I'm watching the Box Nation broadcast, and -- through eight rounds -- I have Chino winning all eight.
Why?
Because of bludgeoning, high volume power punches to Floyd Mayweather's center mass.
Important: Marcos Maidana DOES NOT have to land clean to do blood-vessel-breaking damage. On top of that, HE THROWS A LOT OF PUNCHES!
However, Mayweather MUST land clean to have success. He was landing clean, crisp counters and he still wasn't very effective. I think that's because he didn't let his hands go enough, but that's also a credit to Marcos' head movement, footwork, and getting Mayweather's respect by punching him hard.
I'm impressed at Mayweather's ability to absorb punishment without showing signs of being hurt. But that could be partly due to him paying Maidana extra to wear sparring gloves.
Sadly, Money's pot shots weren't stopping Maidana AT ALL, plus Maidana was moving out of the way of them. Maidana's punches to the body appeared to really slow down Mayweather's punch output, and they also took off some of the steam on his pot shots.
A poster here said before the fight, "A pot-shot-to-a-clinch strategy isn't going to be enough to stop Maidana."
Boy, was he right. Mayweather got his ass kicked. I am genuinely surprised he took all those hard punches without getting knocked out. I underestimated his toughness since before this fight.
Props to Marcos for coming out energentic, violent, smart, and disrespectful. He really got Mayweather's respect with an all-out assault in the first half of the fight. And I feel he won. Watch the match as a street fight and it's abundantly clear who really won. Mayweather never seriously gained momentum of took the play away from Maidana.
