I'm not really a fan. It seems he does everything good but doesn't seem to have one great quality that really makes me want to tune into his fights if that makes sense.
How can you not love this guy:
He was on theboxingtruth.com radio earlier in the week which is available for download if anyone wants to check it out. Despite all the trashtalking which is mainly just about getting in people's heads, I think he's a good guy. He was answering everyone's questions on that show and even called back in when his phone got cut off during one of the questions. He threw in some gems to like calling Hopkins "Ol' snaggle tooth ass".
Nooo....
As a Hopkins fan I've been against this fight for the last year. I thought it was a blessing when Jones lost so we wouldn't have to see this.
It's going to be a boring fight based on their current styles (not like the first one was even exciting) and if it's PPV that's a complete joke.
Plus it's a lose-lose fight for Hopkins. If he wins, so what. Jones lost widely to Calzaghe and got KO'ed by Green. If he loses then it's just embarrassing.
Sort of useless comparison between a boxer and rattlesnake since it's not like we've ever really gauged how fast a cobra strikes compared to human punch but still interesting regardless.
As far who punches faster, maybe you should break out some of those 60fps vids and go frame by frame and see who punches faster since each frame equals 1/60 of a second so your getting an accurate read though I'm sure there's other factors that would probably make that a poor scientific test like fighters starting punches in different positions and not knowing if their really throwing 100%. Actually, this is probably a terrible idea lol
The thing is that Pacquiao has shown that he has defensive liabilities against good boxers, it's just that guys like Cotto aren't able to handle the return fire. Clottey on the other hand will be able to because of his great defense and overall toughness. Judah, who IMO is up there with Pacquiao in terms of speed and power, threw everything but the kitchen sink at Clottey and he didn't flinch. In return he ripped him with hooks and lead straight rights, punches I could see him landing on Pacquiao as well. I could see Clottey landing the more clean, effective punches with Pacquaio having a higher workrate but mainly just hitting gloves with the occasional clean punch so it could come down to what the judges like more.
It's hard to pick against Pacquiao at this point since he continues to rise to each new challenge, but damn it's tempting in this case.
I was dying in the Foreman-Santos fight when he said (or something close to):
"Everyone got up for that knockdown. Usually the only time you see people getting up during a Yuri Foreman fight is to leave".
Even as Hopkins fan I'm disappointed with this fight since I feel it's a lose-lose situation. If he wins, so what, he beat a shell of Roy Jones who just got KO'ed by Danny Green. If he loses then it's just humiliating.
Still, there is the rivalry factor that makes it intriguing and there's no way I won't be buying this.
I didn't realize Hopkins dropped to #3. I got no problem with Dawson being #1 but I'm not so sure about Johnson being ahead of Hopkins based on a win against Yusaf Mack...
I don't believe there's ever been any evidence that he had trouble making 147 and his last fight there was about 18 months ago. He's come in light for his last two middleweight fights and he even said he ate breakfast the morning of the Wright weigh in and still came in at 157. Personally, I think he can still make 147 without being drained.
Hopkins entrance song for the Pavlik fight.
Big Daddy Kane "Young, gifted and black"
That was for the Calzaghe fight.
As far as others, Ronald Hearns comes out to something a little different but I really like it:
yea yea..who cares about things like thoroughly outboxing your opponent. Dirrell "ran" and that should cancel out all his landed punches. What really matters is pressing your opponent whether it's effective or not and that's why Froch deserved the win.
He's a tough fight for anyone, and no, I wouldn't be surprised. He would pick off most of the punches and deliver the memorable punches in return. I think it would likely be another quality vs quantity fights like Hopkins-Calzaghe.
Thank you to everyone who hit me up via email or PM here on BS. I appreciate you guys posting on my wall in my profile. I enjoy doing the show and will continue this coming Monday. I will send out my event calander on FB. For those who are not on my FB page send me friend requests. My link to FB is in my signature. Thanks for your support and we will have a good talk once again this Monday....Lefty
Good to hear because you do a great job and I enjoy listening to the show.
What that guy didn't seem to get is that no one was trying to silence his opinion. He was silenced because he was just being an asshole. You can respectfully disagree but he crossed the line on several occasions.
