Hell... Angel Garcia said that Danny was pissing blood and deaf from the punishment he received in the Matthysse fight.
Did Matthysse take something out of Garcia? I know we hate to think about it. But this is boxing. Punches on the chin. Right hands are bad for your health. Brain damage and sh*t.

No. Danny's a counter puncher. He looks good against aggressive fighters that are going to open up and make mistakes. This is why he can look impressive against Matthysse or Khan. But, when he gets into the ring with a reserved fighter that likes to pump a job and outwork him in the clinches, he looks really ordinary and confused. Bad stylistic match up. Pressure fighters with volume give Mauricio trouble. Danny doesn't have a super high punch output or relentless aggression. I'm pretty sure golden boy threw him in there with Herrera thinking he was just going to blow him out the water. Then, three rounds in, you start to realize Danny's having way more trouble than you would have thought.
I've actually been thinking about this all day but didn't wanna post anything cause I'll just be called bitter and a hater.

It's funny how the Matthysse fight has suddenly become this titanic struggle in which Garcia was pushed to hell and back, as opposed to a fairly clear decision win that most had it being six months ago. :lol1:
Garcia didn't look sharp... at all!
He looked like he didn't know how to fight. He looked like someone who is not a natural-born fighter.
That would have something to do with the fact that he was in there with a slick operator with a really good jab, and not some limited puncher that telegraphs his punches and doesn't do much to set them up.
Hindsight is twenty-twenty. I agree with the posters before me... Yes. Garcia won the fight but for a price... The Matthysse fight likely took some championship-level fights off of Danny's career, I would think. Same with what Marcos Maidana did to Adrien Broner.
Bernard Hopkins said,
"Broner's loss to Maidana took three years off his career... He's in the second half of his career now. The second half."
I voted yes. I don't know for a fact that Matthysse took something out of danny but after watching him fight tonight I think it's very likely. Garcia seemed gunshy and hesitant against a light puncher. He is probably lucky he wasn't fighting Matthysse in a rematch.
He was a loser tonight. Damage control.
We all have opinions. none more valid than the other. I have no agenda and have no reason to do any "damage control".
I think thatsexactly what he is. Hes not great at any one thing but hes kinda good at everything and sometimes hes just good at the very thing that foils the opponent hes facing on that given night. Hes a winner.. I do believe he pulled it off tonight, barely but I believe he did. Hes not going to be undefeated for long but hes a solid steady fighter.

Interesting post. So do you agree with Emanual Steward's assessment, "He's a good basic fighter."

Garcia looked identical to the garcia I first saw on HBO years ago. Hes never going to look dominate in fights or flashy. Garcia finds a way to win and thats what sets him apart. He looked better against Machine than any of his other fights to be honest he gives as good as he takes, the better you are, the better he will be. Hes just a winner. and hes going to be a tough out for anybody.

those bombs Lucas landed on Garcia were scary.
Looking back...
I don't blame DSG for not wanting to jump right back in fray with Matthysse.
The fact that he gave fans the first fight is enough. Too much brain trauma. A rematch would be cool though.
I wouldn't doubt it. Matty hit Danny with some BOMBS in their fight (and to Danny's credit, he ate them mothaf.ckers)
He did eat those shots. Helluva chin but right hands and left hooks on the chinny chin chin are bad for your health.
I mean, let's not disconnect ourselves from Danny... He was deaf after the Matthysse fight. That's not good.

Nah...you can chalk it up to Herrera just being a very awkward and crafty opponent. You can tell just from watching him that most fighters will have a very difficult time getting a bead on him.
I feel bad for Herrera, as this fight will not get him more big fights. It will just make him more avoided now.
Agreed. Danny fought like he always fights, same with Herrera.
Looked like his normal self to me. I give all credit to Herrera. Underrated fighter who may not be the fastest, strongest most powerful, fluid guy out there but he prepares well and clearly does a great job of studying his opponent and making subtle adjustments.
Looked to me that Herrera did his homework. I hope he gets another shot at the big time, he deserves it.

I was thinking the same thing, good thread.
