But then he took some losses (Dawson, for instance) which showed he was no longer a top fighter. Then began a little run of beating these young fighters, some with titles, who were clearly in over their heads and just not that good. And somehow with every win some posters were ready to call him the GOAT or greatest of this era. Glad that's all over but nevertheless he is a true ATG and one of the greatest fighters I ever had the priviledge of watching.
Yea, I always had mixed feeling about Hopkin's late run. On one hand, I love stories of those who overcome and always had a soft spot for the "badass old man" character. On the other hand, I didn't like that it had become a smash and grab. I feel the same way about Wlad. Yea, tremendous skill and intelligence in the chessmatch sort of way. But, not the sort of thing I find particularly entertaining.
But, that's what's great about boxing. It takes all types. The chess players, the barbarians, and everyone in-between. Would be pretty 2-dimensional without that so I really appreciate all these guys.
Na, you just get owned.
Our own discussion went like:
"GGGs opponents definitely worse than Wards"
to
"I think they are on par" (after I explained who Paul Smith is)
to
"Na, I'm not gonna vote in that poll he just put up cos it's embarrassing."
Holy shyt, I don't even have to prove it, they prove it themselves^.
If you have to change subjects when cornered, make up things, and follow people into other threads, you've failed at life. I'll never understand how some people find that kind of behavior to be an enjoyable thing to do with their time.
I don't have time for it so don't be upset if I don't reply after this. Gotta put you on the Bando list for a while.
Well someone posting that some fighter is robotic and will lose without even knowing the fighter is not very smart. That is not a prediction. I can say I think someone will win or lose, but to say that the reason why I think that is that the fighter is limited and I havent even watched him shows bias. Racial bias probably. He must be a fl0mo. Typical fl0mo.
I don't think Kov is robotic but if someone else does, whatever. I'm not going to get upset about it. I really wish people weren't so quick to throw race into the conversation as a means of dismissing someone's opinion. People do that to me all the time and it's bizarre because they usually get it wrong (not you, others).

What have you expected?... and they like to pose as condescending "experts" around here...
Man, say what you want about him but Hopkins was a real fighter. Dude had no reason at all to fight Kovalev. If not for him having the guts to do so, Sergey would probably be stuck in the same situation Golovkin is.
All the props to the Alien.
He was terrified he met someone who would negate his fouling and cheating.
Also a little side note Hopkins should have been stopped in this fight by TKO the referee didn't do his job.
Indeed. I'm not a fan of what his style turned into in the latter years but the man has brass balls. I guess spending your amateur years training in prison will do that to you.
I never was a fan of Hopkins but I always respected him and I found his style a pleasure to watch. Even in his later years (post-36), watching him operate in the ring and his gameplan unfold was like a great movie plot.

Naw, you missed what I was saying. He thought he was embarrassing you when he actually looked the fool himself digging up ancient posts and trying to mock people over a prediction. I'm the first person to say, "I was wrong" when I predict incorrectly and I don't think there's any shame in it. It's just a game.

^lol. :D. These guys who are only here to support one fighter, or rather, one 'type' of fighter seem to go to great lengths. I'm sure you've disagreed with these guys and noticed they NEVER quit until they have the last word. I've put a personal 3 reply limit on myself because I can't keep bickering with these freaks all day.

Hopkins will school him the same way he did Kelly Palvik! there is a reason why he took the fight!!!!
i dont understand why people get all hyped up over a stare down!!! it doesnt mean anything once they get into the ring!!! i think hopkins has been around way too long to being get intimidated pre-fight!!!
this guy posting must be new to boxing
No wonder he's a fl0mo.

Nah I got it :beerchug:
How many other posts from 2-3 years back do you have bookmarked just in case someone disagrees with you in a completely different thread at any point in the future? :lol1:

Embarrassed for this? Did you ever hear me explain how Roy Jones was going to shock the world with a late round TKO of Joe Calzaghe? This, my friend, isn't embarrassing :lol1:
I completely underestimated Kovalev who I had admittedly not really watched prior to the fight. I just assumed he was the latest out-of-depth sloth Hopkins had chosen to continue his should've-been-buried career. I was glad when Kovalev won, admitted my error after and also came away very impressed with his skillset.

noice, true boxing fan :beerchug:
I don't know who should be more embarrassed, he for making a wrong prediction, or you for being such a desperate man that you'd dig that hard to spite some stranger on an internet forum.

... calling people names, it means you lost -- but you knew that.
(simply using bookmarks prevents any kind of 'digging' the net.)
"lost"? lol, I wasn't even the guy you quoted. If you need some more of those chestnuts though, try "sticks and stones" next time, it's slightly newer material. ;)

This "robotic brain" here is just seeing robotic brains everywhere... and his prediction above looked more like a prophecy, augury or divination...

Kovalev has a puncher's chance and a puncher's chance only. His robotic brain is going to short circuit when faced with a guy like Hopkins. 119-107 x3.
