his viciousness inside the ring and all the controversy outside the ring made Tyson a cultural icon. Joshua and Fury are not known outside boxing circles, well maybe Fury with his wrasslin' appearances probably has more popularity outside boxing than Joshua. Joshua was embarrassed by a fat Mexican in his US debut, and the US is the world hegemon, so anything major that happens in the US, it will be heard around the world.

Mike Tyson is so popular that some guy John Fury named his son after him.

How is that a contradiction? And it's certainly not an oxymoron (you shouldn't use words you clearly don't understand).

The brand is popular. Basketball is seen as 'cool' despite no-one really having any interest in it. Likewise plenty of people bought Raiders gear in the 90s despite never watching NFL.

In the 90s, Michael Jordan could have walked through a shopping centre full of kids wearing Air Jordans without being noticed.

I didn't used to know anything about Adi Dassler, but I bought his shoes.

It was just a brand like any other. People wore Jordans because they were a popular brand. In the UK, the shoe brand was better known than the sportsman. They didn't want to be like Mike, they wanted to wear shoes that were very much in fashion at the time.

Take the Jordan tag off them and they were still Nikes and still popular. But Jordan was an 'elite' Nike brand.

In comparison, anyone could have held a conversation about Tyson. A completely different story.

                You're obviously clueless.

Again: how can you say he's not popular when his brand is popular?

If you're not ******, you'd know his brand is his name and he's the logo. And the fact that his brand (which is his name and he's the logo) is popular makes him popular by default. It's just common sense and your utterly dumb assertion is an oxymoron.

And you still don't know what an oxymoron is. Just Google it rather than use it incorrectly. Twice.

I struggle to believe you don't understand the difference between individual fame and a brand.

Do you think George Foreman is the housewives' favourite? Or do they just like the brand of grill?

We're could literally roll out a thousand brands bearing the name of someone that has everything every to do with the brand and not the individual.

Are you a big fan of Ingvar Kamprad, so you shop at IKEA? Buy Fords because you were a big fan of Henry?

I see some people on here struggle with basic concepts, but you can't tell me you that don't understand this one?

                      Is this a serious question?

People who don't even know boxing or sport in general still know who Mike Tyson is. Tyson is more than just a boxer, he's a brand an icon. There are milllions of people around the world who never heard of Fury or AJ.
