George Groves ... bit of a dick? Retired fighter salting the retirement of one of his competitors. Why not go whole hog and diminish more of your career and call Eubank a clown? Everyone else does.
Didnt know that Korobov was a welterweight who got knocked out a couple times at welterweight??? TMT might be the worst promotional company ever.
They may be dangerously derelict but the crown for worst promotional company is still atop Roc Nation's incompetent dome.
Tommy likee. Tommy likee alot. If the Liam Smith to Rocky Fielding progression continues, it will be fun to see if Canelo can corner him enough to chop him down from the body.
i never post here but i read all the comments.
2 things i have to comment on.
1. with all due respect to Smith, he may be a champ and undefeated, but he has never even fought a B level fighter before. he doesn't have anything for Canelo in this fight, it will be a boxing lesson for as long as it lasts.
2. the Canelo-GGG debate doesn't make much sense to me, especially when people say Canelo is ducking GGG. I like both fighters and rate both as A level fighters, but GGG needs this fight more than Canelo.
Canelo is already a PPV star
Canelo fought Mayweather when he was 23 years old and on Mayweather's terms. Knowing he couldnt make 152 and knowing it was too soon in his career. Why because he knew it was his chance to become a star.
Logically you cannot come into the game and call out a PPV star on your terms, and expect a PPV split.
If GGG was that desperate for the fight, he should have done what PAC eventually did to get the Mayweather fighter and accept that he was not the A team. Take whats on offer if your only motive is the fight, and take your chances to become a PPV star.
I like GGG he is a warrior and a good fighter, but he knows the only way he is gonna make serious money and become a PPV star is by beating the star.
So he needs Canelo. simple as that
ok, ok, it all comes down to show biz. There's a compelling counterargument to your position though that De La Hoya and Golden Boy intentionally float unattractive offers because they know they will be refused and are avoiding Golovkin while Canelo is in his prime earning years. They will only risk the match up when 1) Golovkin is a couple ring years older and hopefully more beatable 2) Alvarez' earning power diminishes and there's nowhere left to go for a big payday, ideally both.
Where was Benitez ranked when Leonard KO'd him?
Or Trinidad when Hopkins got him?
Hard to get a feel for P4P ratings when i wasnt properly following the sport (or in SRL's case, not alive)
Trinidad Hopkins is a good call. Gonna rewatch that fight.
Nothing would make me happier than calling you crazy
Call me crazy but I want to see Canelo vs Bivol @168
But I can't. "Immediate Rematch Clause" Kovalev is going to get it first and then Bivol or any number of Eastern European LHW's that were patiently waiting for Krusher.
Im Canelo's manager's biggest fan.
He doesnt look good ... at all ... but if there's any british gym that knows how to get Fury back down to fighting weight its probably hitman hatton's.
You gotta hand it to Brook. Moves up to the 2nd biggest show in 4 weight classes while still protecting his belts. Manages to get serious rep in the sport after being on the wrong end of a stoppage less than half way thru the fight. Parlays it into a potential dodge on the high risk/ low reward mandatory against Spence and opens himself up for consideration on yet another of Canelo's endless Huge Event Tune Up Fights Series. Definitely not the dumbest thing I've seen all day.
I'm really getting tired of de la Hoyas gaffes and incompetence. As a promoter you're supposed to hype. Hyping is definitely a skill and some do it better than others. PBC's ringside teams trying to polish the turd through gritted teeth on another bum match up is example enough. But I guarantee that de la Hoya taking a dump on a year Golden boy was definitely big part of isn't exactly stoking the ppv audience for a big 2017. 900k cotto, 600k khan, 300k smith. You're doing it wrong Oscar.
if it's money then this is an elaborate back tax scam where Roy somehow got an agreement where they can only garnish wages based some "similar" work for the wages he earned and never paid on. So now he's taking these tubby bastards to school for chump change and telling the IRS "In Russia, you go **** yourself comrade!"
Here come the Eubank wolf tickets while GGG's got another fight locked in. Apparently he can't fully exploit all those weaknesses without a series of bizarre and unreasonable demands being met by his own promoter. Total dodge. Same thing happened when he fought Saunders. It was like Eubanks thought he was in a staring contest or something. Saunders just danced around and poked him while Eubanks stood there. All talk.
These guys are the size of sixth graders. I love boxing, but really cannot get into two guys this small who would be beat into a coma by anyone at a local bar.
That said, it certainly seems Gonzalez has been avoiding a rematch with Estrada at all costs. The only way to get anyone to even pay attention is to make these midgets fight on the undercard of G.
Hey, at least the loser can always make money by being the midget used in Mexico's Midget Tossing tournaments.
UFC FightPass is right down the hall if you're looking for chin out, haymaker bar brawls between middleweights the size of sunday afternoon fullbacks with about as much professional fighting tenure as actual sixth graders. NECKS!
If Pacquiao signs with DAZN, it is what it is. I don't mind.
As soon as that DAZN app is available in the U.S. I'm going to subscribe.
