I agree with alot of people here, Lewis was a good champ, but not a great one. That's not to say he isn't grossly underrated by some boxing fans. You can't really compare his two losses to Louis', it took Max what, 12 rounds to break Louis down and Marciano 8. Lewis was dropped by one punch on both occasions and deemed unable to continue, and separated from his senses against Rahman, he didn't even know what happened. Yes, technically he did avenge both losses, but the only one a real champ would claim would be the Rahman fight, and Rahman didn't really fight the second time around. That leads me to another thing I didn't like about him, not only did he not have any interest in taking on all comers, he never gave a rematch to anyone that gave him a fight. He only rematched fighters he lost to, hell even if he claimed not to have been motivated enough to rematch VK, what about Mercer? And after Rahman II, they had a KO win apiece. Big deal, wheres the trilogy? Briggs had him in big trouble, why no rematch? Instead, Lewis picked the fights he wanted, and then couldn't understand why the public didn't support him more. I agree with EL, even though Tyson was shot to pieces, he was still Tyson and if they hadn't fought Lewis would have been at fault in the public's eye. I still fault him for calling it quits though, not so much because it wasn't time, but because he said he wanted to go out with his legacy intact, but it was simply his record he was worried about.

I agree, all recent champs have hand picked their opponents, but when a fighter bitches and moans about being critisized as much as Lewis did, one would think he would make an effort to clean the division out chumps included. Hell look at Ruiz, one of the very men that Lewis refused to fight, fought all comers during his reign and he's straight up garbage lol

Yes. He reigned from 1998-2001/2001-2004 and beat the best who had the balls to fight him. He bested Ruddock, Morrison, Mercer, Tua, Grant, Tucker, & Bruno as well as blew out Botha and Golota who had given good accounts of themselves in previous bouts. He was ducked first by Bowe and then by Tyson. He avenged both of his defeats and through rematch defeated every man he ever faced. He was stopped in 2 rounds in 1994 and came back to dominance over the division for the next ten years. Not many fighters can come back from a kayo, he did and then some...did it twice......that says something about him.

So, yes, he is an all-time great; I've got him in the top ten.

He was easilly a great champion, and a poll like this really contrasts how petty and desperate those are who suggest otherwise due to bias.

He beat every fighter he ever faced, and is a shoe in for the hall of fame.

He's top ten all time in the Heavyweight division. Where you want to rank him in there is up for debate, but anyone who suggests he isn't great has some kind of agenda or is outright ignorant.

why would lewis fight rahman for a third time?? everyone knew the first fight was a fluke and a result of lewis not taking the **** seriously. when he took it seriously he destroyed him

i say yes Lewis is great. but how can ppl be dumb and say tyson ducked lewis? if i remember right, tyson was in prison when lewis became champ. lewis lost his belt right before tyson got out. tyson lost to holyfield twice soon after he got out, and was suspended again for a couple of years. he came back around 2000 and climb up the ladder enroute to a matchup w/ lewis in 2002.
