I watched the first Dawson-Tarver fight just now, and I was shocked as to how I could've forgotten about that mind-blowing handspeed Dawson has. Holy shit, the guy was throwing 11-punch combos at will (granted, at an old man) and firing those shots from all sorts of crazy angles - over and over again, at will. That is speed. I'll actually go so far as to say Dawson has the fastest hands out of all the current top fighters.
But what do you fellas think? There are those diehards who remain adamant that Pacquiao is the fastest, whilst others will claim it's Mayweather. I'll say that's legit. I've also heard a smaller niche group saying Khan has them all beat, and an even smaller promoting the notion that Gamboa is the new king of handspeed. For me, though, it's Dawson without question.
exactly right.how can dawson be quicker than gamboa..1 is a lightheavy, the other a featherweight! ridiculous comparison!
gamboa is the fastest thing ive ever seen!
P4P speed I assume we're talking here not just literal speed otherwise yes it would be a ridiculous comparison. And given his size Dawson is very quick. I go with Gamboa and Khan here though, both insanely quick with either single or combination punches.
In order :
Gamboa, Dawson, Mayweather, Khan, Pacquiao.
Gamboa, Dawson and Mayweather are quicker with single shots than Pacquiao and Khan but when Pacquiao and Khan put punches together there handspeed is rapid.
Its not a real thread because you cant compare guys at different sizes that far apart and thats not even including the age. The lowest divisions should always be the fastest. I will say though, I think a SFW Floyd is the fastest guy of the group

Gamboa is so fast that even when you're watching his fights, you can't see all the punches he throws.
When i become a fighter, i might duck him until he's 42 years old and loses most of his reflexes. lol
Pac does NOT have faster hands than Gamboa or Dawson.
Pac throws fast combos, but his handspeed is a level below Gamboa, Khan, or Dawson.
I would even say Judah and Mayweather are slightly faster. With Pac it's about his combos.
More like opinion because we have no way to really gauge it. I think for pure speed it's Gamboa or khan, pac, pbf, chad. Pac's combos, i think is better than the rest because there is an intent to knock you down with every punch not just pitty pat or a flurry to dissuade an opponent going in.
they have smaller arms and hands so with proportional muscle mass they should have force that will make them punch faster. Now about those lifespan, I haven't really think about the reason why but I agree that heavy weight fighters have longer boxing lifespan.
Well not every lighter weight fighter has smaller arms which enable them to be fast. There are TONS of fighters with lanky arms and are pretty damn slow even though they are light weight. But if your talking about fighters with shorter arms can generally throw quicker, then yes that's generally true. But a lanky fighter can still shoot out a punch VERY fast, he just can't pull it back and maintain the rate like a shorter arm fighter could. Corrales and a fighter like Pavlik come to mind. Occasionally firing off a blinding straight, but that's 1 punch.
Well, you can't prove that, and really neither can I. But they both have had lots of flash knockdowns at those weights from their speed so we can safely? assume they are equal? Yes Cotto and Oscar weren't fast, but at the time he unloaded in them with that speed, it was more than halfway, and they were already beaten to crap prior. The fact that he maintains his speed still late has to count for something? And above all, he uses it to out do his opponents size advantages.
yeah, Im not going to hate. Pac is a fast ass dude. Really, there is nothing better to me then seeing a speed matchup. Thats why I cant wait for Floyd-Mosley and the winner against Pac. Clottey's hands are a little faster than people give him credit for so Pac better watch out. Then again, Cotto was beating Clottey to the punch alot so maybe Clottey better watch out, lol
floyd is probably the fastest...a tie between gamboa and pac second...khan would be third...chad is quick...but i don't think he comes close to the speed of the smaller guys...i think that zab judah should be on there too...i really think he's the fastest active boxer around...
That's why I didn't agree with Dawson being the fastest. It's also why the lower weights have a shorter lifespan so to speak than the heavier weights. They need to maintain those killer reflects and timing or there done. Heavies can be fighting well past 35. Infact 35-38 might be considered a heavies prime years lol.

This and let me repeat again for the second time, " the lowest division should always be the fastest". That's physics for y'all.
