways of looking at this.
Eamon Magee was very effective countering from the ropes in the early rounds against Hatton, and like Cotto he is a super slick counter puncher.
Equally Cotto looked uncomfortable aginst the ropes against Abdulaev, and that is where Hatton will inevitably put him.
I suspect that Hatton's extra size and relentless pressure will earn him a decision if they ever meet (which I serioulsy doubt).
Benitez beat Duran by UD right before he fought Hearns. I thought he did very well against Hearns but I think Tommy broke his right hand in the fight. Benitez is up there with Pernell Whittaker and Willie Pep as the most hard to hit fighters ever.
Hatton is a good guy and good for the sport of boxing. He does not belong in the ring with Tszyu however
Hatton won every round against Vince Philips and Ben Tackie. In which way does he not belong in the ring with Tszyu.
Collectively, europe as a whole has managed to produce poor fighters and give them tremendous amounts of hype. Hence the coining "Eurotrash".
I don't like the term "eurotrash". Vitali is dominant, Naz beat every american he fought, Sturm "beat" De La Hoya.
I rarely go out on a limb, and even more rarley pick an underdog but I am confident this time. I look forward to the fight.
Don't read anything into Hatton's condition. He always bloats between fights, but it won't affect his fitness come fight night. Hatton will come in superfit and set a torrid pace from the first bell.
Winner by UD Ricky Hatton
It is only fair to rank fighters on achievement, not potential. Eric has had a fabulous career so far and he isn't 30 yet. Right now Sanchez is higher but that could all change.
Gatti - no, too easy for Tszyu to hit with his potent right hand.
Cotto - maybe, if he can stand up to occasional bombs,
Mayweather - yes, easy point wins.
I know I am in a tiny minority of people, but I am confident Hatton will cause an upset. The Mitchell result flatters Kostya, and 3 rounds in 2 years will not prepare him for the torrid pace Hatton will set.
I'm not trying to detract from Tszyu's acheivments, he has had a superb career.
