Long term? A 3 fight deal. The first being a fight he had to fight anyway. Where he would have been paid 20 mil for Breazeale. If the Joshua fight didn't happen after then he wouldn't be tied to DAZN because they failed to get Joshua. Try and twist it as much as you want with hindsight excuses. That was a pure duck from Wilder at the time.

Because the exact fights were laid out and in order in the contract. If they didn't deliver Joshua the contract wouldn't be valid, they'd have no rights to Wilder. We don't know how the Golovkin contract is laid out. If it says 6 fights and 1 will be Canelo then Golovkin will be tied up until at least the 5th fight.Comment

DAZN is in deeper trouble than I originally thought if they're depending on one fight to carry their app. Say they fight a 3rd time. And then what happens after? Do they fight again? Do they keep fighting each other until their contract runs out?Comment

The thing is, DAZN knows they can't force Canelo to fight anyone. That is not legal. They signed the agreement through GBP. I don't see any legal way GBP can force Canelo to the trilogy here. Simply put, they just thought they would be able to convince Canelo to take this fight and it backfired. GBP were desperate and needed this to probably get their own deal so they went for it despite Canelo telling them not to do it.
Thing is it would be pretty ****** for GBP to do that as it would kill their relationship with the biggest name in boxing.
GBP seem to have done something to upset him though.Comment

Adjudicate the matter, potentially pay Oscar whatever the out is on his deal, and move on with the rest of his career.Comment

Gabe did a good job putting all this together. I mean most of the stuff we already knew, but I'm curious at how DAZN was able to promise GGG a fight with Canelo? I know GBP and DAZN had their own written agreement, but what was put in GGG's contract to guarantee him a shot with Canelo? Can you even do that?
Coppinger did mention that DAZN was upset that DLH doesn't even show up to his own shows and hardly promotes on social media, but looks like Canelo is also upset at DLH no showing on some of his past pressers. I remember DLH not even showing up for the Mayweather fight but he may have been in rehab during that time.
If it will be a 20-30M buyout as estimated in that article, then Canelo should probably go ahead and do that. With the deal he has, he would have paid GBP more than that anyways. Replace the Reynosa's with a legitimate manager and go solo. Canelo doesn't need a promoter anymore. Heck, get your own stable of fighters.
Gabe mentioned he's not sure why Diaz has been so involved. But Pugmire specifically mentioned that Canelo has directly dealing with Diaz instead of Gomez/DLH as of late. Well, now it looks like Canelo is even upset at the one guy he was still communicating with at GBP lol.
In a perfect world, Alvarez would go home and find his own Richard Schaefer; respected lawyer/advisor, who could talk great in both English and Spanish, whom the players can come to respect in working on Alvarez's behalf.Comment

De La Hoya: Canelo Will KO GGG In Trilogy
While it is Daniel Jacobs up next for his fighter, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya has confirmed that a fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin will happen, and that Alvarez won’t need the judges.
“There’s no doubt whatsoever,” De La Hoya said of a trilogy between the two middleweights.
“Canelo wants to fight the very best, and I can assure you that, third time around, Canelo will knock him out.”
ODLH: “I sent out a tweet that said we were going to talk to GGG and make the third fight happen and Jacobs’ promoter, Matchroom Boxing, called [Golden Boy president] Eric Gomez the next day and said you have a fight with Jacobs.
“My plan worked – now we have one of the best middleweights fights in recent years.”
