Mike Tyson is known the world over. He transcends boxing. The only people who know Joshua and Fury are their compatriots/Nigerians/Brits and boxing fans.

There have been endless lists about the relative world fame of superstar athletes, and none of them are reliable.

In my view, Iron Mike's fame/legend far surpasses that of ANY contemporary fighter. He is one of the few boxing stars whose fame transcended not only boxing but sport in general. My young kids know all about Mike Tyson and so does my grandmother. I would argue that Mike Tyson's world fame might only be eclipsed by the likes of stars like Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Pele, Leo Messi and C. Ronaldo. That level. AJ and Tyson Fury are flashes in the pan.

        No he isn't.

Nike Air Jordan are very popular. So are a lot of American sports brands.

But you won't find many in the UK who watched him or could name anything beyond 'Bulls' about his career (at least prior to Netflix). They just liked the shoes.

I had Air Jordans as a teen and the closest I came to watching him was playing a bit of NBA Jam.

There's a reason why the Jordan brand is as popular as it's. Michael Jordan is on Tupac level in terms of popularity.
Working class people, who are pretty much the foundation of most countries 'Do not really identify with Michael Jordan' His legacy is thrown in people's faces 'It is more popular within corporate big business circles than actual life circles' His trainers are popular? A Pair if trainers? What about the man? Mike Tyson is still getting movies made about him etc.

If Michael Jordan traveled to the UK and throughout Europe, visit all the local pubs and working class area's 'He would not receive the same kind of respect and adulation as Mike Tyson' Mike Tyson is more popular with a higher variation of demographics.

People outside of America will idolize American sports and brands 'I have been around people who suddenly become, Tennis Fans or Golf fans when the US open and Masters are under way etc Most people in Europe know nothing Michael Jordan in-depth 'They just know that he was a great basketball player'.

Mike is the face of boxing and may always be for a good hundred years more who knows ? He has the advantage of branching out from before social media or even DVD players came out so he has also a folk lore to him and coming from the U.S got him millions of fans that spread world wide .

The other guys like AJ are more determined to be known in the U.K so it’s not even close . I think AJ will gain huge popularity like a Lewis but unless you get a crazy personality like Mike it’s a losing cause because it goes beyond what you do in the ring as well . Mikes own comeback is going to remind people just how great he was at his current age .

LMAOOO. Read your post again and see how you contradicted yourself in your post.

He’s not popular but his shoes are popular. LMAOOO. Talk about an oxymoron.

Identifying with and being popular are two different things.

I don’t identify with a rap1st like Mike Tyson but does that mean I don’t know who he’s?

The success of his brand is enough to tell you how popular he’s. And outside U.K., Ireland and Scandinavia - basketball is hugely popular across Europe.

If you took Jordan’s name off the sneakers you wouldn’t even glance at them because they would be just another shoe on the market so that is not really true . The sneakers themselves are Jordan’s fame ,you don’t watch sports to know who the athlete is it would be irrelevant just like someone not watching pro wrestling but who knew who Andre the Giant was .

The man is a global icon. American sport superstars don’t get that type of notoriety because most people don’t care about American sports outside of North America but Jordan changed all that. He’s the reason why basketball became a global sport.
