I struggle to believe you don't understand the difference between individual fame and a brand.

Do you think George Foreman is the housewives' favourite? Or do they just like the brand of grill?

We're could literally roll out a thousand brands bearing the name of someone that has everything every to do with the brand and not the individual.

Are you a big fan of Ingvar Kamprad, so you shop at IKEA? Buy Fords because you were a big fan of Henry?

I see some people on here struggle with basic concepts, but you can't tell me you that don't understand this one?
LMAO. You sound very dumb, it's painful. All the examples you also gave have no bearing in what's being discussed since the Jordan brand is his brand marketed based on who he's and his career as a basketball player.

Let's start with "oxymoron" since you seem to have a problem with understanding what it means:

Cambridge Dictionary: a phrase or statement that seems to say two opposite things.

Oxford Dictionary:a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction.

Now your statement: Michael Jordan isn't popular but his shoe is (paraphrasing).

    LMAOOOOO.

If the man isn't popular - how the hell would his shoes be popular since the shoes have always been marketed based on his career, notoriety and it's his name?

LMAO at this guy comparing an athlete to stores. LMAO.

I'm not going to educate you on the brand discussion so let's start with some basic English.

The definitions you provide are correct. Your interpretation and use is incorrect.

What you're looking for is a phrase, a figure of speech... and words used in conjunction. Of course you'll also need to know what 'conjunction' means so time to hit the dictionaries again.

An example might be 'Government Workers', or maybe ''Considered ****EM post'.

Even your paraphrasing (which I never said anything remotely like) isn't an oxymoron.

My bad, it's a paradox not an oxymoron. You're right.

However, you're wrong about Michael Jordan. He's up there with Maradona, Pele, and Muhammad Ali as one of the most popular athletes of all time. I don't even think Mike Tyson would make the top-10 list with the notoriety the likes of Federer, Messi and Ronaldo have these days.

I think you seriously underestimate the icon status of Tyson.

I agree Jordan is as popular as Maradona (idk about Pele) and Ali, but you make the mistake of confusing global footprint due to marketing, brand, etc, with the longevity of an already established pop culture icon. Yes, the Jordan brand is everywhere and yes most people know him. I'd still argue Tyson is as, if not more recognizable across the globe as Jordan.

Similar to Elvis Presley, his face and iconic status is so engrained in pop culture around the world, he doesn't need consistent media or branding to be relevant or recognizable. Snoop Dogg is about there as well, the man was in Fifa commercials and wasn't even named in them - that only happens for iconic people when you're a feature outside of your element.

Either way, who cares who is more popular between Jordan, Maradona, Pele, and Tyson? The gist of this thread is that no active fighter is more popular than Tyson or more recognizable, which is definitely true. Pacquiao is a world icon as well but he doesn't have that longevity just yet. I definitely think Fury gets there eventually. When Pacquiao influences and transcends boxing to the point where he has comparable influences to Tyson inspiring a major Street Fighter character (one of, if not the most popular 2d fighting game franchise of all time), I'll be ready to consider him having an equal level of icon status. Tyson was so popular he was the literal archetype for a boxer and or tough guy when people thought of one. No fighter in any combat sport has come close to replacing that image.

Obviously, Mike Tyson is much more popular than AJ and Fury.

I’m not arguing that - I’m basically just dis*****g the lie that Mike Tyson is more popular than Michael Jordan. The assertion doesn’t even make any sense whatsoever, especially for a guy who single-handedly turned basketball, which is an American sport, into a global sport. Mike Tyson isn’t even the most popular boxer ever - it’s Muhammad Ali by a long shot. Jordan is up there with the likes of Ali in terms of popularity.
