I will disagree with this. If you keep your cardio and conditioning routine, you should be able to put on muscle without losing speed. It would take SO MUCH WORK to get bulked up (with muscle) to the point that it would be detrimental to your boxing, that you shouldn't worry about it.

EDIT: Theoretically, there will be a point of diminishing returns, but the first several pounds of muscle you put on will increase your strength considerably and should not negatively effect your mobility, handspeed, footwork, etc. You'd have to quit boxing completely and dedicate your life to lifting weights for months if not years (depending on your metabolism) to get to the point where you're "too big to box." Even then, it's usually not a matter of being too large to move quickly; it's an issue of ergonomics, and the amount of oxygen a muscle-packed body requires to fight several rounds. It can still be done; Tyson had a physique that most hobbyist "natural" (non-steroidal) bodybuilders would envy -- he was, however, in extraordinary cardiovascular condition.

Keep boxing, keep at your roadwork, and supplement with big compound lifts -- squat, deadlift, clean, bench -- and get lots of protein, water, clean food, and sleep.

        its not natural...

staying at a lower weight is better. unless ur a pro who can get a bigger payday in another weight class...

let me use this as an example...

if you weigh 160 lbs now and punch at 500 PSI (by the way, im just making these numbers up...just using them as a source)

if you lift weights and bulk to 190 lbs...you might hit only 600-650 PSI...

if you work on the heavybag more and just from that and core work get to 180-190 lbs. ull be hitting 800-900...

Agreed, but packing 30 lbs. of permanent muscle onto a 160-lb. frame is a feat that would require years and years of work without steroids. 10-15 lbs. of natural muscle (keeping the same bodyfat, and not including creatine bloating) per year is considered excellent gains for a natural bodybuilder of medium frame. It would take longer, still, if the athlete was to keep boxing during this time.

Up your protein, hit the squat cage, sleep a lot. 7 lbs. shouldn't affect your boxing unless you're a flyweight. What weight class are you and how tall are you?