Abraham was picking off a lot of punches but Taylor was landing shots, it can just be hard to tell sometimes when a guy fights with a shell defense . His face didn't look like this for nothing:

Simple : MONEY. He is the biggest payday in town. Win or lose and it will be lose the fighters will never get a bigger payday in their careers.
Bingo. Scoring a fight with him right now is like winning the lottery.
What are you, 12?
And what is Dawson thinking lol Come on, you can't be someone in his position and resort to trashtalking and threatning kids over twitter...
Maybe he should be compensated financially for doing in considering it's a demand from the other camp and that seems to be the issue...that they don't want to have to be told what to do by going above and beyond what is normally required. If they truly believe he's clean, why not walk away with some extra money for doing some simple tests?
Thats not Dawson.
He was on boxingtruth radio and said he doesn't have a twitter account.
Good to hear...I knew I should have been a little more skeptical about that even being him in the first place.
lol; you really think Dawson uses Twitter? A pro boxer who trains hard & has a big family is on Twitter the whole time?
pun.ks get a life.
There are some fighters on twitter who do respond to fans like Berto, Dirrell, and I believe Paul Williams.

He should of got docked at least two points in that fight, for his headbutting and holding. Cortez really disgraced himself as well, for allowing it.
Yea, and Calzaghe was a perfect angel with his low blows (one which he admitted was deliberate) and rabbit punches.
Why do people bring up that headbutt has an example of Hopkins being "dirty"? Calzaghe came flailing in with his chin sticking out and he threw a right hook which Hopkins ducked and he then lifted his head to throw a counter. It's not his problem that Calzaghe's in his zone. What was he supposed to do, not lift his head and get hit? It would be like in baseball telling a pitcher that he shouldn't try to throw a strike in the inside corner because the batter bended his knee into the strike zone.
Thanks haglerwins for posting that link. I don't make stuff up.
according to compubox calzaghe landed more shots on hopkins than any of his previous opponents... Dont know if Jones-Hopkins was Compubox-registered, if it was that would mean Joe landed more on bernard than Jones.. And the general conception is that Roy dominated Hopkins.
Now i do agree that he did not seriously hurt Hopkins, but Hopkins only seriously hurt Joe once...
boxing is scored on Effective aggresion, defence, ring generalship and clean&hard punching.
In my opinion, Joe was the aggresor, and to a certain point an effective one(landing more shots on Bernard than any other could) and definetly the ring general(Hopkins running) while Hopkins was better in the defence department(he usually is) and did land the cleaner shots.
Looking at it like that i think it is safe to say the fight was close and could have gone either way. However(again, just my opinion) if you take into account that Hopkins was running and holding all night, and that joe was the one making the fight entertaining i have no problem with Joe getting the decision.
Now i know boxing is not supposed to judged on entertainment value, but bernard really irritated me that night and i was happy Joe got the win...
Look, I'm sure you probably haven't observed the fight nearly much as myself but what I can assure you is that the compubox numbers were a complete joke. Your welcome to pick a round and compare your numbers with theirs just to see.
Hopkins also staggered Calzaghe with that punch in the gif since it sent him back off balance but it would be a fair point to suggest that the headbutt assisted in the damage.
I would not call Calzaghe's aggression effective since he hardly landed anything despite throwing over 700 punches (according to compubox so take it with it a grain of salt but I'll say that's easier to count total numbers of punches vs what actually lands). What he did land most consisted of arm punches with nothing behind them.
As far as ring generalship, I'd probably give the edge to Calzaghe. Keep in mind that just because someone is "running" doesn't mean they aren't controlling things and in certain rounds Hopkins was in control since he was making Calzaghe fight his fight and frustrating him in the process.
In the end, though, the objective is to hit and not get hit and that's precisely what Hopkins did while landing the clean, effective punches.
Pointing to a fighter being "boring" by clinching, etc. as a means to not score the fight for a person is a poor excuse IMO. It's just like the Froch-Dirrell fight. No one can actually give a legit argument for Froch outboxing him so they resort to petty things like saying he ran, etc.
