How does it sound when a promoter is simply trying to build his brand off someone else’s work? If he’s so good, build up American prospects into superstars. But we all know that’s not happening.

Despite the big talk, Hearn doesn’t have more money than the major players hear. But $1 billion does sound nice, doesn’t it?

Don't know why everyone is so sour about this. We see TMT fighters complaining about being put on the shelves and reported to be leaving en masse. We hear the same thing about some PBC fighters not being able to fight on a regular basis.

      So why the negativity?

I hear about the TMT fighters, but not so much the PBC guys. On the other hand, I don't want to pay for a damn app to watch boxing. If Hearn wanted to build fighters there are plenty of platforms around already who have slots, we don't need another way to pay for a sport. So I hope he fails. His failure keeps my money in my pocket.

I do like that the other platforms have to get more competitive because of him though. That's DAZN's only value

I think the thing that is being overlooked is that DAZN picked fight sports to enter the US market largely because the market for MMA was not saturated. Bellator could carry this channel and Hearn"s boxing is a bonus that is an amazing addition to the channel but does not need to destroy the bpxing competition entirely to be a success.

Put another way, I wish I could pay $10 for just the boxing on sky and bellator. Plus we have big cards of boxing all over the country. Good times in the UK and the US is getting the same.

I'm not anti DAZN or anything else has to do with the sport. It's about Hearn and how he operates, protection plus, cheap names v team Hearn. Unconscionable contracts, side deals, and laughable excuses. It's hard to see how he can compete in the American swamp.

Having promoters competing to sign talent is good for the boxers.

BUT...the boxers should offer their services on a fight-by-fight basis only. Instead of signing long term with anyone.

That way they can fight on DAZN one day and if Bob Arum offers more money the next time they can fight on ESPN+. Or maybe Showtime will bid more and they can fight there.

Stay free agents, offer your services to the highest bidder, and keep your options open.

I completely agree. Matchroom Boxing is part of a bigger package.

In Canada, they've even grabbed rights to the NFL. The big networks still televise regulat matches and telecoms still offer Sunday Ticket, but DAZN is allowed to offer it as well. I'd be interested to see if they try something similar stateside.

That only works for boxers if their stock rises. If their stock falls, they're screwed.

There's a reason professional athletes enjoy the security of long-term contracts over one-year franchise tags.

What's your problem with protection and Hearn. Top Rank has been protecting his fighters for ages like every other good business person. Try not to protect your kids or interest and have a Python swallow them whole.
