When we're talking about 2 ATGs, "levels" shouldn't come into the conversation.

Prime for prime, at their best weights - which I would say is WW - I'm edging towards Duran. It would be a hell of a fight!

      Of course.

We can argue who's better head to head or who ranks higher on an ATG list, but they are definitely comparable. You could pick one over the other, and you wouldn't be wrong either way.

They're my two all-time favorites besides Hagler.

Duran has one of, if not the best, single wins ever over SRL, but Pac has consistent top level wins, best and championships from Flyweight to light middle.

I think they're around the same all-time. Both top 10 or 15 but I would give Pac the edge.

        Thoughts on this?
        Pac far surpasses Duran now.

I know it's not a popular opinion but at some point you have to look at facts. Pac has beaten several legends and HOF'rs and Duran only really beat one.
Not to mention, Pacman had had over a dozen more title fights and ten more title fight wins in several more weights. It's a no brainer to me. Duran is over rated and over hyped badly based on beating SRL close.

Are you saying Duran was a better counter puncher and had better angels than Marquez? Don't go with the hype.

So if we're talking who's the better fighter at 147, it would undoubtedly be duran.
Lol but that’s already pac’s 7th weight class... That’s like saying pac also bulllies sugar ray at 126 pounds

The question is too ambiguous to answer. What does " on a par" mean? Comparing legacies? Comparing opponents? Head to head in the ring? Are they playing golf?

My clarification is required before I can address this question.

Duran will win head to head at 135-147.. which is already pac’s 6-7th weightclass?
but prime Pac will still be competitive no doubt. And would also beat an underprepared duran.

I think pac’s body of work for 20 plus years will give him the edge.. wins over barrera, marquez, morales, bradley, cotto, etc etc... are all top level opponents..add being the oldest welter to that list...

Two of the most brutal fighters in their primes... undeniably warriors.. would give anyone in the top 10 a run for their money pound for pound.

Both top 10 for me... giving pac a good edge..

duran is arguably the best lightweight ever, and that's a very stacked division.

you can look at duran as having 2 careers. he had 119 fights, a freakish amount given his level of opposition and period in time.

you have his "prime" where he was at his best weight and young, and then his later years, when he moved up in weight to make more money and really became a star.

his win over a prime ray leonard is one of the best wins of all time for any boxer. he held world championships all the way up to middleweight and carried his power. hell, he knocked iran barkley around the ring and onto his butt in the 11th round!

pacquiao is a very great fighter and his weight climbing and his style will get him on a lot of top 50 and 25 lists, but roberto duran is a shoe-in for a top 10 list and there's a large gap in class between the resumes of the two, frankly.

i would pick duran at any weight from 135 to 160 lbs as long as he trained hard. he was just a better fighter.
