Teddy Atlas promoting MMA and working with MMA fighters

What do folks think of Teddy Atlas focusing more on MMA than boxing in his recent podcasts? He has also been working with Francis Ngannou and others...

Here he is defending himself against the so called boxing purists.

"I'm here to report what's going on...I'm the weatherman. I'm gonna tell you if it's rainin' or snowin', or if it's gonna be sunny. Boxing hasn't given us a lot of sunny days guys. I have news for ya...it's been rainy!? "

He goes on to say that "Boxing has been putting on sparring sessions, and the UFC is putting on actual fights....What am I suppose to say!? Not Say it!? And not say that I'm interested in it!? and not say that I appreciate the competitiveness they're giving us!? Damn right I'm gonna say it!"

This clip can be found here:

I am a big fan of both sports, and I tend to agree with him. Too many mismatches. Why is it so unacceptable for a boxer to lose? Why is it more acceptable to line up 30 tomato cans and knock them all down then to be in compelling match ups that fans want to see?

I'm a huge fan of both sports, so I've given this a bit of thought over the years. What do others think?

I suppose that is true in some respects, but does he not have a point?

Can't disagee on most of the points there, I like both sports but whilst the MMA / UFC has plenty of flaws the capacity of Boxing to shoot itself in the ass never ceases to amaze.

The best might not always fight the best in MMA but mostly you can hold out hope that a majority of important fights will happen in a timely manner whereas in boxing we've come to see it as the exception rather than the rule in recent years.

I have always watched mixed martial arts, mainly I used to enjoy K1 fighting championship but? Boxing is my main combat sport.

Teddy Atlas is up the a*s of the UFC, to the point where 'It is really silly'.

I have noticed the trend of late, where boxers and people within boxing are starting to go up the a*s of the UFC 'I am talking about well established people in the sport of boxing'.

Boxing is far better than every other sport, but it's also one of the worst run. Fights between top MMA guys are less entertaining than fights between top boxers but they happen a lot more often

              It's seasonal

Yes, at the moment, but fight fans either have short memories or just kind of splash around and never really learn anything.

I like MMA, I like the current MMA field, the UFC certainly is kicking ass. I liked MMA when Elite, SF, Pride, and Dream, were all their own thing too.

The UFC's classic move is to claim they have the best, promote them over everyone else, make it real obvious, give us great fights, then buy a new org and watch all those UFC built tops get crumbled by the new kids.

Like, every purchase comes with a new ass whoopin'.

Long time ago right here on this forum I said Ronda would get her ass whooped hard, she's not the best woman, she is not even close, she had a division built for her and they can only feed her so much before she's going to have to fight a real fight.
              Today, common knowledge.

When Chuck was on top UFC was putting on great fights, Chuck got his ass kicked in Pride then UFC bought Pride and Chuck's ass was kicked right TF out of the UFC.

Cormier and Cain started on Strike Force

Fabricio went from Pride to UFC to SF to UFC.

My point is at this point I am skeptical. I called Lyoto great once because he steamrolled the UFC LHWs and if you can crash through the UFC boys you can beat anyone, but, then, he ran out of UFC and had to fight old Pride vets, got bodied.

I'm pretty sure Stipe is the greatest HW right now. I'm fairly sure even if UFC bought every single promotion and had all the fighters none of the guys anywhere else could beat him. That's only because KSW, Bella, and One have UFC dropouts as champions. When they source new HWs all bets are off. I've seen the clear, dominant, UFC promoted best in the world get totally destroyed by outsiders too many times to ever believe the UFC will ever give me the best vs the best.

Lesnar vs Reem in 2010 = truth.

              Lesnar V Reem in 2011 = farce

Reem being in the UFC now means the UFC had the best HWs in 2010? Obviously it means they didn't.

              Conversely

When can Bob Arum just tell you this guy is the best and the guy fighting him is one of the best in the world too and that fly with fans regardless of how often Arum's bests get bodied by non-Arum promoted non-bests?

Exactly, it's pretty convincing right now but I'm skeptical. Those *****es will buy an org soon enough and everyone's gonna get bodied.

Brock hadnt been considered the best UFC HW for over a year by the time Reem fought him though. The general consensus at that point was that Cain, JDS and (even before he'd had a fight in the UFC) Reem were the three best HWs in MMA.

The UFC and Strikeforce HW divisions around the time of the SF HW GP were pretty close in quality, thats true. Its not like this was a mystery to most fans at the time though.

Boxing puts on sparring sessions? The UFC has 3 round fights as the standard. You can move up the rankings and get a title shot based on winning little more than a round and a half in a fight. Even the 5 round title fights often leave a lot to be desired with the fight ending just as the action is starting to pick up.

I don't like Atlas and I never did and never will. He is way toloud and pushy and talks way too much all the time. He does not have much money and was fired from his boxing job for all his yelling and temper tantrums. He is a liar with no credibility. He said Pacquiao got robbed in the first Bradley fight. Then when Bradley hired him he lied and said Bradley deserved to win the first Pacquiao fight. As for the ufc I love it and watch it but boxing is my 1st love and the sport I love the most. If Atlas wants to promote MMA that is OK with me. He needs the money and he is pretty much gone from boxing and I like that. The guy hurt my enjoyment of many boxing matches but running his big mouth every second of every round.
