If Morales beats Manny Pacquiao, Is he a level above The Great Salvador Sanchez...? I read at another site that Morales-Pacquiao is bigger than Sanchez-Gomez!! I really don't know much about Sanchez except that he is upthere with Chavez as two of the Great Mexican Boxers of all time! With Chavez being number one and Sanchez number two. People say Sanchez became a legeng by beating Gomez. Can the same be said of Morales if he beats Pacquiao???
Any opinions? :boxing:

I don't think so bro.but clearly a step in the right direction.
Nelson did stop Gomez the all time great. LOL
You could argue Gomez was not in his prime anymore. When Sal fought him, there was nobody better than Wilfredo, or so they said.
It's a matter of opinions, and what do you consider an all-time great. The Professor was great in his own right, and he was up there for a long time. A first ballot hall of famer. But can he be compared to Pep, Saddler, Sanchez? I'm not sure.
I know he has a TKO win over Azumah Nelson but would the outcome be the same if Azumah had more fights. He had 12 or 13 fights where as Sanchez had over 40. Either way Sanchez was one hell of a fighter. Damn shame the way he died.

Dustin Diamond, also known as "screech" from the hit tv show "Saved by the Bell",has been chosen to play Salvador Sanchez in the made for TV movie known as:
"El Screecho De Salvador".

The professor was great for his time, not all-time great. A hall of famer for sure, but in the same category of MAB and EM. All three were/are great, they are just not so great as to deserve an "all-time" great status, a la Gomez, Argüello, JCC, Hawk, etc.
Danny Lopez? Gimme a break.

Nelson not an all-time great?
Are you kidding?
Zoom Zoom deserves to be mentioned with other all time great for sure. At least IMO.
I agree that Morales can line up with those great Mexican Legends like Chaves and Sanches.... up to that line only....but beating Pacquiao? I doubt so!
Sal beat 2 all time greats, one in Gomez who is regarded as the best ever at 122 AND he beat Nelson. Oh yeah, Danny Lopez isn't chop liver.

yeah well I believe he won the first one. (We are obviously biased for the other fighter). The second won I feel also belonged to him. How do you win a fight by fighting in spurts? Morales pressed the action in both of the first two. How do you answer to being hit that many more times? In both those fights EM out punched him, he was busier and more accurate. I mean he hit him more at just as high a percentage with harder punches.
Barrera beat the Prince, and Morales three times, I think he might have a better record than Sanchez, dont let his loss against Pacman cloud your judgement, Morales would have to beat another great fighter even if he wins against Pacman to make up for losing to Barrera three times, just to get near Sanchez.
I feel that MAB lost the first two fights(second one badly) and that the third it looked like Morales didn't even want to be there. Losing 3 times it is not only an overstatement but a stupid statement. In both of the first two fights not only did he land more but won way more rounds. Just because MAB fought in spurts doesn't make him the winner of either of the first two fights. I admitt Morales looked terrible in his last outing but the fact is he lost at most 2 of the 3 fights, and I still only have one loss on EMs record. So losing 1 out of 3 times to a legend is bad? wow your intellegence is impressive. Sanchez beat 1 all time great. But how many champions has morales dethroned. How many Contenders has he knocked off the list? My point is that he is very good and will show you once again against pacman.
What puts Salvador above all other Mexican fighters is that he beat (correction, obliterated) an all-time great, something no one (not even JCC) has ever done.
What ever happen to Mauricio...?
He is one of the guys that at the other site was saying that a Morales Victory this coming March 19 would put Morales above Sanchez!
No te escondas Maury! :D
but
Yeah but in my opinion by age 23 he didn't have time to be effected by the wars he had early on. Morales has been threw wars and is starting to be effected by them. I mean by 23 you don't have a chance have a bad fight. I mean my only point is that you could say all you want he never had a chance to have a bad fight in his career, and what Morales has had one by 28 with prolly just as complete a resume. The big question is what if. What if he had a longer career and met some tougher fighters. You can't compare them both because Morales would get criticized for fighting a bum. Sanchez did fight some many in fact, Morales takes hard fight after hard fight. Now we don't want to see a fight wasted on anyone, Morales waits for the next prospect or champ and destroys them. I mean MAB and him have a rivalry and in my opinion he won the first two and had nothing left to prove against him, it didn't even seem as though Morales showed up to the third fight till the 7th round. My point is boxing is different these days, instead of fight after fight, it is well lets wait for a good fighter to come around instead of waste our time. His career ended so soon he didn't really have a chance to get exposed for some of the weakness he might have had. Because his career was cutshort maybe it's the opposite maybe Sanchez may have never accomplished as much as Morales. I'm not saying he's better simply saying that it's two eras and two fighters, and you can't simply cut Morales down because he had one bad showing after so many good ones.
Erik Morales doesn't compare to Salvador Sanchez. I have to admit I was one of those guys who was saying that Morales was better than Barrera, that Morales is one of the best fighters of all time, and that he should be p4p #3 behind Hopkins and Mayweather. It always seemed to befuddle me that they always had him at 7 or some shit. But after seeing his performance against Barrera last November, I admit that I was wrong. And alot of people, particularly Boxingtalk.com, were gloating about how they were right. Sanchez' portfolio far outweighs Morales'.
Wow all this credit for Salvador and he died at 23, if im not mistaken?....I gotta get some of his fights.
Sal was the total package, not your "typical" Mexican fighter. Excellent footwork and head movement with a chin. Sal had good power, was a good counter puncher and accurate as well. Sal looked so relaxed in the ring and always had the same look on his face. He did this thing were he'd touch his gloves and proceed to kick ass shortly after. Sanchez was a GREAT fighter!
Favorite Sal fights,
Sanchez vs. Gomez
Sanchez vs. Lopez 1 and 2
Sanchez vs. Nelson
yep, absoutely not, as good as Morales is hes lost out on two of his defining fights and hasnt come close to dominating his division. i would say Erik could get out-boxed by JMM and out-brawled by MAB and maybe Pacquiao too.
Salvador was certainly a legend. Morales is not on his level but he's definitely good enough to be mentioned in the same sentence. I don't think Erik could do anything to make a case that he's on JCC & Sal's league outside of winning a belt or 2 at 135...and beating Pacquiao. Morales could certainly make his own legend.
indeed. :fing02:
