this is weird. title says "should i start going to a gym" and then you just say gyms suck and 90% of the trainers are mentally ******ed and dont know **** about boxing

go to a gym man, you wont make any progress when all you do is hit the bag a little at home and maybe do some crunches after that. you cant push yourself the way trainers do. and age doesnt matter unless youre 40 or something you still have every chance to become a pro and what not if you are dedicated. but you gotta get somebody to coach you otherwise you are just wasting your time and you pick up a lot of bad habits that the more you train on your own the harder it gets to get rid of.

(unless you are trolling of course, because i still cant believe you actually said what you said earlier about gyms and trainers)

do you know the difference between a right cross and a right straight?

i cant push my self the way trainers do? doubtful in fact simply out of spite i wouldn't push at all with a trainer till he learned how to show some respect or if perhaps he could tell me the difference between a right straight and a right cross.

I like anyone who has a dig, and putting yourself out there for the scrutiny of an entire forum, well that takes e-balls.

But i just gotta say if your missing the bag with wild hooks chances are you might have some difficulty hitting a moving opponent thats throwing back =]

I might be better off trying to convince the pope that some aspects of Buddhism's is better then Christianity then trying to get good at boxing while listening to most these coaches.

i bet 90% of the coaches out there dont even know the diffrence between a right straight and a right cross.

I pwn that foo he aint got no skillz like me.
Good stuff in the more recent video mate, you've obviously improved.

I do think you should go to a gym though. Even if the coaching if shoddy, at least you'd get a chance to spar and whatnot. Different people are different, but for me I'd say it helps with motivation as well. It's easy to take an extra 30 seconds break at home, but not at a gym as everyone else is there and you'd look bad (or at least unfit or lazy).

Most of the responses in this thread are from idiots with no experience and aren't worth listening to, though you probably know that already.

I haven't been to my gym for ages and don't train anymore, but to give you an example of how I think it might help: I like to step in with the jab, and have some bodyweight behind it, and when I sparred a smaller, faster opponent I did a good job of keeping them at the ideal range and boxing well even though they were pretty good(IMO). But when I sparred someone who was slightly bigger than myself and who didn't move much, everytime I tried to throw the jab that way they'd easily see it coming, then block/parry/slip and counter. Obviously something I learned from this was to shorten it up a bit, and to throw differently. A sparring partner will keep you thinking, a punchbag will not.

Another thing I realised is that I put too much weight on my front foot, which makes it a lot easier to move to the left than to the right, so I had to learn to move to my right better so as to circle away from the power hand of most people. Without sparring I probably wouldn't have noticed that.

Even sparring with your friends will probably not help your development a great deal as they won't challenge you as much as a proper sparring partner would.

                    Just my 2 cents.

                      It's a damn shame.
