Tyson Fury had no intention of fighting Wilder next.

I’m a Fury fan but if he doesn’t fight Wilder next that is some bs. I thought he won the fight and definitely made sense for a rematch. But if he wasn’t going to he should have stepped aside so maybe we could have had Joshua-Wilder next
I was hoping for a new rematch then the winner face Joshua for undisputed late this year. After all this I have even less hope that will actually happen.Comment

Forget the Wilder fight. Warren would rather have small time fighters fighting Fury because he will make money that way. He can't risk it with Wilder because he knows he can get knocked out or draw again. How will he sell someone who list back to back?I don't know if I would say he had no intentions of fighting Wilder next. But obviously they kept this secret from the negotiations with Team Wilder. Doesn't mean the fight doesn't happen, just that Fury wanted to secure a big US deal for himself.
But more importantly, this makes the Joshua fight even harder to make. Forget the BT Sports vs Sky Sports angle, now you have that along with ESPN vs DAZN.
Intrigued in seeing how this all unfolds.Comment

Fury will likely be fighting the likes of Rivas/Pulev/Jennings/etc in the near future. And some of those fights are pretty decent to be fair, but he's not getting Wilder/Joshua in all likelihood. He is the mandatory though and it can go to purse bid so maybe his side wins it and forces Wilder to come to ESPN. I can't see Wilder vacating here as there are no other belts he can easily get his hands on. So if ESPN wins the purse bid I still see the fight happening. If SHO/Haymon win the purse bid? Then that's when things get a little murky.Comment

That to me is the most disappointing part of it all. Wilder's side clearly had their minds made up of fighting Fury next and they thought they would be able to reach a deal and completely ignored the Joshua fight. But if Warren tells them ahead of time they were negotiating with ESPN, then maybe things play out differently.I’m a Fury fan but if he doesn’t fight Wilder next that is some bs. Hey, what can you do though? Dog eat dog world. Maybe this was Warren's plan all along to essentially prevent the Joshua/Wilder showdown and reach the big deal with ESPN lol.Comment

Disagree, I think Frank Warren leveraged a massive deal for his fighter as a promoter should do! Showtime should've done the same. Should've locked up AJ and Fury Long term when they had them!
F#ck having Loyalty to these Wealthy Networks they need to PAY UP, if not then someone else WILL! Showtime seems to be working off handshakes, I don't think even Wilder is signed to Showtime exclusivelyLast edited by sicko; 02-18-2019, 12:14 PM.Comment

Why can't wilder fight on espn though? Where's the emphasis on wilder to make this fight? The entire mentality around Wilder fans is that the only way he can fight is if everything is in his favour, why?Comment

He can technically but it's going to be difficult with Arum and Haymon.
I'm sure they can work out a joint venture after LONG negotiations, maybe.
My point is for as long as Fury's known about this ESPN deal (a while) he's known Wilder isn't next.
So to take us all for mugs for weeks is annoying.
Maybe I'm just annoyed because I wanted to travel and go. I feel like I've been waiting months for no reason.Comment

Well he gave us a good hint in January...
These guys aren't that smart. They give themselves away sometimes.
As a boxing fan, I'm disappointed.
But I can't criticise Fury for having a TV deal on both sides of the pond. Joshua has it too. And Wilder's with Haymon which is restrictive enough in itself.
They could all get fights made. They've all had the opportunity. They've chosen to sign with networks and promoters.
No point assigning different degrees of blame when they're all guilty.Comment

That's the interview I was referring to in the OP that caught my attention.
They have known for months Wilder wasn't next they just strung us all along for what reason I don't know.Comment
