Unpopular Opinion: Canelo beats Prime Hagler

Canelo can take a punch, but hes not willing to sit there and trade. He likes to be slick and wait for chances to punch. Thats why he does terrible against guys that move. By the time he sets his feet and has his opportunity, they are gone, and he has to start over again.
We are talking about comparing him to ATG fighters, who had extremely convincing wins over fellow ATG fighters. When Canelo lost every single round to Floyd, in many peoples opinions lost both fights to GGG, and barely squeaked by Lara.
He has not put on an ATG performance, against another great fighter.
Much less against another ATG fighter in their prime.
Hagler has, Toney has, Hopkins has. Floyd has, Hearns has, Leonard Has, Jones has.
Nobody took Jones beating John Ruiz seriously. But Canelo is doing the same thing, but doing it under more dubious circumstances. That doesn't make him greater, that makes him a circus performer. He might as well start fighting youtubers if hes going to be putting in a full camp, while giving the other guy 3 1/2 weeks.
Once again, Canelo is very Talented, and can be fun to watch, when he is in actual fights like against GGG. But he seems content to just fight stinkers these days.
Not willing to sit and trade???
Did you watch Canelo vs GGG 2!!??Comment

Who got failed a drug test Hagler or Canelo?Yeah but how much of that was peds?(back then they were all doping,it wasn't thought of the same way it is now because it was so easy to get away with)
(I'm not saying Canelo would beat Hagler btw,its always up for debate in these mythical matchups because of intangibles & different eras & training methods etc.,
as far as the question of whether Canelo is better than Hagler or will be considered once retired better,
,I think nostalgia makes it impossible for modern fighters to surpass prior era fighters Because no matter what they do & how young they start fighting the best, even if Canelo beats Charlo,Andrade, Benevidez,Plant,BJS, Beterbieve before retiring,he still will be said to get Murdered by Jones & Hagler, both of whom are deified despite both having many flaws like any fighter.
Ps I also disagree about"the biggest punchers the sport has ever seen" he was a career mw who faced all the best but he could've faced them multiple times & they had same day weigh ins many of those fights(Kovalev is a natural lhw, weighed 200lbs,& was literally nicknamed the Krusher, yet he didn't even phase Canelo who walked him down (Kov before Ward was considered a much harder puncher than Ggg for example),& Haglers biggest career flaw was he didn't fight enough top guys before retiring pretty young (Leonard rematch not happening was through his own fault,& he lost that fight with 1 card being identical to Byrds card,& Ggg probably was considered among the hardest punchers at mw pre Canelo.
Bottom line is Canelo finally has an argument to make in that matchup, but nobody would ever ko Hagler thats for sure, I also don't think Hagler could ko Canelo either,I think it'd be a great fight impossible to know for sure prime v prime.Comment

Haglers time didn't have proper testing, clen is a joke.(& canelo was cleared) In Haglers time it was still common practice for fighters to use all kinds of stimulants & other peds which is why they used to go 15 rds with over 1000 punches thrown,in fights that were barnburners from beginning to end.(do you actually believe that would be possible without peds despite fighters who today having superior nutrition, superior training methods, etc. being completely tired after 12 rds of stop & go action?) (it was so bad that fighters considered it completely normal that peds were the only way for them to make weight in same day weigh ins. Fighters back then literally looked at peds like they were vitamins necessary to practice the sport,Hagler started having more stringent testing towards end of career, then suddenly fights were 12 rds vs Leonard,& he didn't throw nearly as many punches)
For the record I consider Hagler the best natural talent of all time,I consider him almost the perfect fighter. The only thing that keeps him from unbeatable is that he was slightly taller, but about Canelos sizeLast edited by kushking; 01-25-2021, 07:46 PM.Comment

Im sorry but GGG chin is actual granite and hagler has been knocked down. But over all it would be a close fightComment

Kid, he never would have gotten out of 54 from the old days, never mind 60 and up.
Can you imagine Canelo against Terrible Terry Norris, Nunn, Liles, Tate, Toney, Jones, McClellen, Benn, and Julian Jackson?
Benn would bash his brains in from the front and back lmao. Canelo would be in a wheelchair droolin into a cup.
Julian Jackson would literally end Canelo's life, like a for real dead body in the ring.
I don't even think he would beat guys like Starling, Curry, or Sosa kind of fighters.
So many Canelo Stans here, I can't believe it. I thought the Pacq era was bad, at least Pacq could **** and fought real names. Canelo be cherry pickin like those were the last cherry's on earth.Comment

WHo do you think wins in an all out brawl till death ggg or hagler just askingHagler has probably the greatest chin the sport has ever seen. He has brawled with some of the hardest punchers the sport has ever seen, and none of them slowed him down. He was always in fantastic shape, could fluidly switch from southpaw to orthodox.
Hes coming to fight every second of every round, and there is nothing you can do to stop him from doing it.
You better be able to move, because nobody has come out for the better standing and trading with the Marvelous one.Comment