Im planning to subscribe too. ESPN plus rarely shows anything but the top rank undercards unless theyre showing a fight airing at 6am US time because it takes place half way around the world. But DAZN's name is ridiculous. I feel like I should be ordering a bbq bacon chicken calzone from them while drunk at 3am.
Kudos to the Bronx zookeeper for his surprising adherence to professional ethics. If Mike had offered two hundred bucks to wrestle an alligator in Florida, "hell buddy! I was wonderin' when you were gonna ask! Get in there and git on it!"
I'm glad to hear Provodnikov is finding a life after boxing. He was awesome to watch and I would have preferred him to Molina in the ring with Crawford. He just racked up too many losses bringing big drama show to the fans.
This walking punching bag stating the obvious. However lets not forget there has been a contract offered to GGG who says he doesn't care about money but wont sign due to money. It is not a fair offer but it does give him his biggest payday and gives him the fight that he and Abel believe will not reach the distance and is an easy win. I say take it get the win and then start calling the shots. Use that lowball offer as extra incentive to dish out a beating if they are so sure.
I disagree. It's the biggest fight in boxing for a reason, it's the best match up that can be made and won't be a cake walk either way. Why should Golovkin, even if he walks right thru Canelo, set Alvarez up with a retirement package and take a short payout? So he can spend another 5 years chasing down the next guy in a weight class up and hope the money's there? He, like any other boxer, is not doing this for his health.
From my view of the Shabransky fight, at least 2 of the knock downs came from Kovalev rights that actually landed as clubbing blows on the backside of Shabransky's ear. That has as much to do with Shabransky's deficiencies in defense and ducking into Kovalev's onslaught as any suspected, diminished accuracy on Kovalev's part but what I want to see as a fan, is/are deeper water fights against a game opponent(s). All this dirty laundry about training camps after the Ward losses have been an embarrassment for Kovalev and his arguments that he learned all he needs to know fighting in the streets only served to reinforce that he's a heavy hitter with an eye toward early round finishes who leaves alot to be desired when the bout goes beyond a bar brawl/ mop up. If he's going to regain credibility as an A list fighter and not as a knock out artist hoisted up against sub par competition by the dick grabbing media I'd like to see a more challenging match up in March or whenever he secures a fight again.
After what we saw tonight, Jacobs, Eubank Jr., and Canelo will give Golovkin problems, I'm not saying they would win but they would give him problems, Canelo is the only one I would favor at 160 against Golovkin, at 168 DeGale, Callum Smith, Groves, Ramirez all kick his ass, and at 175 Kovalev, Stevenson, Beteriev, Ward, Sharbansky, and Smith Jr kick his ass
Yes, Golovkin would have some compelling, competitive fights in front of him at MW. This guy's damned if he keeps working out on lesser opposition as unproven and damned if he doesn't continue the knock out parade with true MW contenders if they'd only step up and get in the ring with him instead of drunk dialing twitter with wolf tickets the minute he signs a contract to fight another fighter. Jeez.
Teddy popping off was annoying at times but the blow by blow and color commentary on the loma/rigo broadcast only dampened down an overall dreary/mismatched affair. From the main event down thru the undercard. Atlas waded into boxing politics alot but lent alot of hardcore energy to the matches he commentated on. On a side note, I catch you sniffing around my crates again, anyway, who the hell gets stripped of his title for going up in weight? That english dude cant even claim a defense because the challenger, who he beat, came in two pounds over weight. What the heck does boxing have against Rigo and cuban boxers? These guys are up against alot on the business end of the sport.
Kovalev won the first fight and got robbed. The handwriting is on the wall. The boxing power brokers want Ward as champion and no matter how the fight goes Kovalev will need a knockout to win. Ward is a protected fighter, he's allowed to hold at will and will do it again in this fight while the referee will blindly look on. Any round that Ward is not knocked down in or completely pummeled he will win and at the end of 12 rounds Ward will win a decision no matter how bad a beating he takes. Most fans have short memories and while their will be outrage right after the fight a few months down the line he'll be on Ring magazines cover and still be P4P in their rankings. A good reason not to buy that rag.
Maybe, but boxing's power brokers also love a rubber match. If Ward, and I won't deny holding may be a part of it, doesn't absolutely solve Kovalev in the rematch there will be more than enough incentive for a close decision to go the other way.
You don't just bounce back from addiction and mental illness in a few months. Humility is required to defeat those burdens. His mouth tells us that he's learned nothing.
If he dares challenge Joshua next, it will be his complete undoing.
Well, to play devil's advocate for a moment. Maybe Joshua just seems easy in comparison to the paint job his tangle with the Peruvian marching powder laid on him. Tyson Fury ... just might be crazy enough to work.
To be honest Gabe is always fun to watch. Bleeding all over, still fighting.
Seriously. Rosado's messed up blood vessels next to his eye are what keep people coming back. It's like a horror movie watching that guy fight.
He needs to be focusing on his upcoming fight instead. Walters is no joke
Totally agree. Walters is not someone Lomanchenko should be looking thru. This just makes me look forward to Thanksgiving weekend even more. I'm totally hoping this is a war that takes Hi Tech's ego down a notch or two, however it turns out.
