Hell yeah he was. No IBF or WBO then so he had that on lock for years. Looked at it there. It was 6 years, almost 7.Good points. I missed the part where TS asked for "reigns".
But you also have to consider that Hopkins was "undisputed" champ for over 3 years.
I'd have to research Monzon, but off the top of your head, do you know why he never became undisputed champ? I'm not sure.Comment

Not quite sure I can see Maravilla over GGG. Outside of Pavlik and PWills Sergios MW run consisted of guys like Macklin, Murray and Barker... much the same level as the guys some folk on here were calling bums when GGG fought 'em.
PWills was never really a full MW and never held a title above 147 and Pavlik had literally been in alcohol rehab only a coupla months prior.
The question lingers with Kelly Pavlik. And then lingers some more. Am I? Pavlik knew he liked beer. Beer with football. Beer with darts. Beer with his buddies
Love me some Maravilla, he's one of my favorite fighters of the last 15 years, and the fact that he was able to look as fantastic as he did undersized and in his late 30s against legit solid MWs is a testament to his skill and character, but it wasn't really that strong or long a reign.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 04-21-2020, 02:51 PM.Comment

I took your points into consideration about Sergio and G (PW not a MW), But then I thought about guys like Kell Brook and considered the fact that Martinez beat Macklin, Murray (disputed) before G coupled with the showdown against undefeated Chavez Jr in which he won all but 1 round. Oh yeah and Pavlik. Not quite sure I can see Maravilla over GGG. Sergio arguably lost to Murray, but G arguably lost to Jacobs and Derv.
You know my thoughts about G and his 160 resume so I won't even go there.
Trying not to seem to biased, I honestly marked them even.Last edited by Chollo Vista; 04-21-2020, 02:56 PM.Comment

Wouldn’t say Tito did jack at 160 but you’re right he was obviously a lot better at 147.Echoing what several others have said:
Monzon / Hagler
>
>
Hopkins
Golovkin
>
Maravilla
Monzon and Hagler is whichever you like, Golovkin and Hopkins - just taken by their MW careers - really ain't that far apart. Golovkins best wins were all close, Hopkin's were against Tito and Oscar who despite the name value never did jack at 160 and were elite at 147.Comment

No you gotta go with what you think, man, I loved me some Sergio but I just think the lack of longevity harmed him vis GGG. Course if you do feel Golovkin shouldn't have got the nod against Derevyanchenko and Jacobs - which ain't uncommon opinions by any means - it chnges the balance considerably. Basically leaves you with Golovkins best win being maybe Lemieux or Murray or possibly even Brook.I took your points into consideration about Sergio and G (PW not a MW), But then I thought about guys like Kell Brook and considered the fact that Martinez beat Macklin, Murray (disputed) before G coupled with the showdown against undefeated Chavez Jr in which he won all but 1 round. Nah, I'm going to give G the wins lol It's just if anyone asks, I'll always explain why I felt it didn't go the other way.No you gotta go with what you think, man, I loved me some Sergio but I just think the lack of longevity harmed him vis GGG. As far as Sergio, he was pushing 40 if I'm not mistaken with bad knees... So yeah, his time was up... That was right around the time G was fresh on the scene.
I always felt Sergio ducked G, but then again, Sergio was hurt a lotComment
