Abbie didn't throw more because he was covering up. Even though Miguel didn't wobble him, Abbie knows a good punch and respects it. He's only been down once in his pro career (17 fights) and never in the amateurs (over 300 fights). That shows a very good chin as far as I'm concerned.
Please, styles make fights. Cotto doesn't fight the same way as KT fights. While Ricky was effective against Kostya, he still doesn't have what it takes to fight a good, accurate counterpuncher like Miguel Cotto or Floyd Mayweather. The fact remains that Ricky is still a club fighter. He comes to you, applies pressure, has little defense, and relies on his workrate to tire you out. Any fighter that can side step him, counter, use his jab, and work on the inside will have an advantage over that type of fighter. Kostya was just too old to be able to do so effectively.
As for Cotto's power and not hurtin Abbie, see my above response.
I never questioned Abbie's chin. He took enough clean shots to know that he could handle Cotto's power and should have taken a few risks to get his shots off.
Hatton's already beaten a good counterpuncher in Magee. Cotto is far from elusive and he's blatantly too slow to be able to dance around Hatton and pot-shot him. Hatton has quicker feet and hands and will corner him without too much trouble. Cotto has looked uncomfortable every time he's been put under pressure and if he curls up in a ball on the ropes like he did in the Abbie fight then it's game over.
I'm not sure about that. If Abdulaev had thrown more punches instead of just walking around with his hands up it would have given Cotto a taster of what Hatton would be like, but they're in different leagues really in terms of speed, tenacity and skill.

doesnt seem to me that Cotto has enormous power..he hit Abullaev with some good shots..and didnt wobble him or even get close..he could probably out box Hatton but...hatton's pressure would discomfort Cotto a bit..unlike Abullaev..Hatton will actually throw punches when pressuring..and not just throw after Cottos done comboing

Um....how can u say that cotto would humiliate Hatton?? Did you not see the way hatton had his way with KT?? Hatton would give any fighter problems in his divsion!! But it would be a great fight!
Well I of course of agree that Abdullaev is level below where Hatton is as a fighter the Ring Magazine 140 pound champ and linear champ. But he is a pretty tenacious pressure fighter that never relents. A style that Hatton sometimes fights in. Cotto did very well against that style. However Abdullaev is limited compared to Hatton, he only punches while on the inside, but he does to his credit never relent from coming forward. But he walks in without throwing punches unlike Hatton.
He probably fights that way to conserve energy, Abdullaev is old.
I think Abdulaev was pretty decent when he did let his hands go and he did stiffen Cotto's legs with a hook in the early rounds. He could have made things pretty uncomfortable for Cotto if he'd had a higher workrate.
Yeah I know that but he is a decent well skilled pressure fighter. And Cotto reacted quite well to that style. I did agree that Abdullaev is limited compared to Hatton. The only point I really wanted to make was that the Abdullaev fight was good experience for Cotto is he is going to be fighting guys like Hatton in the future.
indeed, it was good for cotto. but he's not ready just yet for hatton's kind of fight.
abdullaev doesnt have hatton's stamina, chin, aggression, bodypunching, or hatton's power. cotto might not have a problem with hatton's bodypunching or stamina, but hatton's chin, aggression and power will force cotto to the ropes and cotto wont be able to react effectively.

Two ways of looking at this.
Eamon Magee was very effective countering from the ropes in the early rounds against Hatton, and like Cotto he is a super slick counter puncher.
Equally Cotto looked uncomfortable aginst the ropes against Abdulaev, and that is where Hatton will inevitably put him.
I suspect that Hatton's extra size and relentless pressure will earn him a decision if they ever meet (which I serioulsy doubt).
You know one thing about Cotto. If he ever were to fight Hatton. The Abdullaev fight gave him experience that would be critical against a fighter like Hatton.

He Would Make Him Pay For Coming Forward And Then Cotto Has A Size Advantage And Could Fight Going Backwards.hatton Will Be A Bloody Mess.
It wasnt long ago Cotto was fighting lightweight, i've even seen him carrring a little extra weight at light welter too, Hattons a very big and strong light welter, there's no way Cotto has a size or strength advantage. Hatton even out muscled super human strength Tszyu.
I was unsure about this fight until recently but i'm convinced Hatton would win, based on the last few fights Cotto would get busted up.
I like cotto alot and truly believe its basically a pick em but i was not impressed with his last performance very much at all and i would lean towards hatton on a late stoppage or points win. I think his strength late in the fight and his pace would be too much for cotto
if/when they do fight i can only see one winner and thats cotto. he will be too big and strong for hatton, i ilke hatton a lot and think he is a very good boxer but i think cotto would win a UD points vicory. hatton would have a sick workrate but he would not be able to push cotto around the way he did tzsyu, cotto comes in weighin 154lbs or above on fight night so there is no way he will get pushed around by hatton.
If Cotto fights like he did against Abdulaev he has little chance of getting past 8. Abdulaev had him covering up on the ropes without even throwing punches and he didn't fire back when he was under the limited pressure that Abdulaev applied. Hatton would be his biggest nightmare based on that performance and would have a field day on the inside judging by how open Cotto was to hooks and uppercuts. Hatton looks to have a decent advantage in handspeed too, I was amazed how slow most of Cotto's punches were although he did put them together nicely and I was impressed with his jab.
Cotto would ko Hatton i have no doubt in my mind. Cotto would not be pushed around and he does his best work in side and Hatton is there to be hit. I have no doubt in my mind that Cotto would catch Hatton with those loping punches and put him on his ass. Cotto is also starting to show better movement in every fight.

I love to watch both of these fighters. Both are exciting and give boxing pundits exactly what they require.
It's a tough call, but I feel that Cotto will ultimitely, be too strong for Hatton.
He will lure Hatton in while 'retreating' to the ropes and counter in combos up & down. Examine both fighter's faces. Hatton has been tagged quite a lot and will be susceptible to Cotto's pinpoint, power punching. Cotto is one of a few boxers who are able to punch powerfully going back or forward.
That said....there has to be a loser in this fight and I for one, won't derive much pleasure in seeing either one lose. It should have the makings of a great fight though!
This is one fight that I won't be betting on....just sit back and watch!
Cotto is the next big thing, he will humiliate hatton if they ever fought, cotto too strong and skilled and he looks a little intimidating too.
thats what people said about kostya tszyu.
