Another way to look at it is this,; if he suffered a loss right now, would he still look great? The answer is no. He'd be largely dismissed because he hasn't built a strong resume. When your legacy is hinging on one loss, you haven't built a strong legacy yet.
Think you missed the point of this article. It's not about how great and awesome and ATG he is.

The author is simply stating that right now is the most Golovkin will ever be appreciated in his career by most casual fans, and he's right. Just like he says, a win over Canelo would just prove what the vast majority thought. "but in the general public’s eyes the best case scenario is a confirmation of what they already thought: GGG is better than Canelo."

As for the new blood in the division, real boxing fans know that they're dangerous, however none of them have a resume and are all 100% unproven. If he beats Charlo, Derevyanchenko and Murata by 1st round KOs, nobody will remember who these guys were in 3 years.
"Wins over the remaining crop of contenders—Jermall Charlo, Billy Joe Saunders and Sergiy Derevyanchenko—would be incredibly impressive to the readers of this website, but probably not to the general public"

Overall Erdman is 100% correct in his assessment of the casual fan. However most people here are not casual fans and do not give a **** what they think. I want to see these fights. Whether or not most fools will forget them in 3 years or not means nothing to me.

I think you're apologizing for the article, which itself is apologizing for Golovkin.
It's such a prime moment for the man to build a legacy, I'm really not hearing any of this, "but the casual fan". Casuals know when the man is fighting garbage, which is why HBO touched on that subject repeatedly this weekend.

But I thought GGG couldn't gather 5 people to watch him box.

Good article, it just got its approval from the crying GGG hate brigade.

When there are so many people who spend so much time of their lives to just hate on a certain fighter you know that this one is very special and has indeed become great.

                "everyone from 154 to 168"

GGG needs to beat at least one good name at SMW

Just a question, are you a grown man or still a kid? I cant really grasp that a grown man would spend so much time of his life hating no a fighter that will never ever recognize you.
