When I was a bit younger like 12-13 like a few minutes b4 tyson fought lewis, my bro was sayin how mike tyson has the harder punch but lewis has a reach advantage...
but now that I started watchin boxin for a year and from what I've seen Lewis has got the harder punch but Tyson was just aggressive and had the hand speed as well...
What do you guys think?
I would say that Lewis's hardest punch, the big right hand is harder than anything Tyson can throw. However Tyson throws very hard and with bad intentions with every punch in the book.
If you look at the Ruddock fights fights with Tyson and Lewis you can see how devastating Lewis big right hand is. Tyson nailed Ruddock alot with big shots (knocking him down 3 times in the second fight) and he still went the distance with Tyson. Yet one big Lewis right hand had him down for the count.
One of the times Tyson knocked Ruddock down he went down smiling. When I saw Ruddock go down from Lewis' big right hand I said to myself "well he aint smiling now."
When the question is asked "Who hits harder".....I'd like to think it's not about breaking it down to who's punches were heavier or whatever.
If a guy knocks a higher # of people out because his fist travels through the air faster than the guy who has more of a thud.....then he is the harder puncher.
I don't think Thomas Hearns was a heavy handed guy.....but he knocked out so many because his right hand was a lightning bolt.
There were probably a # of guys in/around his weight class who could hit a heavy bag harder, make the mitts "pop" more....but when it came to laying dudes out, Hearns was the man.
Therefore, he's the harder puncher
Ya I agree with that to
Power in boxing comes from speed, accuracy, timing, and balance
but power helps to...
and landin a shot he dont see comin hurts a lot more
for sayin Hearns was the man I'm gonna give u karma
The question is not who is the most efficient knockout puncher. The question is who punches with the most sheer kinetic force behind their shots and the answer is Lewis.
YES!!!!! That was the answer I wanted to hear! lol

Logic logic and more logic, karma for you!

Ruddock was only knocked down three times cos the ref stopped it, i`m sure Lewis would have been more than happy to nail him to the canvas had the ref let it continue!
Kimmy, get back on the little yellow bus and put your helmet back on
i was being SARCASTIC, we all know that there weren't 15 KD's, try to think outside of the box you call a life once and a while
Let's see, Lennox KO'd Tyson in 8, but Tyson was cracked out, and Tyson knocked down Ruddock like fifteen times, Lennox could only knock him down thrice....
this thread sux, LEWIS BEAT TYSON, WHO CARES WHO HITS HARDER?!?!

Lewis punches harder, no question. The reason for this is that Tyson throws more punches ( in his prime ) and is faster, it gets to the opponent better. Tyson`s one punch finishes were against poor fighters ( Botha, Saverse, an old Holmes ) but Lewis has a harder single shot. Look at their common opponents. Lewis hurt Holyfield, Tyson could not dent him, although Tucker was past his best it was evident Lewis had the more effect. Bruno`s ventures were quite simular for both Tyson and lewis but look at what Lewis` power did to Golota and Tyson although hurt Golota didn`t have the same effect. Need i mention the Razor Ruddock fights. Lewis the harder one punch by a mile!

Lewis twice dropped the strong-chinned Tony Tucker .....Tyson never hurt Tucker in their fight.
tucker had past his prime and all big guys can punch if you stand still.
Consider the facts:
Tyrell Biggs L TKO 7 Tyson-L TKO 3 Lewis
Frank Bruno L TKO 5/3 Tyson-L TKO 7 Lewis
Razor Ruddock L TKO 7 Tyson-L TKO 2 Lewis
Frans Botha L TKO 5 Tyson-L TKO 2 Lewis
Andrew Golota NC 3 Tyson-L KO 1 Lewis
Definitely Lewis!

That just isn't true. Tyson landed his hardest punches flush on his opponents chin, and it still usually took several knockdowns to end his fights. Lewis usually went soft at first and then unleashed his best stuff when he saw a big opening. It's true that Lewis would land a lot of punches on his opponents prior to his knockouts, but they weren't his best shots and they didn't land flush like Tyson's did. If Lewis had Tyson's speed and accuracy (as well as his aggressive nature) he would have knocked out nearly everyone he fought. Tyson was not even the hardest puncher of his own era. He was just the quickest and most accurate. He had power that was well above average, but it was his quickness and pinpoint accuracy that made him so lethal.
For one punch power it go's to Tyson. His left hook was a harder punch then Lewis's straight right or uppercut. Rahmans face got busted up so bad due to jab after jab and the number of punches thrown. Tysons opponents didn't get a chance to get that busted up because he ended it so quick.
Tyson punches are more damaging because of the speed and accuracy of them, that makes up for him having less raw power ( which he does not lack a whole lot). Tyson has well over 25 first round KO's in what 50 fights? Thats unprecedented.
