I did 225 for 3 the other day I found that very difficult. It wasn't pretty very shaky..I bench well but military press has always been on the weaker side for me, maybe because I have only been really doing it with any consistency in the last 6 months.

But I find with military press even adding 5lb plates you really feel those extra 10lb...not like bench where you have to throw an extra 10 a side to actually feel it as the "next step"
Well Bench is a compound exercise but Military press is all shoulders...225 is insane on military press..ya'll got strong ass shoulders

I've seen big fellas at the gym do 225 for 8-10 reps on the military press, standing not jumping as you would on a clean and jerk, and not using the legs at all...But mind you those were 260lb + guys.

True about the bench as well. Also personally I always benched with a relatively close grip so I developed my triceps a lot more than my shoulders. But I know that my shoulders are not well balanced with my chest and tris because I have a hard time benching with a wider grip. Which sucks because if my shoulders were stronger I could probably bench more by cutting out the distance I have to move the bar and just getting more muscles involved.

      Balance balance balance...

No, the military press is also compound.

Do your arms assist in lifting? Yes.

Side lateral dumbbell raises is all shoulders... which is why most people can't do more than 30lbs.

        • Yeah, military press is pretty much the definition of a compound exercise.

And I think my shoulders just got a little sore just THINKING about 285 lbs. That's some big boy weight, right there.
