You can't have it both ways. Either Murata is the champ or not. If he isn't neither was Golovkin. You can't flip flop stance to suit your love for Golovkin.

Amusingly, yes. That is one of the possible conclusions you can draw from the whole sad affair, which just goes to show the level of BS the WBA created here.

A touch of common sense is probably required here though. People trying to stick absolutely to one title or the other being the 'real' title are trying to reconcile an impossible situation because the WBA treats both as real and it's their nomenclature and rules we're dealing with. To favour one over the other really has no logical justification, yet for the (fairly pointless IMO) purpose of counting title defenses we somehow need there to be just one.

The answer? Whatever you want it to be, man. I favour the 14 defenses argument personally, but honestly? Take your pick. The history books will record what they record. The question we probably need to ask ourselves is 'what gives a title legitimacy?'

EDIT: And just for the record one could make the case that if one doesn't consider WBA rules change that elevated Sturm to super champ legitimate, Golovkin himself should only have been elevated to that status when he unified with Lemieux in Oct 15, not that it would matter because he would have been the only champ up til that time.

You can’t even admit you are wrong when you evaluate both of their opponents during their 20 title defenses. I put the lists up for morons like YOU. If you look at both of there opponents objectively, you will see that GGG fought better opposition during his 20 title defenses. But you can’t because you are clueless and a phony boxing fan. And Nobody cares about your theory about whether or not GGG was a “genuine WBA champ” he is was and is the champ on record. You should see the comment responses to my thread by kafkod at 5:14 pm today. He basically sees both of their opponents the same way most people with common sense would instead of making up theories to justify your argument, genius!

Who in GGG's list of 20 opponents would you say were the best opposition? I personally consider John David Jackson a better opponent for Hopkins than most of GGG's opponents were for him. I'm a GGG fan but certainly think that list of 20 Hopkins opponents is a better one than the GGG list of 20.
