And after he fought somebody else first, he refused to fight his mando, so he was stripped. He had 90 days to face his mando per the terms of his exception. He didn't live up to that.
Only reason GGG was stripped without a purse bid is because he told the IBF he wasn't going to take the fight, so there was no reason for a purse bid.

It was a much more complicated situation than that, as I'm sure you know, due to the original date for GGG's rematch with Canelo being cancelled.

GGG wanted to fight Derevyenchenko after a rescheduled fight with Canelo.

The IBF said "no" and gave him 90 days to fight his mando. When Loeffler told them he intended to carry on negotiating with Canelo instead of moving on to Deryevenchenko, the IBF stripped GGG immediately.

They did not wait for the deadline to expire or order a purse bid. There was no legal requirement for them to do that and there would have been no legal requirement for the WBA to order a purse bid for AJ/Povetkin if Hearn hadn't complied with their order to confirm the date for the fight within 24 hours.

All the terms for AJ/Povetkin - purse split, money, venue, date - had already been agreed by both sides, in the event of AJ/Wilder not being signed.

The only question was whether Hearn would confirm that the fight was going to happen next, on the agreed date.

The four corners of the contract are what's binding. Hearn said he was trying to make the fight next, but promised nothing. Said to give him a few days for a definite date. Few days went by and he said April. Had Wilder been dumb enough to sign without any assurances the fight was next, that's his problem.

It's not an opinion that AJ couldn't be stripped unless they held a purse bid and he refused to go through with the fight. It's not an opinion that a week later the Povetkin fight hadn't been signed yet and AJ wasn't stripped, proving Hearn was lying that AJ would be stripped if he didn't sign to fight Povetkin within 24 hours.




What your missing is that the Wilder/Fury contract stipulates that the fight will take place in November or December with no interim fights. Which is the same offer Wilder made AJ in the term sheet for the 50 million deal. What months the fight could be in, and that there couldn't be any interim fights.

The contract Hearn sent Wilder didn't list any months at all, and didn't contain any language preventing AJ from taking interim fights. That's the difference.

Correct. GGG did not refuse outright to fight his mando ... he asked for it to be delayed till after the rematch with Canelo, which is exactly what I told you.

He was stripped - without any purse bid being called - for refusing to comply with the IBF ruling on that request.

Likewise, AJ would have been stripped - without any purse bid being called - if he had refused to comply with the WBA ruling on his request for more delays in finalising his mando with Povetkin.
