The fight actually makes no sense whatsoever. Breazeale has a guaranteed WBC title shot. Why would he risk that against such a dangerous fight? And why would Haymon consolidate two mandatories into one? He's moved these guys perfectly in the rankings and then he's just going to waste all of that work?

Ortiz v Whyte. The result can end some of the arguments around whether Ortiz could trouble AJ, imo.

Whyte said he'd do it for a shot at Wilder (Whyte is WBC #1) , Wilder said no ! Wilder texted Whyte to say he would make Whyte wait two years regardless of what he does to get a shot given he fought one manadatory in 3 years it and Brezeake is in the way it could be up to 6 before Wilder faces the WBC #1 .....

Ortiz looked ordinary at best in his European fights (when Whyte consistently called him out ortiz ducked Whyte) .. so most of teh UK casuals would see taking Ortiz as cherry picking.

Joe Joyce. It's not too early he's 32 and needs to take a risky fight at some point to skip a few levels. And I bet he'll beat Ortiz as well. Joe was levels above him as an amateur when Ortiz was in his prime, hes now 40 at the very youngest

                August 2, 2018:

That’s an admirable game plan for the 32-year-old Joyce, who’s just 5-0, including five knockouts, as a professional. The London native told BoxingScene.com that he’s willing to fight Ortiz “maybe not the next fight,” but soon thereafter.

“I’m ready for anything, so it’d be a good challenge to take on Ortiz,” Joyce said. “Hopefully we can make the fight.”

Right, so he didn't backtrack on anything. That's why I never heard about it.

In the context of what he's saying, "maybe not the next fight" is not backtracking.

But the great thing about context is that you can ignore it, if it suits your agenda to do that.

                    Very true.

The amateurs and pros are different, of course, because durability and stamina matter more in the pro game. And Joe Joyce has a ton of both.

No he didn't backtrack, he just said it wouldn't be his next fight. He's fighting Iago Kiladze (26-3, 18 KOs), Sunday, September 30th, on FS1.
